Wow, Yuna held up amazingly well against
the Zelda morning vote. I am extremely impressed. She's very close to
Aeris's percentage right now, too, so if you want to chalk up FFXII
influx to this, that's as good of an excuse as any, I suppose. Nobody
in their wildest dreams would've projected Yuna and Aeris to be closer
than Zelda and Aeris pre-contest. It'll be awesome if she outdoes
Aeris, too. Yuna deserves it. Preliminary stats forthcoming! --- Captain Jack Sparrow's Run to the NCAA Character Contest II Championship: Week 7: Bahamut (2-4) |

They should indeed end up pretty close, but Aeris should have some distance between her and Yuna when it's all said and done. --- "Let's face it: the princess Zelda has always been a symbol of sexual desire." |

the fact that Yuna's even close to Aeris is amazing. heck, you could have argued Aeris / Auron pre-contest. --- xyzzy |
TehMissingLink | Posted 11/8/2006 10:39:45 AM | message detail |
Yeah. It'll be interesting to how they ended up being that way in the
end, whether it was Yuna increasing and Aeris decreasing about the same
or one going way up and the other way down. --- "Let's face it: the princess Zelda has always been a symbol of sexual desire." |

Am I the only one surprised by the rejoicing over Yuna's performance here? Yeah she's matching Aeris, and that's clearly impressive, but in the wake of Tifa/Samus, shouldn't she be doing much, much better? Well, I guess my problem with this rejoicing then is because it doesn't make Tifa/Samus any more clearer. If the FFXII effect were that big, you'd think Yuna would benefit from it as well, no? So if Yuna's doing just okay (and I think that's about as well as she is doing, well, but not extraordinary), what went wrong with Tifa/Samus? Picture factor? I've been so horribly against that for years now...it hurts to consider it. --- Revenge is a dish best served by Z1mZum in the 2k6 Series Guru Contest. |

Picture factor? I've been so horribly against that for years now...it hurts to consider it. It's stupid to completely ignore it too. Just because something you used to believe has been completely shattered, why stop believing it right? And how can you be against it when matches like Snake/Frog have gone down? Samus isn't dropping 10% in 2 years. Tifa isn't boosting that much either, unless of course Jill and Peach are suddenly worth a damn. --- mmm feel the vibration baby |
transience | Posted 11/8/2006 11:07:50 AM | message detail |
this match is telling me that Zelda isn't some dominating Noble Nine
killer. she certainly looked the part as she ripped through her
division, but I have a hard time believing that Yuna's suddenly worth
32% or something. before this match I pegged her at 29%, figuring that
Zelda would be around 35 and that looks about accurate. it looks like
Aeris just fell off the face of the earth for some odd reason. this doesn't mean Zelda / Samus is a sure thing though - Samus, for all we know, could have just dropped severely. nobody really knows what happened there against Tifa, so that match is somewhat unpredictable. I'd be shocked if Zelda actually pulled off the win, but the percentages are certainly up for debate. --- xyzzy |

say "Yes, yes they are." --- Should I start running now? |

ah yes, of course. 80% on Terra? pfft, overperformance! 56% on Aeris? of course Aeris dropped! Actually yes. Zelda wasn't suddenly going to beat Mario, and Aeris had underperformed in every match prior to that. It wasn't really surprising at all. --- mmm feel the vibration baby |

It's stupid to completely ignore it too. Just because something you
used to believe has been completely shattered, why stop believing it
right? And how can you be against it when matches like Snake/Frog have
gone down? Samus isn't dropping 10% in 2 years. Tifa isn't boosting
that much either, unless of course Jill and Peach are suddenly worth a
damn. I never said I was ignoring it. I implied that it's a radical turnaround for someone who's been discounting picture factor to have to really believe it exists. Maybe you should have thought about what I said before portraying me as inflexible? The problem with the pic factor is your faith in humankind wants to say "No voters can't be THAT dumb" and yet time and time again the stats say "Yes, yes they are." So Zelda didn't look like a killer because she did too well in her matches? Only in Terra's case, no one bought that match as reality when it happened, please site one person who was taking Zelda > Mario after that happened. Carmen was an unknown, and guaranteed fodder, and Aeris looked like ass 3 rounds in a row. There was no reason to think that Zelda had boosted any significant amount. --- mmm feel the vibration baby |

Uh, she would be able to beat Snake and Sonic if that was her real strength. What? I guess it's impossible for Tifa to have benefitted from AC, KHII and DoC (not to mention FFXII). Yeah she's matching Aeris, and that's clearly impressive, but in the wake of Tifa/Samus, shouldn't she be doing much, much better? Why "much, much better?" Nobody honestly expected her to be around Aeris's number even so. It's impressive when you consider just how much Zelda had been killing everything up to this point. Yes, Yuna had, too, but nobody expected her to be more than middle of the road. We knew Zelda was near-elite.
