Hm. If you add the votes for Mario and Samus (the vast majority of them), a little under half of Snake's, and then only about 400 or so from Sephiroth, Link ends up beating Cloud by a little more than he did last year.

That may be somewhat faulty, but it's hard to think of a situation where Link is going to lose. I think it ended up being 53,000 for Cloud and 59,000 for Link. That only adds up to 112,000 votes, but we haven't had every vot cast here. It'll probably end up with a slightly wider gap and more votes to make it come out to a Link/Cloud vote total esque match.

But I am rather confused on why people were saying that Cloud had some sort of good chance here earlier. Link is still losing votes here just like Cloud would be from Sephiroth. Even with that, he's still pulling in numbers that are extremely similar to last year -- he has a 5,000 vote lead right now. I think Link also gets more of the "on the edge" votes as we get closer to Twilight Princess coming out.

I never viewed his chances are particularly good this year and my mind definitely isn't changing after Link's dominant performance here.

On another note, I'll be interested in seeing how the percentages change from day to day. It's not too often you get to see the same characters (mostly Link and Cloud) in the same poll for successive days.

Cloud is going to win.

Add up all the Nintendo votes total. 56,520.

All the FF7 votes total. 47,666.

People have always claimed that Snake is SFF with Final Fantasy chars. But in stead of just making it a full split, we'll make it 75 - 25.

So, 75% of 16,000 is 12,000. 25% of 16,000 is 4,000.

56,520 + 4,000 = 60,520.

47,666 + 12,000 = 59,666.

Looks like it should be close, but I'm thinking Cloud will end up with the vote because it's still only 6:15 and there are a lot more votes coming in.

Anyone else think the vote totals might suffer a bit on the next day? When Ryu H Vs. Jill was reran, it got low totals because people thought they had voted in that poll already. Do you think people will notice the difference enough to vote? >_>

I wonder if CJayC will rearrange the poll options as well. Seems likely.

man, I can't wait to see TRE's writeup for this match. instead of having one wrong option, we've got five. add to it that a lot of the casual Samus pickers would naturally assume she'd outlast the guy she just beat and we could see some serious shakeup.

Going back to the discussion on how well non-video game characters would fare in a contest, this poll may be pretty telling:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=866

Which is your favorite super-franchise?
Final Fantasy 63.89% 19610
Star Wars 24.8% 7611
I can't stand either 11.31% 3472
TOTAL VOTES 30693

I believe this was taken right around the time Episode 2 came out, by the way. It is 2002 data, but it seems fairly good evidence that Clinkeroth at least would beat Darth Vader.

Yeah, if I get the BR perfect, I might actually win a consolation prize. I'm already in the top 250. And Cloud vs Link will probably be relatively split.

Most of the "high vote totals favor X" statements are pretty baseless, but this one is even more out there than most. Why would people visiting a gaming site in 2006 be more likely to prefer movie characters than people who visited a gaming site 2002?

Yeah, I suppose so.

I wish we would have the prediction percentages to see who predicted whom to go out tomorrow instead of just the female winner.

Speaking of which, do you expect Female Winner to have over 50% prediction percentage here?

I expect Female winner to come close... I mean, 41% had Samus getting to the finals but only 12% had her escaping. To me, that indicates a lack of faith in the strength of the female winner against males.

Maybe simply by virtue of the theory that if Samus can beat the male winner, she can outlast him in a 6-way poll.

Although, on the other hand, the people at top now are people who knew enough about the contest to know Samus would win, so they probably know enough to know she was going out first.
