While the pic factor played a big role in Frog's run that year, I'd say
that if anything it was the momentum he gained from those first two
narrow wins. Because he barely edged past Liquid, that was enough for
me at the time to get all of my friends to vote for Frog. Several
hundred people did the same thing as me, but the point is that getting
off of a hot match plays a big role in your performance later on. For
that reason I think the numbers of Frog/Snake were inflated in Frog's
favor. Momentum's also a reason why I think Crono, the statistically weaker character, will beat Samus. Because I foresee him getting wins off of powerful competition in Bowser, Auron, Sonic, and Mega Man, he'll actually have lots of impressive wins backing him, whereas Samus has a cupcake schedule of Ada/Rikku or Kairi/Tifa/Zelda or Aeris (I actually see some of these females putting up inflated numbers against Samus, which may take the board's overwhelming faith in her away somewhat). --- Proud fanboy of the Ogre Battle saga!!! ~~~Allah Approves~~~ |

Momentum's also a reason why I think Crono, the statistically weaker character, will beat Samus. People used this argument for Mario beating Sephiroth after coming off an entire CONTEST's worth of competition while Sephiroth had just been sitting around. He ended up looking worse than Bowser for a while and got his ass handed to him severely by the end. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

This basically describes it well. I think the idea that Snake
underperforms significantly when he has his sprite is absolutely absurd. One cannot say such a thing, when the belief is so obvious. Even if it is wrong, it's the obvious thing to think. And how can one forget that we all expected Snake to underperform against Bowser once we saw the sprite pic? We already knew it was his weakness. Just before the match when the pic came up was when people really got on the Bowser>Snake bandwagon. Snake sprite kryptonite is not an after-the-fact rational, it was expected to be his weakness and it was. If Bowser remained constant with last year, Leon Kennedy is at 32.64%

*rationale And I don't see why people are questioning Frog's sprite helping him out too. We don't have enough matches to say anything conclusive, but it is the first gut reaction, and a very strong one, to think that Frog is stronger with a sprite. To dismiss this with no reason to do so is going in the wrong direction. One cannot say such a thing, when the belief is so obvious. Even if it is wrong, it's the obvious thing to think. It is absolutely stupid to believe that the picture makes Snake significantly underperform. We have seen one occurrence where the picture made Snake look to underperform significantly one year. It was by far the worst picture he has ever had against Frog's sprite and in Snake's weakest year. Ryu did not overperform in 2003 when Snake was given his sprite. Why is that? Because -- GASP -- maybe the picture is not nearly as big a deal as some people want to believe. It is nonsense that Snake's strength is directly attached to his picture like some people want to think. It is SOLID ****ING SNAKE. The name is plastered on the picture and the voting option is clearly there. How many characters named "Solid Snake" do you know? Oh, right, only one. Anyone thinking that the picture makes Snake significantly underperform is out of their mind. There is nothing pointing to that being the case except with Frog. Today does not lend credence to that horrible theory at all. Perhaps some people forget the fact that Resident Evil 4 came out on the PS2 and sold a lot more copies on the GCN. Perhaps we can forget all of that and assume this is without a doubt Bowser being significantly overrated due to one of the stupiest theories these contests have come up with. And -- just maybe -- the 41.56% of people who have played the original Metal Gear here are oblivious to the fact that the Solid Snake they know and love is missing from the picture. Perhaps the people who go to vote on the match think that Solid Snake is not in the match when they go to vote. Yes, let's all think that Solid Snake's performance is entirely dependent on the quality of his picture. --- "That's a cruel, rotten, disgusting idea -- and I love it!" |

I don't think it's THAT farfetched. I mean, when there's usually 30%+
of the voter base that haven't even played a game the character is
from, picture could sway some a little bit. It's not like we're talking
monumental underperformance here. Maybe like, 2% But in Snake's case, I don't... really know. When he doesn't get a sprite, he's usually getting artwork. And most of it isn't exactly awe-inspiring to begin with. --- ertyu and VeghEsther are truly proof that there is much about this world we still do not understand. |

That couldn't be because Leon Kennedy got the most popular Resident Evil game ported to the PlayStation 2 could it? No way! This must be Bowser being overrated! I'm pretty sure I'm not the one who completely ignored that fact and gave Bowser a 63% victory anyway! 55.5% using good ol' EC-stats has turned out pretty well. You see, you boost Leon up to 30% on BL, and Bowser down to 33.5% on BL, and it works perfectly. Then you do the hokey-pokey and you turn yourself around, because that's what it's all about! --- I love bananas. |

As per my thoughts from last night, this lends itself more to a Zero
drop than anything else (or rather perhaps Luigi overperforming on Zero
