At 5 AM is was projected to get just over 140,000 and it's maintained that and has almost reached a projected 145,000.

145,000? We may beat Link/Cloud 2003, or at least give it a scare, and Samus's picture probably isn't even recognizable to a good portion of her fanbase. Yeah, this is FFXII.

Yeah, this is FFXII.

Damnit I hope not. Yuna might give Zelda a scare and since FF and MGS seem to tie fanbases so much it gives Snake even more of an edge against MM.

Yuna might give Zelda a scare

I really, really doubt it. Yuna looks stronger this year, but FFXII or whatever isn't going to make that match remotely interesting.

I'd be pretty confident in Yuna winning tomorrow.
Zelda is nothing more than an upper midcarder, who has disposed of fodder and a character in severe decline.
There is no reason whatsoever to give Zelda favorite tag tomorrow. And with the FFXII voters? I'd say Yuna has a clear edge. 52% is my prediction.

That's what I thought about this match (well, except that Tifa showed no signs of being strong this contest). I still attribute this to pic factor, but if it is all FFXII, Zelda better watch herself if Yuna gets as big of a boost as Tifa.

And there's another big update for Samus! This one is about done, fortunately.

That's what I thought about this match (well, except that Tifa showed no signs of being strong this contest). I still attribute this to pic factor, but if it is all FFXII, Zelda better watch herself if Yuna gets as big of a boost as Tifa.

There are numerous factors you could contribute to this match, one of which being that Samus isn't as strong as she was last year, and get this result. The difference between Yuna and Zelda is far too great -- and Zelda has looked far too impressive -- for something like FFXII to make up the gap. I'm expecting it to be similar to what Ganon did last year.

FFXII may help out Yuna, but Zelda has already overcome it once against Aeris, and she's simply out of Yuna's league. 45% is the highest I could see Yuna getting tomorrow.

Well, why would TP bring a slew of new people. I mean, Zelda is more well-known on this site than FFVII already. While a good portion of this site has not played FFVII, pratically everyone on this site has played a Zelda game. I don't see why an FFVII remake wouldn't help Cloud as much as TP helps Link.

Cause its a launch title on a revolutionary new system maybe?

I think Samus is underperforming, do to pic of course, all of this is NOT kh2 ffx12.
shadow8021 | Posted 11/7/2006 12:18:40 PM | message detail
I think this is a combo from a heavy Tifa boost from FF:AC (like Vincent's), and a dropoff from Samus, who let's face it, has always looked like she could win the tournament, but just look at how Metroid completely unraveled in the Series Contest. Sure, it was SFF, but Link vs. Samus was only 62-38! How coulde something 62-38 turn into 85-15? There always seems to b e something holding Samus/Metroid back in these contests, as also shown in 2005 by Ridley. I just don't think that anything Metroid is cut out to win this tournament, which may be why Zelda could very well knock Samus out next round (provided she doesn't slip up against Yuna first).

In short, Samus = The Indianapolis Colts of the tournament. They're always the favorite, but when they get close to the Super Bowl, they unravel and choke.

I haven't read the other topics (and probably won't, it's usually just match descriptions) but why would it take days for the ffxii effect? Mario/Cloud happened the day of the SMS release, and the effect was obviously immediate. I don't want to chalk this all up to ffXII or pic factor, but, it's probably more KH2 Tifa than FFXII doing the job here.

The high vote totals could also be explained by two huge Nintendo and Square characters going at it and in a really close match. I'm sure FFXII is bringing people to the site...but I don't think it's causing Tifa to do this well today.

Mario/Cloud happened the day of the SMS release, and the effect was obviously immediate.

I'm sceptical as to how much SMS actually did, myself. It did SOMETHING, yes, but the effect it has was overhyped. The Planet Gamecube link and the possibility of stuffing is enough, methinks.

And anyway, Aeris wasn't directly in FFXII. It doesn't have a huge amount of parallels with SMS.

SMS factor wasn't from people needing FAQs and coming to gamefaqs like ff12, though. It was from excited Mario fans being elsewhere on the internet (pgc), and getting linked to gamefaqs.

This too. And yeah, Xuxon, it's not a game you really need an FAQ for...as opposed to something like FF.

I don't want to chalk this all up to ffXII or pic factor, but, it's probably more KH2 Tifa than FFXII doing the job here.

This is pure speculation, but perhaps SMS did have an effect later, Samus overperformed on Sephiroth, Mario overperformed on Crono, Link overperformed on Sephiroth, Link SFFed Mario, and Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth all boosted in 2003. The votals at the end of the SC2K2 were around twice those of the first round; SMS could have played a large role in that.

Mario/Cloud is wierd though, because it had far higher votals than anything else in 2002; I'd think Link/Sephiroth, at least, could draw more votes. And there is Planet Gamecube, but they couldn't have rallied more than a couple thousand votes. Although, SMS isn't really the type of game people would come looking for help for. It'd make sense that the boost from that would be more front-loaded, more centered on hype and anticipation than actual people needing help.

On the idea that Samus was overadjusted last year: that causes minor problems with Riku, and even Frog. Not to mention Yuna/Ganon/Auron (no, Samus was NOT nearly even with Ganon before SFF).

Well, Yuna, Ganon, and Auron have all impressed this contest, and Ganon did get 41+ on Sephiroth. Yes, it was an overperformance, but if Ganon/Auron/Yuna are as strong as they look, I don't see the problem with Ganon being worth, say, 45% on Samus last year before SFF. And I wouldn't be calling for Samus to be overadjusted more than a couple of percent against Mario.

Mario vs. Crono happened four days after Mario vs. Cloud. Are you suggesting that Mario was stronger when fighting Crono (and even Link) than he was against Cloud? I really don't think that Crono would crush Cloud in 2k2...that could make Cloud weaker than Snake.
