Thank you GOD for that last update....

...and about this picture not being able to be worse for Samus than it is for Snake, the name "Snake" is used about 18,000 more often in the MG games than "Samus" is in Metroid. I still think Snake underperforms in the sprite round... so long as his face isn't in the background, but I think it's silly to simply discredit this match because Bowser only overperformed by a couple percent against Snake. But guess what, Frog overperformed by a whole hell of a lot more against Snake than that, so it's possible. Give me a match that says "Samus Aran vs. Solid Snake" with a match picture, and I'll take Samus easily, give me one with the pic, and it suddenly becomes a whole hell of a lot closer. Hell I think Samus might actually be better off in this situation without a picture, simply because I can see people thinking it is Samus, seeing the pic, and going "Hmmm... must be someone else" especially those who love her for her SSB appearances, they only reference her as Samus in that, not Samus Aran. Is it a good picture? In the sense of looking good, hell yeah. Is it tapping Samus' full potential? Not even close.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw the poll results and Tifa was in the lead. It's a shame she couldn't hold it. WHY MUST HER DAY VOTE SUCK SO MUCH?! This could've been the greatest day in the history of these contests.

Behold the power of KHII and AC! Cloud > Link confirmed! Honestly, this isn't all the picture. We've seen characters with KHII appearances look very strong, much stronger than they've ever been before.

...Squall > Snake indirectly confirmed!

And suddenly we're not talking about Snake, Sonic, Crono, and Mega Man just winning the MALE bracket anymore! This is awesome. Although I'm not sure if this performance makes Sonic look better or worse...

The Tifa support for this match raises an important question. Does anybody actually like Samus?
I mean she always loses SFF matches and her games stink in contests so maybe Samus voters are just people who'd vote Nintendo over anything?

I like Samus... I mean there's nothing great about her, but she's an alright character.

And there's plenty of reason to compare this to Snake's sprite, if you want to be blinded and say it can't be bad because the actual picture is nice, despite it being extremely unrecognizable by a assload of Samus supporters, then do so.

Well I'm not going to repeat what I already said in previous posts, but there's extremely reasonable to think that this pic can be hurting Samus just as badly as Snake's hurt him, or even worse. Which is more aesthetically pleasing? Samus', but that doesn't mean it can't hurt her.

You're talking to the wrong guy. I've been saying forever that it's silly to think a trailer for Snake in SSBB is going to boost him to new levels, or that he's suddenly going to act like a Nintendo character because of it. Don't blame everyone else on me.

I think some voters are refusing to vote for Samus because they dislike her image without the suit... it's not a bad picture, but... it's like she's not Samus at all (someone else pointed that out...I forget). With Snake, he has some semblence of being that sneaky stealth man, and he gets hurt by 8-bit pictures... I also wouldn't be surprised to see Samus drop in strength permanently after SSBB comes out, regardless of the type of picture she has....well, she does have the new Metroid game coming out, so she'll probably be alright.

As for a Samus drop, I could see it...but not very much, though. She was too dominant in Round 2 and 3 to make me think that...I could see Tifa growing a good deal, though.

I have to admit that half the reason I'm a huge fan of Samus is because of her suit... I just wouldn't care for her if she was suitless in all her games.

Yeah, the only reason I recognize her is because of the new SSB trailer myself. Otherwise, I'd just know it's her because of the combination that her name is Samus and I'm not an idiot.

I don't mind Samus - she gets the job done and does have some character if you explore around. In any case, even if you think she doesn't have character...no character > bad character.

I didn't like Tifa to begin with - most FF7 characters suck IMO - but I wanted Samus to blow Tifa out of the water for DARING to beat The Boss with so much force. I don't care what that says for Boss' strength, her ranking will be complete BS anyway due to the obvious SFF.

Speaking of which, doesn't SFF usually go to the better character? Heh...

Let's put it this way, if I never played MZM then I wouldn't have recongnized her. It's probably the same with many SSB players.

Exactly, it's not just she's unrecognizable like Snake's sprites are, it's that she looks like a completely different person. If I didn't know any better and had only played the SSB games, I see "Samus Aran" and see that picture and say "WTF who?" thinking it's completely different character. I can certainly see A LOT of people doing that. Honestly, what other way is there to explain this match? I can't think of one that's reasonable. Samus overrated last year? Auron, Ganon, and Yuna all performing better than last years numbers show say otherwise. Tifa boost from KH2/AC? Yeah, and Jill suddenly turned around a year after year decline into a massive boost from no new game.

The only possible explanation is FFXII new voters coming here and supporting the FF crew... but the votals aren't higher than usual, so I'm skeptical of how much exactly that comes into play. You can say it's not the picture all you like, but please, come up a better explanation.
