Where's the proof that Zelda has boosted? Terra? lolz.
It'll go 50-50. Don't kid yourself, and Zelda will be lucky to have a chance to make it a match, as far as I'm concerned she's going into this the underdog.

LOL at Zelda going in the underdog. Aeris sucked it up against KOS-MOS well Zelda has looked like Clinkeroth blowing fodder off the planet. It's fine to think Aeris can win but saying that Zelda is the underdog is insane.

Let's put it this way, I'd be comfortably taking Zelda over Tifa. All indications show that Tifa > Aeris, and if her match against KOS-MOS is believable, by a good margin to boot.

I can't believe people would actually take Jade or Laharl over Tron Bonne. PLEASE don't compare how fodder gets blown out to how other fodder would do. In a fodder/fodder contest, I'll side with the character from the more known series. Hell, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 by itself is more popular than Disgaea and Beyond Good and Evil combined, let alone the few Mega Man Legends fans there are out there. Tron Bonne may end up being crap in a long run, but I'd definitely side with her in a fodder/fodder matchup. Think Ada/Jade, except not as big a blowout.

this won't be another 5 post mother, but I'll do a quick winners and losers list:

Star of the Round: Yoshi - 55% on Riku? Dante looking dominant vs. Ryu? Yoshi comes through anyway in his first match against an opponent of strength. (no, Luigi doesn't count, that's SFF)

other stars: Ryu, Snake, Zelda, Yuna, Luigi, Sub-Zero, Tifa

Turd of the Round: Aeris - two straight underwhelming performances, the latter of which was against a cult RPG whose most recent game sold less than 100,000 copies. for what was supposed to be the match of the female bracket, Aeris/Zelda is awfully one-sided right now.

other turds: Joanna, Terra, mayyybe Mega Man

rankings of the remaining characters:

1.) Samus
2.) Crono
3.) Sonic
4.) Mega Man
5.) Snake

6.) Tifa
7.) Zelda
8.) Auron
9.) Yoshi
10.) Luigi
11.) Aeris
12.) Sora

13.) Yuna
14.) Rikku
15.) Chun Li

16.) Peach

well Tifa would whoop on Sora, no doubt.. but indirectly, there's really nothing that crazy about that.

and Peach wouldn't beat a single person left in the field! well, I guess you could make an argument about Chun Li, but after that? no way.

4t) Mega Man

5) Tifa
6) Auron
7) Zelda
8) Aeris

Oh, right.

Most Improved From Round 1 (Male): Gordon Freeman

The last free man disappointed against Phoenix in round 1, but showed his Half-Life 2 power by pulling a respectable number on Sora.

I have to say he is doing the best of the males I've paid attention to. I don't know if this is combined with the trend that Sora seems to be following, though, with his performance on the lower seeds. Maybe he IS the Tidus of KH...

Most Improved From Round 1 (Female): Samus

After stinking it up against Nidoran F, Samus went out and proved that her first round blunder was likely due to Nidoran F's joke power and LUE backing. She's shown herself to be fully capable of winning the bracket and restored alot of faith that some people may have lost after round 1.

There we go. With Rikku doing okay, the other female 1 seeds doing as well as expected(AKA not changing with numbers against the random fodder), and Peach in a nail-biter with Jill, Samus was the only logical choice.

Biggest Loser (Male): Squall

Squall was looking ready to impress against Snake after his ugly beat-down of Tidus in round 1, but he somehow managed to choke it up and prove that his 2k2 match with Snake was no fluke, and that MGS/FF SFF does indeed exist.

Hmmmm... I'm not sure on this one. I was more expecting Mega Man's weak performance. Squall's was kinda expected, since I don't think he comes across as much of a Noble Niner breaker.

Biggest Loser (Female): Joanna Dark/Terra Branford/Ada Wong/The Boss

All 4 of these lovely ladies managed to get completely blown out, and made their 1 seed opponents look like Clinkeroth. There's really no excuse for the extent that they bombed.

*stamps with approval and moves on*

Most Impressive (Male): Luigi

Luigi makes it past the second round for the first time ever by comfortably beating Kirby and almost certainly proving Dream Division overratedness. Luigi managed to win a fourpack that the board figured would belong to Zero. Next round we'll see if Luigi can act as a Mario proxy against Sonic like Shadow the Hedgehog did against Mario.

*see above*

Most Impressive (Female): Yuna

Oddly enough, the most impressive performance on the female side doesn't belong to any of the near elites, but to Yuna, the black sheep of the female 1 seeds, who managed to blow out Joanna Dark almost as badly as Mario did last year, when Joanna had her X-Box 360 launch title in between the matches. Whether or not this is the result of random fodder variation, or some other unseen factor matters not, Yuna is almost guarenteed to win her division in a match that at one point had some debate behind it.

I'll have to agree on this. Who expected Yuna to be any sort of force in the competition like she's rolling on now? I'm really looking forward to her match vs. Chunners. Maybe it'll contend with the most exciting match we've seen this time around(Peach v. Jill being the only one so far).

Karma Hunter | Posted 10/29/2006 6:31:38 PM | message detail
Putting Squall as Loser of the Round just reeks of wrong for me. Not one bracket had him winning that match, and the primary reason why anyone thought he had a chance in the first place was because he had been so impressive in the first round. He did, what, 2% or so below what most people expected of him? (I, for one, was almost dead-on-target that match)

Mega Man, on the other hand, had nearly every reason to blow Ryu away, and the only reason why half the people even had him getting less than 60% was because of that "Ryu always breaks 40%" stigma. That's the same thing which burnt people in Sora/Gordon, which more or less proved the superstition is a load of bollocks.

Squall had every reason to underperform in that match, and Lord knows we'd seen it happen once already. Mega Man's biggest excuse is that someone else overperformed in his stead. No matter what he does from here on out, MM/Ryu was just terrible.
