Day-um...Tifa still going toe-to-toe. Lots of discussion to catch up on here for me. Topic hasn't been this active in a while. So it seems that something like 1/4 of her fans at this site either don't know Samus is a girl, or dislike her as a girl so much they don't vote for her like that (I think the former is much more likely). Obviously nobody here expected a proportion that big. This is a video game site, you'd think people would be more familiar with the character, but apparently not. One wonders what the proportion is among the general gaming populace! Reminds me of when I said that the only good thing to come out of the female bracket might be seeing how many people nominated Samus as male (which still holds, as we could've gotten all these matches, including a Zero-Suit induced slobberknocker, in a regular bracket). There's no real reason for Samus to have dropped, so it's gotta be all Tifa. I'd say it rank ZSS AC KHII FFXII I don't think FFXII did much. It certainly didn't help Aeris. Normally I'd agree, but the problem of Jill makes FFXII being a factor more likely. Not a huge factor (like I said, ~2%), but still about as big as AC/KH2 combined. It's entirely possible that it did help Aeris, even if only a little. I'd say it's a decent combination of all of them. There's no real
reason for Samus to have dropped, so it's gotta be all Tifa. I think
that FFXII is the biggest of the factors, and KHII is probably the
smallest. I highly doubt FF12 has much of anything to do with anything...tough to say for sure, but that is a *very* big stretch. Just look at vote totals. They haven't really budged by more than some thousands from earlier in the contest, and you'd expect a heavyweight match like this to get significantly more votes than earlier matches anyway. That's a puts on a pretty big kabosh on the FF12 factor. Tifa boosting is possible. But it seems like common sense to say that the picture is killing Samus here, accounting for most of what's going on. After all, there are two confirmed non-linearity factors we know of: 1) Fanbase overlap non-linearity 2) Picture-induced non-linearity (most of us also have strong suspicions of Sephiroth/Ganon/Bowser VC weirdness, but there's no smoking gun for that) We already know that unrecognizable pictures can really hurt characters badly, and that seems the obvious culprit here. Just about no one would've expected it to hurt Samus anything approaching this badly, but in retrospect it seems clear - and if we were told about this kind of result beforehand, we would've placed most of the blame on the picture too.
