Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 396

It's not like we're not gonna get fodder anyway. Like hell that we have 64 characters over the fodder line.

Might as well change up the fodder each contest just in case we do find someone with actual strength (hello Sub-Zero!).

Well it's kind of expected for this to happen. Xenosaga 3 obviously can help out kos-mos' popularity a good deal, but it can't work miracles. Pushing up near 39% on aeris after the board vote looked damned impressive on her part though, and as long as she can avoid a doubling this is an impressive performance on her part.

When D... I'd be able to finish this sig if Z1mZum didn't own me so hard in the guru contest. Congrats on your victory!

Getting a fodder contest champion would be like a game of blackjack...trying to get a character that's as close to the line as possible without going over.

Though you could really end up with a total oddball winning that.

TOS is a good comparison.. both in hierarchy and in strength. Citan vs. Kratos? hmm, I'd probably take Kratos.

if Aeris is within 55% at the first freeze, I think she'll have enough to win that match.

You'd consider her the favorite even after being tripled at the freeze? CONTEST NOOB, FOLKS. POINT AND GAWK.

oh, and Aeris vs. Zelda is going to start out being an absolute blowout. if Aeris is within 55% at the first freeze, I think she'll have enough to win that match. unfortunately she's probably going to be behind by a whole lot more, from bracket voting to the board vote favourite Nintendo to ff7 antivoting.

Is it so bad to absolutely despise Aeris for being a useless waste of a character slot? The fact that I voted KOS-MOS over her should be indicative of my feelings on Aeris.

Name a niche character that only starred in 1 or 2 games that didn't fall completely off the map after not getting any games.

Laharl

In order to fall off a map, you have to be on it first.

The problem is what do you base the fodder line on? Have the winner face Link for ****s and giggles?

In order to fall off a map, you have to be on it first.

And since when have fodder characters ever been "on the map"? You're not accepting Alucard or Crono as niche characters because they're well above the fodder line, but being below the fodder line doesn't count either? The hell?

But remember Citan is Square, but then again he isnt recent while Kratos is...hmm I like that match. Wish it happened instead of the entire female first round.

I really could care less about who gets in. As long as the matches are interesting, I'm happy.

I think maybe next time we might have a characters who has never gotten in contest...but then some FF7 will just run over everyone. We need a games contest before anything else though.

And another Games Contest held in June would have like...

Twilight Princess
Final Fantasy XII
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption
Halo 2
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (I laughed while typing this with nice memories from the series contest)
Metal Gear Solid 3

That's just to name recent stuff, too. Doesn't even take into account the games like Super Mario Bros., Final Fantasy VIII, Majora's Mask, etc. that missed the cut last time. We need another one so bad.

If Aeris is going to beat Zelda, she's going to have to shapen up -- Zelda could be as high as Mario right now (she's not, but work with me). Zelda has beat her past two opponents noticably worse than expected while Aeris has let Marle and KOS-MOS do better than expected (thus far for KOS, at least). Zelda has both the seeding and likely seeding advantage. LoZ > FF in the Series Contest and SSB came in as a very easy fourth, both of which were surprising. If Aeris didn't have FF12 being released on the day of the match, I would be calling Zelda a lock right now.

I've been preaching a summer game contest over the character battle for over a year now. these things may be tradition, but game contests are off the hook.

remember all the whining from the Series Contest? well, that just shows that people care so much more about games than they do characters. there's a reason we know SF2 LOST and DQ LOST and all those and now "WTF SAMUS LOST?"

Vyse was considerably stronger than Laharl (relatively speaking). Alucard comes from what is easily the most popular Castlevania game, and Castlevania is pretty mainstream.

Same with Chrono Trigger. Although it isn't "mainstream" per se, I'm willing to bet at least 3/4 of this site has played it

The problem with a games contest is that even if ZOE2 some how got in, it would be fodder. Same with other great games that just aren't popular enough (Like Shadow Hearts: Covenant).

And I'd love to see another game contest.

We can replace some of the fodderific crap like Adventure and DDR with popular games that have come out since, like WoW, TP, Halo 2 and the slew of games coming out over the next few months.

You could almost make an entire contest of new games (TP, FFVII, MM, Halo 2, GTA:SA, etc.). Add in the old good stuff and a much better bracket (without divisions would be awesome) and put it in the summer with this new poll position and you have the best contest ever right there.

"You could almost make an entire contest of new games"

I didnt that right after the games contest ended and it was still a decently good bracket. With the last few years of games it'd be spectacular, and FF7 could step in for an extra match and finish of the winning of the new bracket. :)

Not gonna happen, though.

Also, since I saw BT ask about it earlier...I've not bothered to find the exact position of either Zelda-through-Terra-2k5 or Aeris-through-KOS-2k5, but its result is Zelda winning in around a 66-34 affair.
