Leon would've easily beat Ryu. Leon vs. Knuckles or Magus could've been great though, and maybe even Leon vs. Zero or Kirby. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

X-stats go in Ryu's favour, but Resident Evil beat Street Fighter, and imo, Ryu wouldn't have done this well against Bowser. He had a ****ed up match with Bowser (inexplicable random boost), then Bowser went on to have a ****ed up match with Snake (Solid **** + a close match). I'm a believer in Bowser being overrated and all that now, though I'm
far from certain on it. Bowser would be lucky to end up at 58% with the
after-school vote. But, I'll just post a list of advantages Bowser
being over-rated, and another for Bowser being legit, anyway. The
reasons are listed from most relevant to least relevant (or at least I
tried to)...yes, the lesser reasons are nearly pointless, but I wanted
to gives eight reasons for both sides. Why is Bowser over-rated? (in order of relevance) 1)Not only have Bowser and Ryu clearly under-performed, but you could make cases for Tidus and Kirby doing the same. 2)The need for a Kirby vs. Bowser rSFF seems to get eliminated, especially since it seems weird for Kirby to do the SFFing (on the other hand, perhaps the low vote totals there...). 3)Bowser only got 66% on Ocelot last year...Ocelot who lost to Pac-Man. 4)Bowser did worse on Sephiroth than Ganondorf, assuming they messed Sephy up proportionally...at least it fits with #3. 5)The Bowser/Snake pic itself...yeah, shouldn't it be obvious it helped Bowser? 6)X-stats suggest Rikku is at 26.55% on BL...it must be too high! 7)Chun Li >>> Ken 2K3? No way! (of course, Ken 2K2 might be more accurate even for today) 8)Sp2K5 x-stats say so! Why is Bowser legit? 1)There's a term called..."null hypothesis"! 2)Sure, Bowser and Ryu under-performed, but pre-contest many were expecting nice boosts from both Kratos and Leon. 3)Snake had a similarly bad pic against Ryu, and Ryu/Snake seemed legit. Snake was slightly harder to see in Bowser/Snake, but he looked a little better. 4)Ryu just flat out seems too weak if you assume Bowser was overrated, with M. Bison and the Street Fighter series not disappointing as of late (not that it guarantees anything for Ryu). 5)Luigi and Mario boosted heavily in 2K5...shouldn't Bowser have kinda done the same? Or maybe Bowser pulled a Yoshi... 6)Kirby getting rSFF on Bowser and leaving Bowser alone still sounds kinda good... 7)Shouldn't Chun Li be above M. Riku vs Leon Kennedy, who've you got? I'm taking Riku and losing a point. Realized that Leon had PS2 RE4 an hour ago and not by myself. Shame on me. What's with the OMG HUGE UNDERPERFORMANCE!!! here... Let's say Bowser overperformed by 2% on Snake, gets 47.41% instead. Gives him 35.05%BL Now, Leon gets his PS2 release. Let's give him a 4.50% increase on Base Link, pulls him up to a nice even 32.00%BL lol x-stats? Bowser wins with 54.35% I'm not saying that's what's happening, nor that I even thought of the new release beforehand, but this is nowhere as surprising as people seem to be calling it... --- It looks like I got Z1mZum'd! I had Bowser with 55.5%, but was too much of a girl, and boosted it to
56.5%. I'm not shocked, and I still think it points to an overrated

Gimme Leon Kennedy > Riku without a doubt, especially after this. I
suppose I'll have to concede Ryu > Leon, like I held so firmly to up
to this point. This is extremely impressive. But I've gotta wonder why so many people thought Bowser could get so close to Mega Man's performance. We've already had the RE4 to PS2 thrown in our faces enough times, and we already saw what Kratos did to Ryu. Honestly, I was expecting Leon to break 40% here, though definitely not 45%. I thought he'd be more along the lines of 41-42% like Ryu. Either way, the Bowser > Crono bandwagon gets debunked before we even hit the second round (No, HM, Leon Kennedy is not boosting to Vincent's 2005 level)! But what in the world was up with Crono's crappy bracket support? He barely got 80% of the brackets against a newcomer as a 1 seed? Something seems off... --- As you wish. |

There's going to be no living with EC after this. =P But the thing is, the Zelda series won the last contest (where FF was favored to win) and that was only a few months ago. That's a result that doesn't make a whole lot of sense if Nintendo was weaker now than last year. This has ALWAYS been a stupid argument. FF was favored to win by the board. It was the board's reasoning that gave it that edge, nothing more. Casuals knew better, and if it hadn't been for that groupthink you would have seen a LOT more people here take Zelda as well (I would have been one of them, though you don't see ME blaming the board for my miss). We had never had a series contest before now. If we had held one in 2005, and Zelda had scored 55% on FF/SMB had beaten FF, and then we saw the results that we had in 2006, no one would be talking about a second Nintendo boost in 2006. People would be doubting Nintendo, if anything. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |

I can see a lot of people having played SSB/SSBM and not have a clue who Crono is. But it's still a 1/8 match. It's just baffling all the same, no matter what excuse you give me. I can see a lot of people having played SSB/SSBM and not have a clue who Crono is. Yup. In matches with characters like Simon Belmont, Tom Nook, Conker, and Zidane it's easy for a casual gamer to look at them, go "Huh?" and just pick the higher seed there. But if you've played SSB/M, you know Captain Falcon -- and a LOT of this site has. --- *kills self* Commit it to memory. |
