Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 363

Fifteen minute rants should be reserved for characters as cool as the ones found in MGS1. MGS2 deserved no such rants, and the ones who deserved them in MGS3 got them.

Most bosses don't present a challenge with Thermal Goggles. They're cheap

The run I had when I completely forgot to fetch them was entertaining. Fear actually put up a fight

and the ones who deserved them in MGS3 got them.

The only one besides the Boss who got anything close to a rant was The Fury, and HE SURE DESERVED IT MIRITE?!

Yeah, The Fear is actually fairly difficult if you don't use the thermal goggles and you don't use the vomiting technique.

The End is just plain fun either way.

So since the match is so anticlimactic, statgoers have resorted to arguing about MGS bosses?

The Fury was bad-ass. Not necessarily as cool compared to lots of other MGS characters, but still very bad-ass.

Also, today's match makes me ask this: we see right now that The Boss has about 61% on Celes...

...but say Terra faced the MGS1 snub Meryl. If Terra > Celes and I wonder how Meryl compares to The Boss, would it have anybody thinking hard on it?

I'm actually kinda worried about Terra/Kerrigan, to tell the truth. I'd given Kerrigan a bit of a shot before, but if she actually gets rallied (unlike last time, lol), she could potentially put a scare into Terra.

Meh, I'm not worried about Terra losing. Kerrigan has to make up a 60/40 deficit to win, unless something about her match with Vincent was not legit.

Then who knows?
---
"...And then they made me their chief." - Captain Jack Sparrow
HaRRicH | Posted 9/16/2006 10:18:43 PM | message detail
She'd have to get alot more rallying than last time (which was, what, one site that had one topic get close to 100 votes over several days?) AND get her box-art pic to do that.

I'd still be skeptical if both happened -- they were in the same four-pack and it's predicted to be a 60-40 match...and Terra has all the intangables as far as GameFAQs goes. Without her more recognizable box-art and much more rallying, Kerrigan won't win.

Heroic Mario | Posted 9/16/2006 10:19:27 PM | message detail
There's not really a situation there where I think Kerrigan would benefit. Vincent overrating that division doesn't hurt either of them more than the other, Terra is still a nice sized gap away, and Kerrigan shouldn't really get the rallying necessary to change things up. It's a pretty significant gap from what I recall.

Terra / Kerrigan isn't a lock, but I don't care to debate a match between two weaklings like that. hopefully Terra wins, if not oh well, etc etc.

The only thing that worries me about Kerrigan is Vyse.

Him dropping so much last year doesn't make much sense to me. If Tifa overperformed on him due to bandwagoning, it wouldn't surprise me to find out that Vincent did the same to Kerrigan.

Suppose I'm still banking on FF6 being horrible contestwise. Which this match isn't making me feel badly over
---
We are thought, and reality, and concept, and the unimaginable
THEJackSparrow | Posted 9/16/2006 10:22:59 PM | message detail
Well, there's really not much to debate. They were in the same four pack last year, and Terra came out comfortably ahead. The only thing that could change things is a lot of StarCraft rallying or a Vincent/Kerrigan problem. Either way, there's no way to know for sure, so all we can do is wait for that one.

THEJackSparrow | Posted 9/16/2006 10:23:45 PM | message detail
Tifa didn't overperform on Vyse because of bandwagoning. It was probably more along the lines of RPG SFF, if anything was wrong.

Fodder having that dang tendency to fluctuate, though...eh, I'm probably getting too worried for nothing. But I'd been worried about it even before this match, and wasn't expecting for Boss to win by nearly as much.

Oh! And Turtle -- for the next month, your sig shall be:

Fodder having that dang tendency to fluctuate, though

People make a bigger deal out of this than is warranted. CATS was considered to be one of the most remarkably consistent characters around. And then he went face and got recognizable. We'll wait and see what happens to him.

A singular Metroid would whip Vyse with 70%...
