Aside from a few assorted crazies, I think most thought LoZ vs. FF would be close.

Please don't lynch me ff and zelda fanboys. >_>

This match is SO much more Ridley vs. Diablo than Mega Man vs. Mario Kart.

Ridley > Diablo to this day I will never understand... I never for a second believed MK would beat MM, but at least there was an argument for it.

I actually just underestimated Diablo. I had Ridley pegged about where he ended up; it was definitely lower, but wasn't way off. Diablo I didn't expect to be worth anything, sort of like a Kerrigan.

*still mad about picking Ridley to win the Devil Division instead of Diablo*

That pick alone -- and yes, I had Diablo be next in line to win it for me -- kept me from a ****in' perfect bracket. Even prizes, too, yes several people who only missed Kuja/MH got prizes...

y'know - all of you guys who are saying that Kairi had little to do with the main story of KHII must not have played the game for very long.........

KINGDOM HEARTS 2 SPOILERS!!!!!

..
..

.
.
.
.
.
.

for those of you who have played KH2, have you forgotten about the whole Namine/Kairi connection? the two characters were directly connected and the entire game revolved around that connection (as well as the connections between Roxas and Sora & between Riku and Ansem).
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
..

END SPOILERS

so, yeah. Kairi was very central to the game, even if she wasn't playable. in fact, i would compare her role in the KH series to the role of Aeris in FF7 (minus the playability). then, you factor in the massive recency of Kingdom Hearts as a whole; (evidenced by FOUR KH2 characters making this contest) as opposed to the last time Claire appeared in a game. RE: CV came out in 2000 and does not have the added benefits of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and a couple of movies that Jill has.

that's why i'm taking Kairi in the 55-58% range.

Yet most people could tell you Diablo would have beat the hell out of Kerrigan back then, too.

You might think that, but hindsight is 20/20. Keep in mind that everyone thought those rally characters last year were going to contest powerhouses. Most of the board would have overestimated Kerrigan to high hell had she not been against another board favorite (and one of the few who actually did well).

I honestly didn't think the diablo fanbase gave two ****s about diablo even though I predicted his spot correctly in the villain contest. Unforunately I made the assumption that starcraft fans gave two ****s about kerrigan. Obviously I was terribly wrong.

in all honesty, Kairi is much more central to KH2 than Zelda has been in any Zelda game (except maybe TP, but we'll see about that one.)

POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!

.
.
.
.
.

not only is Kairi the key (pardon the pun) to saving the universe, but the story is geared towards figuring out what Kairi's connection is with Namine and how Sora can use her help. it is more than a stereotypical "damsel in distress" story. plus, there's the romantic/friendship relationship between Sora and Kairi which is built up through the course of each game. Sora's goal throughout the whole series is finding his friend Kairi and it's much more touching than anything Link ever did for Zelda.
