Also, theoretically Samus being prone to SFF would technically mean
that Mario is already taking most of her votes already, and that when
she's eliminated, he won't especially get much of her leftover 8%? I
think Mario going out at 5th place looks pretty likely at this point. Which means that my Battle Royale will probably be 100% correct. Too bad I botched the actual contest X_X --- ertyu and VeghEsther are truly proof that there is much about this world we still do not understand. |

Hmmm...Link and Cloud have over 50% of the votes by themselves. I
didn't think Sephiroth would be THIS far behind, personally. I guess
he's not as much of a "favorite" as previously thought. Snake being in
4th is nice, too. This first day is rather boring because it was
expected, but Snake and Mario (maybe even Sephiroth, too!) should be
fighting it out tomorrow, so it should get more interesting. The one thing I don't really like about it is that the format itself is against the idea of big comebacks and stuff once you get settled in. Plus, it's hard to really tell who's winning updates and by how much right off hand. At 10:45, this match has 63519 votes. Tifa/Samus had 58466. By the way, if Cloud can beat out Link in any one poll before the
finals, I'll hold out hope that he can beat him. If not, I'll just say

I figure the reason mario's doing so badly is that he gets votes in
regular contest polls almost solely because of his iconic status...but
he's not the favorite for very many people. And, Sephiroth...seeing him in the Battle Royale makes me wonder how he's so close to Cloud in the first place. Finally it's done my adjusted 2006 rankings. There were 4 adjustments... 1) Tidus' value was what he got against Kirby last year. 2) Yoshi's 4-pack was done by keeping 2k5 Crono/Dante constant (through Vincent). 3) Tifa's Division was done keeping her and Vincent the same from last year (47.18%) and giving her a small boost (48% against Vincent). Why? Because I think she's gotten more benefit from KH2 than Vincent did in DoC. 4) Zelda's half was done by keeping the same Ryu/KOS-MOS relation as it was in 2k4. This is looking really good for Cloud... only 4% behind Link, and Seph
& Snake combined have 10% more than Samus & Mario. Sure you
can't say it'll all go to Cloud, but there's a higher chance it does,
as we've seen MGS/FF overlap before, and obviously Seph would almost
all go to Cloud. I hope it happens, as much as I don't believe in KHF,

**Mushroom Division** #1 Mario #5 Sub-Zero #6 Minda (Zelda:TP) #2 Kratos (God of War) Mario over Kratos in the finals. Good division for the most part, although Mewtwo's totally wasted. GoW 2 means that Kratos will be quite a beast. Midna vs. Ashe and Tidus vs. Subby are great matches though. **Hearts Division** #1 Sora #4 Yoshi #3 Shadow the Hedgehog #2 Balthier (FF12) Sora > Balthier. Better than what we saw from Sora's division last year, but I can't see anyone really challenging Sora, unless Balthier can SFF him for a victory. With the new Sonics, Shadow might challenge Balthier, and Knuckles might even beat Yoshi...if not for SMG, which could even be enough for Yoshi to beat Sora...maybe. **Flood Division** #1 Master Chief #5 Magus #3 Vincent #2 Mega Man Vincent > Magus Sothe? Sothe? Seriously, WTF? Other than that, this is a pretty good division. Ryu vs. Magus is a great match, as is Vincent vs. Mega Mn. **Chaos Division** #1 Sonic #4 The Prince (of Persia) #3 Bowser #2 Ganondorf Ganon > Sonic Eh, I don't know if Kratos Aurion's going to be coming back. PoP vs. Akuma might be good, but I doubt it, especially as PoP will likely get his next game by then. Bowser is wasted, as unless his role in SMG is absolutely amazing post-TP Ganon will crush him. Ganon vs. Sonic could be good, but Sonic's next gen stuff might be enough to prevent that upset. Putting that fourpack in Crono's division might work better. **Patriot Division** #1 Solid Snake #4 Serge #3 Auron #2 Luigi Snake > Auron Pretty crappy division overall. Auron vs. Luigi is the only match that even stands a chance of being good (well, I guess you could make an argument for Jill vs. Serge), and again, that depends on SMG. **Luminare Division** #1 Crono #5 Ken Masters #3 Leon Kennedy #2 Riku Jimmy Hopkins vs. Ken Masters? WTF is that? Leon vs. Zero and Leon/Zero vs. Riku are pretty cool though, so I suppose this division isn't that bad. **Devil Division** #1 Dante #4 Tifa #3 Zelda #2 Squall Zelda > Tifa A great division for 2k6. Not so much for 2k7. Tifa crushes Dante and Zelda crushes everyone, and none of the first round matches are good. Also, Roxas isn't suddenly going to replace Axel in 2k7...someone like Vaan is more likely. **Zebes Division** #1 Samus #4 Seifer #3 Kirby #7 Yuna Samus > Kirby Seifer vs. Alucard is great. But why on earth did you put Kirby against Fox and Yuna against Raiden? Yuna vs. Kirby and Fox vs. Raiden would both be great, but not so much the matches you have (unless MGS4 is out by then, but I doubt that). Mario > Sora, Ganon > Vincent, Snake > Crono, Samus > Zelda Mario > Ganon Samus > Snake Mario > Samus The end is decent, but I'm much rather see Samus vs. Crono than a Samus vs. Zelda rematch. I've stated repeatedly that I think Snake overperformed on Sonic, and I
stand by that. Sonic doesn't have to beat MM by much for Vincent >

Also, this is pretty close to what I expected (which is great
because I have Cloud winning this thing). Cloud's actually been doing a
bit better than what I thought he would, which I like a lot. Nice to
see Samus getting torn apart, not so nice to see Mario around that

Yeah, Cloud doesn't need to beat Link before the finals, Cloud and
Sephy just need to garner well over 50% down that final stretch, with

Ehh, I'd need to see Cloud beat Link in a poll at least once before I felt confident about it. If he can beat Link in a poll without Sephiroth (say Cloud/Link/Snake), I'd feel really good about his chances. If he ended up closer to Link tomorrow, I'd be really confused. Samus
going out should only help the remaining Nintendo brethren. At this point, it looks like the Sony triumverate is going to finish above 53% over the Nintendo trifecta, which looks good for Cloud's chances. However, I'd expect Snake's fanbase to be more likely to defect to Link/Mario's crowd after he's gone than I'd expect Samus' to defect to Cloud/Sephiroth's. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

I know that Mario surviving tomorrow is in question, but does anybody
question that Samus being eliminated helps Mario more than any other
character? If Mario does get that much of an advantage (which would
guarantee at least 1.65% more than today), he's in good contention to
survive another day...though still the underdog. There's a 2.4% gap between Mario and Solid Snake right now...Mario getting more than 20% of Samus's votes would mean the gap becomes 0.75% (or smaller), and then it changes from there depending on how much more Mario gets over 1/5 of Samus's votes and how many votes Solid gets to take from Samus as well...and considering how we've seen that Samus and Mario definitely share a fanbase (Mario/Samus, SMB3/Metroid, probably more) AND they're more similar than Mario/Link or Samus/Link, I wouldn't put it outside of Mario's chances to snag lots of Samus's votes tomorrow. Of course, for Mario to win, this assumes that Mario gets just over 34% of Samus's votes today (currently) AND matches Solid's gains vote-for-vote, so he should still be the underdog with it...but it's plenty reasonable, too, not to mention that Link/Mario/Samus most likely still have the afterschool vote to look forward to today, so that should lighten the load some. --- Damn, most of my dates involve mocking and/or beating up people like you and your bride-to-be, so I really have no advice --Horatio |

I'd bet on Mario outlasting Snake tomorrow actually, except I think
Link is going to benefit significantly more from Samus' absence than he
will. There's already a decent margin between the two...I'm still

I think Mario barely edges out Solid tomorrow -- it's hard for me to
think Mario wouldn't at LEAST get 2% of Samus's votes, and the
after-school vote should favor Samus and Mario both today to make for
both a smaller gap between Mario/Solid and more votes that Mario is
more likely to take than Solid. Link will definitely benefit from Samus dropping, too, though I still don't think it'll be as much as Mario. The other three shouldn't get TOO many of them, I figure -- the three of them together would be doing great to get 45% of Samus's votes. --- Damn, most of my dates involve mocking and/or beating up people like you and your bride-to-be, so I really have no advice --Horatio |

Those three... get 45% from Samus? No way, not even close. That'd be
doing great if they could take a quarter of those votes, and my mind
would boggle if they took anything more than a third. I suspect half will go to Link, a third will go to Mario and the remainder will be split among the other three w/ Snake likely doing the best of them. --- If this post was overly verbose, that means I tried very hard to not call you an idiot. He's been pretty much dropping in percentage since then. Sephiroth seems to be the exact opposite. He hasn't had an hour where he HASN'T gained since then. Samus...just drops. Solid Snake appears to be the most consistent throughout, though that's because he gained a lot through the night and he's starting to lose it. 3) Tifa's Division was done keeping her and Vincent the same from
last year (47.18%) and giving her a small boost (48% against Vincent).
Why? Because I think she's gotten more benefit from KH2 than Vincent

Crono drops a tad, Sonic increases a tad, MM increases ever so slightly, and Snake boosts like crazy. Snake that high feels so wrong, but 55ing Sonic and MM is no joke, I feel like if I drop him any lower, it messes up things. I could potentially buy an overperformance on Sonic, since it makes the most sense, but I didn’t factor it into my stats, it’ll just be in the back of my head for the next contest (granted with Wii/PS3 out, even if we had perfect stats this year, there’s gonna be a huge chance of change next year). I set Zelda 2K6 = Zelda 2K5, Tifa 2K6 = Zelda 2K5, and used Dante 2K5 = Dante 2K6 to extrapolate Yoshi (even though I think Dante boosted). I also just assumed Squall/Snake went legit, and adjusted Tidus through 2K6 Kirby. Terra 2K6 = Terra 2K5, and Joanna 2K6 = Joanna 2K5. If it wasn’t obvious, I kept the BR crew at their numbers from last year. Not taken into account: Gordon’s probable non-linearity, which more than likely overrated both himself and PW in the stats, possible Ryu non-linearity as well. --- Hooray Beer, Hooray Proxies! |

Awesome stuff. This looks pretty good for my Royale prediction (Mario
will probably edge out Snake tomorrow with Samus' votes), though I have
to say, Cloud is looking quite a lot more impressive than Link for me
right now. I wouldn't mind Cloud > Link though, even if it is

For the male side, Patriot is done by using Squall 2k5 for Snake's fourpack and Dante 2k5 for Yoshi's. The Destiny Division is just done by using MM's percentage on the Snake that I adjusted from Patriot. Blast and Time divisions are combined and adjusted through a constant Luigi. Questions? Comments? looks like you did about the same thing I did, except I took Samus
through Squall. I didn't like how high it put her division but I didn't
want to end up with a Samus that could potentially be under Snake.

| I can't take Samus through Squall, it really makes
her division too high for my tastes (remember, I'm using a constant
Rikku and NOT adjusting her for Dream Division overratedness already).
It's not so bad, really, in my stats Samus scores a little over 52% on
Snake, she got a little over 53%, so if you believe that she sapped
