Man, this topic really slowed down after Kairi stole the match again.

I guess all the "Clairevoyant" people decided to go sit in a dark corner and cut themselves over an internet poll.

Looks like I've been missing out on a good match all day looking at the updater, but I don't think I've missed being on the board all day. I read the rest of Stats Topic 359 and have no desire to read the other two after that. I doubt I'll read anything new and I'll just get irritated by people being dogmatic about a close match, and Ulti being obnoxious about people being obnoxious when they're wrong.

I'll admit I was wrong about Kairi. It looks like she could be high level fodder or possibly even breach the line. It'll be very interesting to see how KHII affects the rest of the cast and the FF characters.

At the 17:35 mark, this match has 80095 votes. To compare with other matches at the same time:

Samus/Nidoran F - 84264
Ada/Jade - 72077
Rikku/Lenneth - 80286

So 110,000 looks likely.

Also, QUICK! PREDICTION PERCENT AFTER THIS MATCH!

I'll hazard a guess that the PP for all brackets is better than the BOP.

Though, you have to admit, even if us Claire supporters basis was on a 2002 match, it wasn't illogical to pick Claire simply because she's behind a few percent points.

I think the PP will be split pretty evenly considering this match felt like it could have been a toss up to some...Maybe give it 60% to Kairi.

But I mean...if Ada/Jade of all things was a trap...who really knows...

Even though I took Claire, I still took her after thinking about where Tidus-2k4 would place her and then knock her down a little assuming she dropped a bit like Jill did. It was more of not thinking Kairi had many fans and that Claire had the much higher range than actually believing Claire was at her 2k2 strength.

I think Kairi will have 60% of the brackets at the least, perhaps 65% or better. That 2 seed is awfully appealing when you don't know who to pick.

Ada's poor prediction rate really speaks for Kairi getting alot of bracket support. Especially since this is a 2/7 match.

Christ..... how many times do I have to say it? Kairi is WAY more recognizable than Claire is, and had a successful game this year, when Claire's last successful game was RE2. If anything, people should be surprised at how close it was.

...Arguing that Kairi is more recognizable than Claire is like arguing that Magus is more recognizable than John Madden. Your argument is very silly. Resident Evil 2 is far more popular than any Kingdom Hearts game.

I guess RE2 has better worldwide sales than KH, but it's not by anything massive -- and in terms of American sales, I was under the impression that KH obliterated it.
---
Commit it to memory.
MegatokyoEd | Posted 9/15/2006 4:05:22 PM | message detail
Resident Evil 2 - 5.82 million worldwide
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 - over 8.5 million worldwide right now. KH2 has sold 2.5 million units so KH sold better than RE2 worldwide and it's still selling.

RE2's sales are a lot more than just what it received from its initial PS1 release. Have you any idea how many incarnations of RE2 there are?

Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 - over 8.5 million worldwide right now. KH2 has sold 2.5 million units so KH sold better than RE2 worldwide and it's still selling.

Say what? KH1 has 5.21 and KH2 has 2.67. It might have 8.5M shipped, but certainly not 8.5M sold.

FFDragon | Posted 9/15/2006 4:13:59 PM | message detail
Kingdom Hearts PS2 Square 5.21
Kingdom Hearts II PS2 Square 2.67
Total = 7.88

Resident Evil 2 PS Capcom 5.82
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X PS2 2.05
Resident Evil: Code Veronica DC Capcom 1.14
Total = 9.01

That doesn't include the Dreamcast, Gamecube, N64, or PC versions of RE2 though. If you're going by sales figures, Claire >> Kairi

Match V: (1) Tifa Lockhart vs. (8) Ivy Valentine

Contest History

Tifa Lockhart

Summer 2005
Defeated Vyse, 78.07% - 21.93%
Defeated Luigi Mario, 53.36% - 46.64%
Lost to Sonic the Hedgehog, 43.60% - 56.40%
Ranked: 15th

Ivy Valentine

No Previous Contest Matches

Analysis:

Tifa’s first contest was last year and besides Vincent she was thought to be one of the strongest new characters. After destroying Vyse almost as bad as Cloud did and having an unexpected close match against Luigi she put up a respectable performance against Sonic and is among the near-elite. Ivy is from the Soul Calibur series. Even though most people on the board agreed that a Soul Calibur character should make it most were going with Nightmare.

This match is more for taking a breather from Kairi/Claire and getting ready for The Boss/Celes than it will be a match. Even if the site has switched towards Nintendo, Final Fantasy is still one of the most popular games on the site and is one of the biggest reasons why GameFAQs is so popular. Besides unless your name is Ryu fighting game characters are no where near the strength to try and take on the contest near-elites and even then Ryu’s 2k5 wasn’t his greatest. Also with the performance of Soul Calibur in the series contest things really don’t look good for Ivy.

I don’t think Tifa is strong enough to triple Ivy and I wouldn’t be surprised to see her fall below 70%. Fighting game characters may not be the strongest, but usually they aren’t the bottom of the barrel type characters.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Tifa Lockhart over Ivy Valentine

charmander6000’s Prediction: Tifa wins, 71.34% - 28.66%
