That, and Tanner complimented Snake perfectly. Being a PS1 era action
character meant that just about anyone on this site who played anything
in the Driver series also was a Metal Gear Solid fan. If Mega Man or
Crono drew Tanner, he probably would have been on the level of Serious

Don't get me wrong, Tanner is a complete joke, but I knew who he was
before 2K4, and I can't say that about a lot of the cult fodder that

And people have a hard time believing that Tanner is just that weak. Going back to that whole "100% updates" thing, Snake didn't pull off any, but he came damn close. Tanner is in his entire own league of pitifulness, and I'm not sure if it could ever be equaled. That's why people have such a hard time taking it seriously. I mean, a character that Gordon Freeman could score 92% on????? --- Commit it to memory. |

I'm fairly certain that match was simply a fluke. hold it the next day
and he probably gets 10% or something. I refuse to believe you can suck

that the only time I've ever pity-voted against Snake was for Tanner

Hey, say what you will about Tanner, but he got NOMINATED into the
contest (even if the only reason he did was because Driv3r got released
during the nomination period) and got a higher seed than Duke Nukem and

This is a good time to bring up the fact that Samus/Yuri was also a huge fluke! Yuri is far
weaker than what that match implies...actually, if the Snake/Tanner SFF

Nah, the Resident Evil match showed that roughly 12% of the voters on
GameFAQs would vote Yuri over the cure for cancer and the other 88%

Heh, I just thought of something. What if Tanner made it back in and
showed that he was merely Ms. Pac Man-ish strength but did get
Playstation SFF. Then Tanner could be extrapolated to get 70% on

Well, people do talk about how Pac Man tends to underperform against
well-known characters and overperforms on characters that lack casual
knowledge. As a weaker Pac-Man clone, maybe she could upset someone

Mega Man/Ms. Pac-Man is one of those matches where I'm 99.9% sure it's
SFF and 100% sure it doesn't matter at all. Her power is being known,
but that's enough to clear out fodder. No way I take her to lose to
scrubs like Jade, Lenneth, and Alyx when half of GameFAQs don't even know who they are. --- Commit it to memory. |

Yeah, Alyx is just that damn bad...and it's a shame she got stuck
facing Croft, because I'd like to have seen what kind of blowout Samus
could have put up on her. Instead she gets all those votes from being

the idea of Lara being antivoted comes from 2k2 though. if you looked
at it, a whole bunch of characters seem to have gotten antivoted.
Aeris, the aforementioned Tidus, Mario.. you wouldn't expect those
characters to score nearly what they did. take away 2k2 and Lara hasn't
really had the chance to be antivoted. her only really bad match was

If Snake goes down before the final, I hope it's Squall to take him out. By the way, this match points to what some of us have been saying for a long time: The Devil Division is perfectly fine, and the Dream Division is a fraud. I know it's SFF and shouldn't be taken seriously, but still, there can't be all that much SFF in a match involving FF mains not named Cloud. --- That... was her final mission. And why is that? It's not like we've seen FF leads in action against
each other all the time. I don't see what's so hard to believe about
this match being riddled with SFF. Two FF leads who have games merely
two years apart. Squall holds nearly every intangible against Tidus
except recency and being on the PS2. And Squall has KH to counter that.

Oh, man, hearing some people try to do away with the Devil Division
being overrated or this being a clear sign toward a KH2 boost or
whatever is just funny. This is nothing more than the result of Tidus
getting weaker (SHOCK), Squall boosting a bit from KH2 (2005 levels

Regarding Zero/Kirby, the two things that never made sense to me
were Kirby being favored over Zero and Yoshi being favored over Dante. Dante is expected to get 52.15% on Luigi last year. Yoshi beat Luigi with 54.48% the previous year. That alone gives Yoshi a shot. Glad to see that people are coming to their senses on Zero/Kirby. Kirby has a good shot to win, but Zero deserves to be the favorite. Kirby got 45% on Squall in 2K4. Unless Squall increased significantly between 2K4 and 2K5, and Squall's 2K5 value is accurate, Kirby's ALREADY at 32% on BL in 2K4, enough to potentially beat Zero still. Then, the fact that Kirby should boosted at least a little (I doubt he's dropped), and Tidus' real strength is hidden behind SFF, we still can't make a conclusion. Though on Dante, as I said earlier I wouldn't be surprised to see Ryu overperform on him. I don't really think that would indicate weakness on Dante's part. of getting SFF (which is probably why people shot so low on his
percentage, they thought he couldn't do it because of the hate). That's
really all this match tells me. And that his chances of beating Snake aren't 0% as well. Not that his chances are particularly good, but there's at least a chance. I'm questioning just how much of an overperformance Snake can manage because of how close of a proximity they are now as compared with 2002. At the 11:25 mark, this match has 50730 votes. To compare with other matches at the same time: Samus/Nidoran F - 49552 Rikku/Lenneth - 48136 Peach/Daisy - 47659 Snake/Soma - 47475 Hmmm...These vote totals are a little too nice to be SFF... One thing that still sticks out like a sore thumb when relating Kirby
and Squall is Bomberman. Bomberman and Kirby were in the same fourpack
for 3 straight years, so it's interesting to see how they relate to
each other in each contest. Kirby (2002c) VS Bomberman (2002c) Kirby has a strength of 25.54. Bomberman has a strength of 23.01. Kirby wins with 54.95% of the vote! A win of 8,262 with 83,401 total votes cast. Kirby (2003c) VS Bomberman (2003c) Kirby has a strength of 26.34. Bomberman has a strength of 19.59. Kirby wins with 62.81% of the vote! A win of 21,683 with 84,611 total votes cast. Kirby (2004c) VS Bomberman (2004c) Kirby has a strength of 28.54. Bomberman has a strength of 22.36. Kirby wins with 60.83% of the vote! A win of 18,253 with 84,294 total votes cast. Now by all means, Kirby should have been increasing the gap between him and Bomberman each year. Yet he regressed against Bomberman in 2k4. I hardly believe that Bomberman himself boosted (more than Kirby in 2k4 at that). So I've always been reluctant to say that Kirby was probably underrated all along before 2k5. And I definitely wasn't a fan of using Kirby 2k5 and Squall 2k4 to justify Squall 2k5. Of course Squall/Bomberman could just be an anomaly, but I hardly doubt that Bomberman of all people would be one to cause anomalies. Just another take on the matter. Well, either Bomberman increased, Kirby decreased, or there was an
anomaly somewhere because Squall got almost exactly what Alucard got on
Bomberman in 2003, but did nearly 3% better on Kirby. I'd be more prone
to throw the blame on Bomberman myself because that match just sticks

To me, this match doesn't say anything about any type of new trend, any voter shift, any increase, how certain characters are looking or anything. It might be different if Squall was facing someone not from Square, but this is clearly a SFF match...along with a possible drop from Tidus and boost from KH2. Really hard to gather anything from this match other than Squall being stronger than Tidus by a great deal (we figured) this and being preferred by the fanbase. Not that his chances are particularly good, but there's at least a chance. I would agree. It's understandable why Squall over Snake would be deemed unlikely before the contest -- and even now -- but his chances are definitely above 0%. I'd be pretty shocked if he did beat Snake though.
