From: BlAcK TuRtLe GF/PW is probably my toughest choice right now. My head says go with Gordon, but then the little voice starts screaming the names Tina Armstrong, Sam Fisher and Max Payne..... I'm completely torn =( TuRtLe Sam Fisher and Payne would probably beat PW. GF/PW is definitely the toughest 1st round match to predict aside from Ganon/Vincent. If it were last year, I'd take Ganon by a slight amount since I actually think Samus SFF'd him being the superior character in terms of strength (Samus vs Mario is the only exception I guess). This year, most people think Vincent would have a boost in strength, which he problably does, but just the hype from TP gives the entire Zelda trio and game series a boost. Link gets a picture and trailer from TP, wins two times in a row never looking back vs Cloud in both polls. Zelda beats FF with no new installments even with FF getting AC, DoC, FF12 (in japan) and god knows how many other add-ons. My point is, Zelda is the superior series on this site so counting out the Ganon/Vincent match because GFNW concerns most of us here is ludicrous. The winner of that match could very well take that division and cause turmoil to any bracket. All Ganon needs is a set TP date and a picture/anything showing him in TP, and I think he ousts Vincent. Then TP comes out, and it's goodnight Sonic, the upset of the tournament. --- *~Swift~* 6th place - BSE Contest |

Like I said before, the bracket is fantastic in terms of difficulty,
but crappy in terms of the unwanted characters tha made it and for the

...why are people still hung up on thinking Phoenix Wright is popular
here? It's for the DS, a popular system, wonderful. So are a TON of
unpopular games. The platform doesn't stop people from being the most
abject of fodder. Tanner is centered on the PS2, the most popular
system here. The game isn't popular, the fad will be more or less meaningless, and PW will be bottom of the barrel fodder. If CATS were facing PW, the entire board would be all over that, and we know it. It's the concept of GFNW that keeps people from picking Gordon, and not much more. --- Commit it to memory. |

I'm taking Phoenix. Gordon Freeman has always risen (or fallen) to the level of his competition, and I don't think that's coincidence - I think it reflects the size of the PC fanbase, as some (Haste2?) already mentioned. This is the guy that lost to Sam Fisher, Max Payne, and Tina Armstrong, and I don't think one game has transformed him that much. I know I'd take Phoenix over Max and Tina in a heartbeat. Truthfully, I doubt PW has a chance. I'm actually guessing he'll get
doubled. Yet, I refuse to give Gordon Freeman the win. No matter who he
would have faced, I'm leaving him as the loser. Laugh if you will, but
I'm at least going to hope this match is close. At least then, everyone

Fodder on a popular system is one thing. I'm talking PW being total,
abject, bottom of the barrel fodder. What makes PW more popular than
Disgaea? They're both in almost the exact same boat (adored cult
classics, not enough copies made, getting a sequel brought over due to
mass outcry). Laharl is a bottom five character in 2k5, and I could
never bring myself to take Laharl over Gordon Freeman, even if I only
had the 2k4 stats to work off of (where Laharl is a smidge above GF,

If Squall really did underperform in 2k2 due to some weird MGS > FF8
SFF, that should be one of the easiest picks ever. You're basically
taking two things that Snake has overperformed on -- FF8 and KH -- and
hoping that adding them together gives Squall the win. --- Commit it to memory. |

Oh, and I would *never* take Phoenix over any of the characters GF has
lost to. I'd take Sam and Max (LOL) to brutalize him, and even Tina
should pull it out (she has kept up a stream of newer games y'know, I'd

I suppose Squall has about as much chance of beating Snake as Bowser
does of beating Crono. Seriously, you've got to convince me that
firstly, his 2k5 standing is completely legit, not a smidge of
overrating happening there. Then you've got to say KH2 is going to
boost him up over Snake. Then, you've got to bank on Snake not
overperforming on him in the slightest. It won't be in the sprite
round, Snake will be the MASSIVE favorite, and all the intangibles will
be in Snake's corner. ...so yeah. I guess it's not impossible, but... --- Commit it to memory. |

I have a question for all of you. Do you guys think that Sonic is a big
underachiever? I really think Sonic could've done better in a lot of
these contests but he always rolls up on a bad draw in the later
rounds. His contest losses look like this: Samus (Twice), Cloud, Mega Man. One of his matches with Samus was extremely close (lost by less than 50). And the match with Mega Man was pretty close too. --- Representing the South! Falcons, Braves, Hawks, Thrashers, Seminoles |
