Solid Snake/Naked Snake is so completely different from Dark Link and Samus it isn't even funny. As he has his own personal story (better than Solid's IMO), his own game where he is the main character, and plays a role as an older man in previous MGS's. Ugh. I love MGS3, but for all practical purposes, Naked Snake = Solid Snake to me. They look exactly the same; literally the same. When two characters look exactly the same, act in the same way, speak the same...I'd think it natural to consider them the same. Yeah the ending blah blah blah who he really is; mgs3 is about The Boss and snake is sort of just there to be manipulated by the two awesome female characters in the game. I don't think there should be a contest where we have both Naked and Solid snake in at the same time. --- Revenge is a dish best served by Z1mZum in the 2k6 Series Guru Contest. |

Actually more of the point of it was to show Big Boss' background and
history, things that he's gone through in the past that lead him to act
the way he does later in his life. Just because a character looks the same doesn't mean they are the same. OH MAN SUB-ZERO!? FORGET THAT SCORPION WAS ALREADY HERE! OH MAN SHADOW?! I have nothing against MMX making it in, but how do you even know if
he's had enough noms to make it in? You guys are acting like we haven't
already SEEN Naked Snake in this contest, Ceej allowed him to be in, he
just gave him the name of Big Boss, which is why he needs to be

What I meant to say was that, similarly to Dark Link or Samus, he would get a bunch of votes that aren't really his to get. It's like allowing collections for a games contest. I can't see how anyone would approve of this. Then how could Naked put up 49%+ on Solid Snake himself on an IGN poll? Sure GameFAQs =/= IGN, but I don't think there's suddenly going to be a ton of people here to make that a match that close, to a 70-30 affair. People like Naked Snake because he's the hero of MGS3, not because of Solid Snake. Ah come on. First of all, Naked Snake - Solid Snake is a match where the distinction has to be made. Then how did he get so close? Beats me, but do you honestly think a gameFAQs poll would go similarly? It's an entirely different voting group. And if the Metal Gear fans were so aware of the series' story, they sure didn't show it when Big Boss was facing Auron. If Naked Snake would perform a lot better, and I'm sure he would, it would be because he looks like Snake. Why would Naked Snake only be capable of having a fanbase on IGN that
prefers him to Solid Snake, yet on GameFAQs, suddenly he can't even
come close to competing with him? It makes no sense at all. Yes we're
different sights, and yes matches would definitely go differently here
than there, but it proves that Naked Snake is liked in his own right,

the results are tabulated "secretly" and where, as Slow liked to put
it, every match is a barnburner. I question the validity of those

They're at least different colors, and I loathe the idea of Sub Zero in this contest; he deserves to be a complete failure. On gamefaqs I highly highly doubt Naked Snake having strength that did not almost entirely rest upon Solid Snake. Shadow is the villain for Sonic, Sub Zero is a separate character from Scorpion at the same time. Naked Snake is quite literally a proxy for Solid Snake in that he stands in for the traditional role of snake in that game. --- Revenge is a dish best served by Z1mZum in the 2k6 Series Guru Contest. |

Every match being close was probably just a result of the vote totals.
It wasn't very publicized and it was kind of hard to find if you
weren't looking for it O_o I mean, when you're probably only getting 5000+ votes, it's a lot easier to make anyone stay in the game --- ertyu and VeghEsther are truly proof that there is much about this world we still do not understand. |

It's also why any matches there probably shouldn't be taken too seriously though. Back when GameFAQs was getting those kind of totals, FF6 was almost preferred over FF7 --- ertyu and VeghEsther are truly proof that there is much about this world we still do not understand. |

Ever since MK3 Sub-Zero has stood apart from Scorpion in looks and
design. And thanks to his new "Shredder" design, he also happens to not
be ugly! There's a difference between two characters who happen to be 'clones' of one another with equal footing, and Solid/Naked Snake. Regardless of the storyline, chronologically Naked Snake is the clone of Solid Snake, not the other way around. Solid came first, Naked had to be retconned into existence. --- Commit it to memory. |

That's your best comeback, EC? Yes, I'm well aware not every
match is a barnburner -- and like n00b said, there's also the little
problem of having a teeny tiny sample size to work with. And how does
IGN combat the problem of cheating, if it is indeed legit? Too many potential problems from an unreliable source from a too small sample size from a community completely different from GameFAQs. Solid crushes Naked with 60%+. BOOK IT. --- Commit it to memory. |

Well you certainly made it seem like every match was a barnburner,
there's just as many blowouts as close matches there, as for the
votals, no one can really say how many they get. And if Solid put up
only 60% on Naked, that would pretty much prove that he's his own

Snake and Naked are almost identical in appearance. You'd have to be
colour blind to not tell the difference between Shadow/Sonic. Being painted a different color doesn't make you a different character. If you make a black cloud, that doesn't mean he's a unique character. 60%+ is a very low estimate, really.
That's Solid's absolute floor, assuming that everyone that played MGS3
was actually convinced to prefer Naked to Solid. In reality, that match would be ugly, and I'd prefer not to think how ugly. At least Raiden looked different from Solid, and look what happened to him... --- Commit it to memory. |

Naked is far more unique than Shadow is. Raiden was at the peak of his hate back then, so many people were
ridiculously pissed off that they had to play as that naked,
cartwheeling girly man. I don't think you can really draw a parrarel. I
would bet all my accounts and never come back to gamefaqs if Raiden

than looking like Solid, which should warrant him a spot in this

I'm sure Naked has his own fanbase indepedent from Solid's. That being
said, he still leeches a good amount of his popularity from Solid.
Ganondorf may outperform Tingle on Link, that doesn't mean he's not a

And besides, arguing this is pointless. Ceej has already set precedent
by not letting Mega Man X into the contest, and he's very different
from MM. Letting Naked in would just open the floodgates. Big Boss was

OK, EC, take a moment to imagine the match pic. You'd have a body shot of Solid Snake vs. a body shot of Naked Snake. So what happens then? Many people, people not necessarily experts in the series, are confused. People vote for the name which gets by FAR the most recognition anywhere: Solid Snake. Bear in mind that even though it's clear what Naked Snake's full codename is at first, because Zero tells you, it's not mentioned that much in the game. People just call him "Snake".
