I'm not taking Luigi over Yoshi. I'm not betting on any sort of
hierarchy shift happening in the Nintendo pecking order, and as
arrogant as it sounds, to think otherwise is probably hopeless
optimism. As close as Yoshi/Luigi was as SFF affairs go, it was pretty
damn decisive. Luigi doesn't just need a Nintendo-centric influx, he

Luigi is the Vincent of this contest, no doubt, unless some magical
Noble Nine upset happens. I had him going out in round 1 with ease and
he's made me look stupid. if I had to pick a star of round 2... yeah, Luigi I guess. there have been more impressive performances, but I don't put too much stock in blowing out fodder. Yoshi's performance was also good. speaking of Yoshi, does anyone take him over Zero before this contest? cause I woulda taken Zero regardless. --- xyzzy |

I would have struggled to all hell with Yoshi/Zero, and probably taken
Yoshi in an 'upset' based on the whole "Yoshi must be proportionally X
stronger than Luigi" argument. Sure, the logic would have been totally wrong, but who cares! --- *kills self Commit it to memory. |

Huh. Looks like Luigi is owning the dead vote. Unless this is another
Mega Man/Axel, Kirby will probably bring this down during morning, but

So how's that Dante vs Kirby match supposed to go this year? If Luigi finishes with what he has now (51.77%) and is equal to Yoshi, Dante beats Kirby with 51.23%. Now, obviously Kirby looks better in that setup the closer this match ends. --- *kills self Commit it to memory. |

Who do you pick in Kirby/Yoshi? And what does that say about
Bowser/Yoshi? I don't think it's unwarranted to think that doing a
percent worse against a common opponent than someone who's supposed to
beat you with, oh, 62% of the vote implies a pretty significant shift. Better yet, does Luigi beat Kirby last year? What does that say about Bowser/Tifa and Snake/Tifa? I know this match is closer than Yoshi/Luigi was, but a lot has happened since then. oh, 62% of the vote implies a pretty significant shift. Luigi has been underrated, and going through the direct Nintendo hierarchy matchups for extrapolation is just plain asking for trouble. Your question concerning Kirby/Yoshi and Bowser/Yoshi is a loaded one...despite this match, do I expect Luigi to break 48% on Bowser? HELL no. Kirby's fanbase is distinct enough to pull off what he does. To me it just goes Mario > Bowser > Yoshi > Luigi > Kirby > Donkey Kong > Peach >= Wario, strictly speaking for the non-Zelda/Metroid gang. --- *kills self Commit it to memory. |

I took Zero over Luigi without a second thought, but I would have
thought a lot harder about taking Zero over Yoshi. I'm sure I would

Yeah, we've discussed this before. The Mario poll suggests that he
would, but I definitely wouldn't expect Bowser to collapse against Mega

I think Yoshi tends to do well in those polls because he is always
one of the best characters to pick in the Kart and Party games. That should carry over to his intrinsic contest strength, however (or at least in direct matches against Mario characters). ...and I thought that was HaRR's schtick! Ah, Fox and Ness. Fox beats Peach but loses to DK -- although I see him
being a viable upset there if for no other reason because it's Donkey Kong. I continually seem to underestimate Ness, but I really have a hard time seeing him lose to Peach...I'll put him in that tier for safety's sake, still giving the edge to her. --- *kills self Commit it to memory. |

Well, keep in mind being the best playable in Mario Kart would probably

MM/Yoshi is flat out confusing to me. I wonder if Mario would beat him as bad sometimes. It'd be almost worth it to see Mega Man rebound from these bad performances and beat Snake for the third time, if only so he could potentially go on and humiliate Samus in the same way! Those are the only two conclusions that will be satisfying to me -- Snake beating Mega Man, or Mega Man winning the main bracket. Crono/Sonic > Mega Man would be so boring to me. Sonic or Snake winning the male bracket at this point is what I would
want too. Snake for preference and Sonic for bringing Vincent and Ganon

all I care is that we have a kickass final week. I'd like to see Samus
win so she can have a little redemption after her bombing in 2k5, but

Good thing his 3rd round opponent (if he makes it!) is one of them! Hmmm...The Sonic day vote vs. the Mario day vote will be interesting to see. Yoshi got SFFed by Bowser because Bowser is just preferred by the Mario
fanbase here. That's really all it is to me. That's why I don't see
