Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

I'm scared as hell that this won't be the MM we see next year though...Sonic had tons of people gunning for him in 2004, Snake had even more in 2005, seeing MM perform like this seems really odd.

Then again, we'll literally be in a new generation of consoles by the next contest. That could really hurt MM if he continues to slide into obscurity.

HM will hold on to the Ganon love for as long as it takes him to switch gears randomly!

We can only hope for a massive Samus dropoff this year too, so that MM can still beat her. I wouldn't be able to take him over her now if she remained constant! ;_;

And I'd point you toward Mega Man/Zelda for enough reasoning to believe that Mega Man is not SFFing Ganon or Link/Mega Man. Or any other case except Yoshi where Mega Man hasn't SFFed a Nintendo character.

There's a chance that MM/Zelda had a touch of SFF, y'know. Though that makes Lara look way too strong in 2k3...but she looks too strong anyway there...

...eh, Zelda 2k3 was just weird.

That was after I saw her performance against Carmen Sandiego this year (What a match to base it off !!). I still expect her to outperform him by quite a bit, if only because she's capable of not only resisting SFF, but getting some favor among the Nintendo fanbase herself, or at least I think so.

But I still have no clue where people get the dumb idea that Mega Man would SFF freaking Nintendo characters. He's done it exactly once and wasn't even capable of SFFing someone from his own fanbase (Zero). Doing it to Yoshi and no one else doesn't get him the title. I would sooner expect all things Zelda to hold up against <

"Let's face it: the princess Zelda has always been a symbol of sexual desire."
transience | Posted 11/8/2006 10:31:59 PM | message detail
yeah, I've actually considered the possibility there. I'd think MM/Zelda was similar to Samus/Ganon - maybe 1% on BL, but not much more.

MM may be sucking this year, but I wouldn't take Zelda to turn that sucker around.

I really doubt it. She gained about 3% between 2003 and 2005, which was filled with that good old Nintend Boost. I wouldn't really expect any SFF in that match.

To be fair, there are a lot of SFF matches I've struggled with lately after seeing the results of this contest.

For instance -- how do you expect Aeris/Sora to play out today?

MyWorldIsZelda | Posted 11/8/2006 10:33:16 PM | message detail
Perhaps not this year, but she'd be plenty capable of doing it next year. Four years later and after Twilight Princess? That's a match she can win!

---
"Let's face it: the princess Zelda has always been a symbol of sexual desire."
transience | Posted 11/8/2006 10:34:32 PM | message detail
I still take Aeris. while characters may get stronger or weaker, I can't see the same fanbase changing all that much. and even if it did, it'd need to do it significantly - more than we've ever seen in any match - for Sora to pull that out.
---
xyzzy
transience | Posted 11/8/2006 10:35:19 PM | message detail
man, Aeris just confuses the hell out of me. change Sora/Aeris to Sora/Yuna, since those two are equal this year. does anyone take Yuna?
---

MyWorldIsZelda | Posted 11/8/2006 10:36:03 PM | message detail
Aeris/Yuna being equal is pretty crazy stuff.

---
"Let's face it: the princess Zelda has always been a symbol of sexual desire."
Haste_2 | Posted 11/8/2006 10:37:23 PM | message detail
Sora/Aeris might be a 50/50 match now... Sora would probably beat Aeris 55/45 without SFF.

Oh, and even though Snake has won every 5-minute update against Mega Man so far, Snake did the same against Bowser for the first 3 hours...Snake/Bowser started in the middle of the night, but hey.

What would you expect the percentages to be like, though? 60-40? 55-45?

And if Aeris dropped off any more, Sora could definitely do it with, say, KH3.

And see, my gut instinct is to take Sora over Yuna. But not over Aeris. Damn past results...

Though this match is proving without a shadow of a doubt that past results are not a be-all end all of ANYTHING, especially if they're outdated. Let's not forget Snake is doing this to the character that broke 57% on his ass two years ago.

Yeah, this match definitely isn't over. It certainly looks good for Snake (and I've of the opinion that Bowser's day vote is a lil' underrated by people here), but you don't need much of a day vote to tear into Solid Snake. The votes are impressive, but I'll feel a lot safer if he can surpass his pace against Bowser as the true night vote begins.

That's how I feel on that. It's a bit different if the match took place one year before and was 57%, but when it takes place over two years ago when the site was definitely rather different than now, it just seems pretty silly to look at that and ignore a rematch between two characters a couple of years later.

Like Samus/Sonic, that match definitely has a chance to go Sonic's way if Samus dropped and Sonic boosted a bit, or at the very least be very close despite Sonic getting rocked in 2004. Same deal with Mega Man/Zelda.

We aren't even two hours in, and snake already has a lead of over 1300. I don't see how megaman could possibly turn this around, especially given that we haven't even hit snakes peak time quite yet. As much as his day vote sucks, it won't even be much of a factor until the after-school vote, and by then it's going to be far, far too late.

Snake is doing so well right now, that I could see it being more then megaman just sucking. Looking at what he did to yoshi, his result against squall might have been legit. We could be dealing with a snake far stronger then we've ever seen. Everything he's done this contest seem to point towards that being the case.

I see the two being about even with one having a slight edge over the other personally. The fact that Dante seemed slightly stronger then last year after facing ryu, who we've seen through enough years to have a good read on, and still lost to yoshi looks really good on the green bracket ruining bastard (although he's still awesome >_>).

but I think we should calm down a bit before even contemplating those things. Snake may be getting the most impressive win of his career here, but Mega Man has just looked ass this year. I don't wanna go too nuts bandwagoning Snake. right now I like him being at 38, 38.5% on BL - enough to beat MM or maybe Sonic, but not quite at Crono's level. (though those two are close enough that Snake could win regardless.)

I'm not trying to bandwagon anything, or even say he'll win next round, I just think it's a very real possibility that he's much stronger then we've ever seen him before, and one we shouldn't ignore.
