Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 355

Jill Valentine would already, like, double Ness.

You're vastly underestimating Ness.

Not that I agree that Sheena will come close to Jill (she won't), but Ness isn't fodder.

Kratos is approximately Ness' strength.

What.

Jill Valentine would already, like, double Ness. Not happening.

No. I'm not falling for this again!

Series contest: Sonic gets over 70% on DMC. Metal Gear would likely beat Sonic.

Sonic would destroy MGS, and you know it!

and 1 has Vincent over Crono, but nobody has Vincent winning the male bracket.

Jesus christ...whoever this is is seriously stupid. Whoever beats Crono will also beat Megaman.

-=-

If you can see one Knuckles/Magus-style "OMGWTF NOBODY SAW THIS COMING" upset this year, what will it be?

I say PoP/Kirby.

Not necessarily. Mega Man was #2 last time (among people in the male bracket this year). All it takes is Crono dropping a little without Mega Man dropping for him to win. Of course, MM > Sonic > Crono is a hell of a lot more likely than MM > Vincent > Crono, but still.

Um, um...Riku over Yoshi? Maybe Yoshi is now below Luigi, Samus was more popular than anyone was giveng her credit for, and Riku boosted more from KH2 than anyone would've considered. Heh. Keep in mind the two biggest upsets of R1 last year were x-stats blunders.

200,000 was how much Dirge of Cerberus sold for August, which isn't that impressive, but it's above the 150,000 I was expecting.

So, does anyone think 200k is enough to give Vincent any kind of boost?

Well, that's a small fraction of the sales FFX-2 or DMC2 got, and those were much better games, so expect Vincent to get a proportionately smaller boost than Yuna or Dante got from those games.

For what it's worth, I think DoC was released much closer to contest-time than FFX-2 or DMC2...I'm not 100% on that, but it could be worth something. Also, DoC could do more for Vincent character-prominence-wise than FFX-2 or DMC2 did for Yuna or Dante.

That said, yeah, I still expect his boost to be smaller than theirs compared to his unadjusted value, and I don't know what to think compared to where he's at if he's over-rated last year.

That goes along nicely with the write-up I have planned for why PoP will take the four-pack.

Damn straight! Also the "Zero will double Luigi" argument is quite possibly the single worst I've ever seen.

It is worth something. Let's call it the Wind Waker effect. Or maybe the Driv3r effect.

...I totally should have waited another 15 posts until I posted that. I only read through Page 6 before realizing it was a joke, still it was a pretty bad one!

That was the point. It was funny because people thought it was serious despite it being a joke. It was obviously a joke from my first post calling Luigi fodder. Oh well, at least I got Haste to admit the possibility of Zero getting 60% on Luigi. <3 Haste.

Crono worries me if for nothing more than he's beaten Mario and Mario crushed Samus. You can't help but feel irksome if you need to start evaluating SFF to call matches, because you're just about automatically heading into guess filled territory.

therealmnm | Posted 9/8/2006 5:24:59 PM | message detail
Meh... I just can't forget the way Samus crushed Sonic in 2k4. Seeing how close Sonic, Mega Man, and Crono were last year, I just can't see Samus not being the favorite against any of them. People would be just hoping that she gets SFF'd by someone else. Mario opened a wound and everyone is trying to draw blood from her now for some reason...

for upsets that NOONE would see soming, i would say Riku over Yoshi and Dante, Kairi over Rikku and Sora over Snake. all that Kingdom Hearts 2 boosting nonsense that keeps these three possibilites barely in the realm of possibilities but so unlikely that no regulars here are taking any of those upsets.

Hmm... anyone remember how Yuna had some very odd spikes during her match with Ganondorf? Several people thought it might have been someone (ie, George Romero) field testing a cheating method in a match that wasn't in doubt. She might be a bit overrated due to that. Still, I don't think it's enough to put Chun-Li over Yuna.
