7 people fell off the Top 50 today. Exystence, knick_ch, supercuts, geno_16, dandyandy1130, cloudff72000 and SquallidSnake did not have Snake going out this round. I don't know what the big deal is. All the calling out Nintendrones is
unnecessary. It's not like this was a coordinated effort to make Link
lose. It was a surprise. A bunch of people (including me) thought that
the plan was to still make Jay Solano look absolutely pathetic. You

I think if this match had never been close, that Jay would be receiving less votes... ...wait, let me say that in a way that doesn't sound so stupid and obvious... ...if this match had been on the main page and Link was obviously blowing Jay out of the water like nobody's business, then Jay wouldn't be getting any votes that would be in hopes of an upset or close match. As is though, since Jay has a very legit shot, people are voting for the joke -- think Ansem/CATS, but a pure-board creation against so much stronger of an opponent in the only possible way he has even a chance to win. On the bright side, maybe this will encourage CJay to let Solano be in next year (in place of CATS, hopefully), and we can see the true "power" of Jay then! --- Diddy did it. Diddy did it. DAMMIT! Hey, I like tradition too...but CATS doesn't look like he'll ever live
up to his performance in the VC and Jay would have made for a better
joke character than CATS this year given the crazy nomination drive we
had. Add to it the AYB fad is SOOO dead (sadly), and the tradition CATS

I'll take a Classic joke character with tradition over a joke character
that really doesn't have anything going for him besides the whole "no
one knows me because I'm from an N-Gage game" thing. *shrugs* I'll nominate CATS for every contest he's elligable for. This was way back when the topic refused to believe that voters would
vote for "a ****ing horse". I've been saying since the beginning that
Epona could have a bit of strength in a contest setting. Everyone who's
played Ocarina of Time knows who she is... and unlike Master Hand,
Epona actually has fans.
Somewhat at least. Call her a concentrated Pac-Man. Give her an
opponent that Zelda fans don't care about in the slightest and Epona

So what are we going to do with Jay now that he won over Link? Retire
him and make him the only character who hasn't lost in a poll, or
nominate him for a rematch on the front page? Personally I rather see Jay being the ultimate champ, especially since the Noble Nine is now broken (Thanks Link!) --- Rufus Shinra 18 had Luigi over Sonic and he still PWND me in the guru contest. |

So, is Mega Man constant, or not? Let's look at Mega Man's division, using Mega Man 2K5: Sora - 35.47% Tingle - 17.30% Gordon Freeman - 25.59% Phoenix Wright - 21.39% Kratos - 27.92% Ryu - 32.55% Mega Man - 38.79% Axel - 23.37% (Solid Snake - 43.42%) Now, let's arbitrarily just use Ryu 2K5 as the standard: Sora - 32.67% Tingle - 15.93% Gordon Freeman - 23.57% Phoenix - 19.70% Kratos - 25.71% Ryu - 29.98% Mega Man - 35.73% Axel - 21.52% (Solid Snake - 39.99%) Let's look at the first set: Ryu and Kratos look too strong...Ryu barely outdid Alucard on Kratos (yes, Kratos boosted, but that much?), yet Alucard was destroyed by Auron and was beaten by Sora the previous year...in fact, Kratos is expected to beat Alucard with 55.35% using raw x-stats. I could see Kratos winning there, but... not by that much. You can make a case for Freeman-linearity, but Gordon & Phoenix being lower doesn't hurt. Basically, there are five advantages to this I can see: 1)Mega Man has been consistant throughout many contests, and there's no apparent reason he'd drop, besides just his aging finally getting to him some random year. 2)Ryu's kinda on his 2K4 level (though still a bit higher than his highest past value). 3)Mega Man's placement, assuming Sonic/Snake wasn't a fluke, is actually pretty fitting... Luigi vs. Mega Man is predicted almost exactly the same this year as last year. 4)Using 5 characters isn't a whole lot of data to say for sure if Sonic/Snake was/wasn't a fluke. 5)Assuming both MM/Snake and Sonic/Snake are accurate is the null hypothesis. Arguments 1 and 2 are weak, but 3,4, and 5 are pretty strong, I say. Sora's looked weak against fodder in past years, and this year may be no exception. Plus, Riku did loads better in 2K6 than in 2K5, and judging -purely- by that, I could see Sora boosting to 35% on BL with his relatively superior role in KH2 (Riku's part in KH1 was much more interesting than in KH2). I figure Ryu and Kratos could be that strong, though you could blame their high x-stat values partly on the Ryu/Mega Man picture mis-match if you really wanted. Looking on the other perspective again, Mega Man being constant means that Snake has boosted an insane amount, meaning either Samus has boosted through the roof somewhere between 2K4 and 2K6 (Riiiiiiight), or Samus/Solid Snake was a fluke (which, by itself, actually makes more sense than a Sonic/Snake anomaly). Plus, Zero totally bombed, which adds a little more credibility to a Mega Man drop. I'd say more, but I've said enough already. Okay, I have to hurry and add that using (roughly) Ryu 2K5 as a measuring stick, and assuming Snake/Squall was the fluke rather than Snake/Yoshi...er, that makes things fit well (after adjusting Sonic and his victims, of course). One last thing...you're pretty much obligated to say that either Solid Snake vs. Sonic the Hedgehog or Samus Aran vs. Solid Snake was an anomaly. There's no escaping one of those!
