I honestly believe there are a group of about five people who cheat
for Crono in EVERY SINGLE ONE of his matches, giggling frantically all
the while. Why doesn't Crono decrease? It's because the site loves CT...that's why. GameFAQs increases its traffic by CT fans telling all their friends to come to GameFAQs. It's different from, say, people loving the latest Grand Theft Auto or something. New games come along and are popular for a while...but since this is ultimately a Nintendo/Square site, such games will drop in popularity after not-too-long. Well, it's not precisely that, but...you get the idea. To make Crono drop, I say something would have to happen to the site that made it more mainstream and less biased toward Square. People confuse Magus and Frog dropping with them getting exposed.
There's a big difference. We really have no idea if they dropped or not
because we never had an accurate reading on them before. --- As you wish. |

I do think Crono can only keep this up for so long, to be honest. As
the old crowd leave, and new people arrive, he'll become less and less
known on the site. Obviously, a good many will always be here to vote
for Crono, which is why I can never see him being anything less than a
strong character, but I can definitely see him being the weakest in a
couple of years. This is part of my reasoning for picking Sonic > Crono. Obviously I think Sonic boosted this year, but Crono's popularity getting passed through time is another factor. I mean, casuals who are around 13 or 14-ish come to the site. Who're they going to vote for? Some guy called Crono, who has red hair and a bandanna, or someone like Sonic, well-known recently? Frog and Magus didn't drop, they just didn't boost with everyone else.
It's the same reason why Crono got his socks rocked by Mario last year. Besides, Frog seems to fluctuate in strength randomly, much like Master Chief. Why this is, I do not know. TuRtLe ~~~ I used my brain and statistics to make my bracket. Karma Hunter used MGS fanboyism. KH won. Commit it to memory. |

for Crono, which is why I can never see him being anything less than a
strong character, but I can definitely see him being the weakest in a
couple of years. The mentality that Crono must eventually decrease over time is one that never has any substantial backing. No matter what shifts we see at this site Chrono Trigger is going to be one of the "elite" games. It only makes sense that Crono would benefit rather heavily from that. Now, other characters in the Noble Nine passing him up, and even perhaps the near-elites, would not be particularly surprising. I don't think we'll see any big decline for Crono for a long time to come. Chrono Trigger should get plenty of exposure again on the Virtual Console -- and maybe on whatever system Square Enix decides to release it on again. I think Crono will stay rather static, but other characters around him will go up thanks to their new games and whatnot. --- "Looking good, Princess, especially from this angle!" |

Speaking of Frog and Magus getting exposed... isn't it interesting
that, despite Frog turning out to be much more overrated than Magus,
Magus was the one who lost in the major upset? Magus/Knuckles was more
Knuckles being underestimated (or, rather, Knuckles boosted
unexpectedly) than Magus being overestimated...well, unless the Devil

Yeah. Unlike the rest of the Noble Nine, Crono won't have the benefit
of new games to sustain his popularity (Cloud and Sephiroth have KH +
possible FF7 sequels). Unless CT gets released on the Wii or DS or Xbox
Arcade, he has nowhere else to go but down. It will probably be a very

Only so many people emulate or wish to emulate. They might be running out, who knows? Last time I bought this up, people dismissed it as saying "people say this every year". THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL. People said Gordon Freeman would never win. OOPS. CjayC said he would never merge this site with gamespot. OOPS. I'm sure there's plenty of other examples, but whatever. The afterschool vote today has been almost identical to that of Mega
Man vs. Axel...at the rate things are going, Crono will end up at 74%
almost on the mark. I'm not counting on it going at the same rate,

There's nothing pointing to Crono decreasing and he probably won't. People do come out of the woodwork every year to start preaching out increased vote totals are going to make Crono decrease or how this is the year that Crono finally starts to decline or whatever. Trying to call that again this year is not anything new. You're just stating what has been stated every year. The only reason you even want to say it is so that you reassure yourself that Sonic looks good. I've never denied this - I'm arguing to support my pick, as many people do. Besdies, I hardly need to argue Sonic after his performance on CATS. I know, it's CATS, and we have no idea how to place his hybrid form, but it was still a great performance. Trying to call that again this year is not anything new. You're just stating what has been stated every year. ...Yes, and? I know this already, I referred to it, in fact. What I'm saying is, people are just dimsissing the possibility of a Crono decrease for no other reason than "It's been mentioned before every year", which is horrendous logic. When you're just reguritating the same old stuff we've heard year in and year out without new evidence to support it, why should people bother listening this time? Perhaps if Crono was underperforming today by a good bit there might be a reason to mention it...but he's not. I'm not sure why you would expect anyone to hear what you're saying and start really considering it. There's no reason to believe Crono has gotten weaker right now. a Crono decrease needs to be shown with results, not "oh he's a year
older, he's got to decline sometime". when you say that without any
evidence backing it, it's basically a meaningless comment. now if you say "hey, Crono underperformed against Falcon, Sonic > Crono confirmed", that's something totally else. mind you that's not what's happening here at all and Crono looks as good as ever.
