did you just call NSMB the biggest game of the year? when you haven't mentioned it prior? One of, rather...and what you mean I haven't mentioned it? I talked about NSMB as early as the Series Contest as a reason for SMB to possibly beat FF among other factors. Why anyone would ignore such a large game like NSMB is just mind boggling to me. Another note on Kirby: it's entirely possible that Kirby was
SSB/M-reliant in 2k2. However, I sincerely doubt that Kirby's boosts
since then are because of SSBM. Kirby's had four of his five
best-selling games come out since 2k2, including his very best-selling
two. I already brought this up, but that doesnt make it less true. I think SSB increased the exposure Kirby had, thus causing more people to buy his games, and now Kirby can ride (mostly) on the popularity of his own titles. Luigi is basically the main character of Superstar Saga. He gets more
screentime than Mario, the funniest jokes are related to him, and goes
solo twice in the game, while Mario never does. --- Do you really need me to bring out the Ovaltine?-Stripey12isback on why hes a war hero. |

Continuing from the last topic... The people who say SSB/M don't contribute to big Nintendo characters' strengths is ridiculous. There's no way you're going to convince me that people like Bowser/Luigi/Mario/Link/Ganon boosted more from stuff like NSMB and ZCE than they did from SSBM. I wouldn't say it's a huge boost, but it's definitely a boost. I could see someone like Mario boosting 2-3% from SSBM. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

Overall I have to say I'm shocked. I just cant believe Luigi has pulled
off this much of a thrashing on someone that has the background of
Zero. Now that my bracket is trashed, HM is gone, and guru is done for
I guess I have one prediction left to make. I hope Crono can pull this contest win off. Just to see him in the gauntlet from now on cuz he deserves it. But.. Bowser will beat Crono in Round 2. What have we seen from the votes thus far? Nintendo always outdoing what anyone could have hoped. I mean Luigi of all characters is friggin 7 percent higher then his x-stat last year against Zero? LUIGI! I mean this guy doesnt have any good qualities and would be thrashed by Bowser. I mean he got thrashed by Yoshi. YOSHI! Bowser as of last year was projected to get 45-46 on Crono. Crono goes down by the year and we can all agree a Nintendo boost is definetly there. Bowser has all the qualities of a winner this year. He will win the casual vote and the day vote thus will sink Crono's ship. I'm pretty happy I played it safe taking Kirby to win the four pack.
This match was a toss-up for me, I couldn't even decide who would make
it to the next round, at least Kirby was a lock. That being said, I've
missed all four arguable matches, so if the trend continues I'll miss

Considering that match very likely had SFF, I'm not sure how it's
only 37% against the strongest character in these contests. The idea
that Mario cannot get boosts from his big -- yes, folks, NSMB is a BIG
game -- games, then what in the world would it take for Mario to
increase? Nothing changes the opinion of these characters for people.
Characters don't even need a reason to increase or decrease from year
to year, so why it is so farfetched that Mario, Luigi, and Bowser
wouldn't benefit from the biggest Mario game since 2002 is beyond me. (Mario performed about the same against Crono two years in a row, so it's safe to say that Mario was about the same in 2K2-2K4.) Okay, I'm not saying anything about Mario/Bowser/Luigi, etc. having to increase with a new game. If NSMB doesn't do it, Super Mario Galaxy almost certainly will. I just find it fishy that not a single Nntendo/Square character has DECREASED in popularity for certain, except for Tidus, and many have increased. It doesn't seem logical for all of the growth to be attributed to new games... Nintendo and Squaresoft haven't exactly gotten more successful over the past 4 years. The site is just becoming more Nintendo/Square biased as time goes by. But, obviously there are many cases where a Nintendo/Square character did benefit a lot from a new game, but it's rather silly to say that every single instance of an increase is purely because of a new game. Now, I'm not saying that Mario & Friends didn't increase, nor am I saying that NSMB wouldn't cause it. And as for the argument that a new game brings new visitors to check out the FAQs, and thus it boosts that character...you must realize that most of those particular visitors will be gone by the next year. This has happened with quite a few characters (i.e. Jill Valentine), and we saw those characters decrease in popularity, but has it ever happened with a Nintendo/Square character? Nope, except for Tidus and perhaps those that were snubbed. The site has a portion of visitors that remain tightly-knit to Nintendo and Square, no matter how old their games get, as part of the site's visitors; then there's the OTHER portion of the site's visitors (perhaps in the minority among voters in GameFAQs contests), the more mainstream visitors, that come to check out the latest FAQs on the new mainstream games. Crono scored 46% or something on Super Mario last year. I really doubt
Bowser is going to boost up to Mario levels, though I welcome the idea

Square seems to be getting as much support as Nintendo, with the Ganon
vs Vince and Riku vs Yoshi match, so right now I'd lean towards Crono
winning. I suppose Crono's fanbase is slightly different than the KH
fanbase though, so his power may be diminishing. Anything is possible

Meh, saying Smurf "saw it coming" is giving him too much credit.
It's like giving HaRRicH credit for Kuja/Master Hand solely on the
basis that he thought MH could break the fodder line and beat Falco
Lombardi. Sure, he got the match right, but the logic (or lack thereof,
in Smurf's case) was totally wrong. Not to take anything away from HaRRicH getting the match right. It was just the outstanding example in my mind at the time. Better than Kuja > Kefka or saying Kuja will get 65+%! Also, to be fair, I said Falco would beat MH in a head-to-head match at least..... =P Seriously though, I put nowhere near the blind faith in SSB/M that Smurf does in Sonic -- I just find it better to not bet against it in most close matches (though I still got Vincent/Ganon right, whew). Yoshi is trash, utter, and complete trash in the SSB/M games. I have every reason to believe Luigi > Yoshi indirectly, yet Yoshi manages to rSFF Luigi, and win the match. That's because the Mario fanbase prefers him to Luigi, and it has nothing to do with SSB/M. Though I agree, I do also find Yoshi more fun to play as than Luigi. It's just that he sucks. As for Captain Falcon...give me 27% for him tomorrow. --- Z1mZum performed a hit and run on me in the Guru Contest. It still hurts to be rear-ended like that..... |

Crono's just a tad out of Bowser's league, in my opinion, especially
when you consider he might have overperformed on Snake in the first
place. He should get at least 45% though. If he doesn't, Samus had better watch out. --- As you wish. |

Alright, assuming a constant Ness and Crono (neither really has any
reason to drop or increase), and considering that Ness is probably
Falcon's floor we have... Crono with 74.25%. I'll lower that a bit since I assume Falcon's stronger than Ness, so probably around 72%. If Falcon gets above 30, Crono is so screwed. --- "My opinion matters more to me than yours does." - Ulti |
