Sora brought down MM from a little over 58% to a
little over 54% by the end of the match, so that's around a 4% swing
there. Comparitively, he brought Snake down from a bit under 70% to a
little over 65%, so a little under a 5% swing there. ...you know, that really doesn't look good for Mega Man. WTF happened? --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

Snake's not bad with the NPH, either - he actually had a higher percent
during that time against Yoshi then he finished with, which I find
extremely surprising. And he did better during the NPH against Squall
than any other time, which makes a little more sense because that
shouldn't favour Squall. But, still, doing better there than in the
true night vote says something. There's no question that Mega Man is pretty good with it, too, but in his matches he seemed to flare up with the really early vote then start dropping before the NPH is actually over. Which means it wouldn't really surprise me if Snake took a lead after a half hour or so and it was still close at the end. And Snake would lose the day vote to a cardboard box. He's not winning it against Mega Man, but he will kill the Blue Bomber once the night vote sets in properly. --- Mustache...and green... http://www.rit.edu/~zmb0386/Top100.pdf |

Actually, by the time the weekend day vote started, Mega Man was
already down to 57%, and that's assuming the weekend day vote starts at
around 7 AM GameFAQs time, which is being very generous. At his lowest,
Mega Man was at 54.25%. That's only a 2.75% cut. --- That... was her final mission. And like a true soldier, she saw it through to the end. ZSB [aX] |

* Snopes.com, High Times magazine, The Marijuana-Logues, and The
Straight Dope claim that in the early 1970s, a group of teenagers at
San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, used to meet every
day after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke cannabis at the Louis Pasteur
statue. One piece of evidence supporting an origin of the term from the
time 4:20 is the fact that the number is always said "four twenty".

Snake's not bad with the NPH, either - he actually had a higher
percent during that time against Yoshi then he finished with, which I
find extremely surprising. Just because people have deemed the unique demographic of voters that vote in the first 45 minutes doesn't mean they always favour nintendo, regardless of people naming it the nintendo power hour for some reason. Nintendo does well in it, but it isn't always the peak of the match for ninty characters. I know you weren't arguing that by the way; I'm just ranting incoerently as usual. >_> --- Currently listening to: A Twist in the Myth, Amputechture, Deus Ex Machinae, Black Wings of Destiny, Let Mortal Heroes Sing your Fame, and others. |

With the SSBB hype and FF influx, i think Snake may do well in the day. I can at least see the reasoning behind the ssbb trailer helping snake argument, even if I disagree with it, but wtf does an influx of ff voters (an unproven influx at that) have to do with snake? --- Currently listening to: A Twist in the Myth, Amputechture, Deus Ex Machinae, Black Wings of Destiny, Let Mortal Heroes Sing your Fame, and others. |

I believe Snake/Sora was on a schoolday, and it
looks like that Sora brought down Snake by about the same percentage
during the actual day vote. So let's consider Mega Man and Snake about
equals with it. --- That... was her final mission. And like a true soldier, she saw it through to the end. ZSB [aX] |

On that note, I think matches have WAY more overlap between the fanbases than people think. Most gamers on the internet (in my experience anyway) play a hell of a lot of games. It really wouldn't take much to change a few minds and cause wild swings in strengths and such. I'm actually surprised our stats are as constant as they are. I know I haven't posted much, but can I get a serious THANK YOU for that post Ulti. I've been saying this for the longest. This topic has gotten so stuck up on stats and numbers reigning supreme and thinking that voters are robots. There's nothing special about us. Most people here are fans of multiple types of games. I don't see why people think the average voter is different from us. I agree, there is overlap between PLENTY of characters. I'd also throw in that people pay more attention to this contest than people give credit for. Thinking about Snake/Mega Man... Snake doesn't HAVE to be stronger this year. If people paying attention to the contest decided to rally behind Snake... that's all he needs. I still believe that was what pushed Crono over Mario... not necessarily an increase in popularity. I'm going off on a tangent, but yeah all this trying to find complex reasoning for every single thing that happens sometimes isn't worth it. The answer many times is probably much simpler... --- Currently playing: Grand Theft Auto 3, Devil May Cry, Mega Man ZX |

Only because he got that percentage on MM in the first place. Your
circular reasoning is all well and good EC, but you know I can't take
you seriously when you do it. Actually a large part of it is Riku getting 45% on Yoshi, who beat Dante. I'd certainly take Sora > Riku with at least 55% before any SFF. If it was just his match with MM that'd be lame. --- Portugal. The Man Cheer Up Emo Kids |

SFF. If it was just his match with MM that'd be lame. I know that's a large part of it, but on the *day* before Mega Man/Sora you said that Sora/Yoshi was a tough-to-call match -- you gave it to Sora in the first round based on KH2, but after Yoshi beat Dante you called it a tossup. Which, really, is what I think it would be -- I'd take Sora myself, but I couldn't see it by anything overwhelming. Shifting gears after the Mega Man match in order to argue for Mega Man...well, that's just what I said it was. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |
Haste_2 | Posted 11/8/2006 8:36:33 PM | message detail |
I doubt Snake is helped by the FF influx. If that's the case, shouldn't
we have seen Mega Man gain between 2K4 and 2K5? If Snake's stronger, I
would think it's been from the beginning and perhaps due to the SSBB
trailers. It's my opinion that Snake isn't stronger this year,
though...I just think Mega Man is in danger of losing because MM's
weaker. It's Not that I'm confident with that, though. And...maybe there isn't much of an FF influx. Seeing how this match is lining up with Chun Li through the new estimated Bowser (nearly 34% on BL), it's possible Zelda didn't really grow from last year, which lines up with Ganondorf not seeming to gain since last year, as well. Yeah, that means Aeris is weaker than even in 2K2...but, hey...at least KOS-MOS lines up with 2K5, and is even slightly higher still. --- Sign the Petition for more stats in the GameFAQs Contests here: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=7&topic=30693799 |

Eh... I think it's more than a toss-up though. As much as I want to
rally behind Dante, Thinking Riku could get 45% on Sora seems more
ridiculous every second. Couple it with MM who I don't really think has
lost a step, and if Snake wins this, it'll be because of Snake, and I
can see Sora > everyone buy N9 + Vincent. --- Portugal. The Man Cheer Up Emo Kids |
