I think you guys are underestimating Cortana a bit here.

Look, I'm a big Halo fan, probably moreso than most of you. Cortana isn't some tiny character that no Halo fan gives a **** about. She's talking in your ear almost the entire time and there are several cutscenes where you see her. Also, I have PDZ, and the game was awful. They ****ed it up so bad it might LOSE Jo some votes... Also, PDZ was on the 360, which is less owned than the Xbox here as it's a new console. ALSO, PDZ has all of something like 90 topics on its board. Clearly there's not much interest for it. Halo 2 has 500 topics, Halo 3 has 300, hell, Halo 1 was released in 2001 and most of its fans have moved on to the sequel and it still has like 60 topics on its board.

Jo is still the favourite, but I picked Cortana as an upset.

Phoenix Wright is easily comparable to characters like King of all Cosmos and CATS, both of which are projected to score over 55% on 2004 Gordon Freeman. On top of thinking his 2005 performance was a fluke (seriously, there's no way he has close matches with Kefka, Tommy Vercetti, and Ryu Hayabusa after HL2. It couldn't have boosted him that much), I believe HL2 hype has died significantly since then, so Gordon Freeman is likely back to his old fodderific self.

Nope. See polls like the Favorite Mario Character poll or the Favorite Sonic Character poll, where Yoshi and Knuckles did the best.

Jill being underrated in 2K4 is what I've been thinking, though, meaning Jill was still a mid-carder even at that time. If you take Jill 2K3 and measure Zero through Ryu H, suddenly Zero 2K5 is back up to his 2K4 value. Jill was on par with Luigi in 2K4, and if you think Samus was involved in SFF against Link that means Jill was -still- at about 27% in 2K3 just like in 2K2. So, dropping 5% in one year would seem rather odd. (problem is, I tend to think Samus/Link ended up legit for some crazy reason) And, RE4 doesn't hurt. So, if Jill didn't drop a whole lot, I think it's fair to assume Claire didn't. And, since you guys apparently think the likes of Pac-Man would beat Kairi, why not take Claire over Kairi?

I think alot of people are forgetting that Joanna Dark hasn't just been on the 360.

She has a very successful N64 game that will probably be the majority of her strength.

Especially on this site in it's current Nintendo form.

It's pretty obvious that there's a core PC fanbase on this site that makes Gordon Freeman get a good chunk of the vote no matter who he faces. I think it has little to do with how popular he has gotten. There's also the non-PC fanbase that would most likely never vote for him. I'm surprised I'm the only one who has brought this up...

When does Super Smash Brawl come out? Because I could see that seriously messing with who's strongest out of Snake/MM/Sonic/Crono, specifically if Sonic or MM are one of the two extra nonNintendo characters that Nintendo has hinted at being added to the game in addition to Snake.

(Obviously, this helps Snake and hurts Crono for sure, with Sonic and possibly MM being toss ups).

Also, is that list for the Guru contest...? If so count me in.

Before Half-Life 2, Gordon only had one game under his belt. Imagine Master Chief being weak as hell in a contest setting despite having a small, devoted fanbase. Now imagine everyone having to wait six years for Halo 2. You don't think he'd shoot up in popularity?

I don't think it's farfetched at all that Gordon could boost as much as much as he did from Half-Life 2.

Not only had it been his first game since 1998, but no one was actually playing Half-Life at the time for Half-Life. Mods like Counter-Strike had completely overshadowed the original Half-Life to the point where it is possible to play Counter-Strike and not even know of Half-Life. HL2 can be credited to putting the focus back on Gordon and the original Half-Life series.

Not that it really matters. Gordon at his absolute worst is easoly enough to dispatch Phoenix Wright. I would take the likes of Laharl and King of All Cosmos to 60-40 him easily.

I find it odd how most people find it a given now that Ganondorf will be facing Sonic and defeating him thanks to TP.

While I have little doubt that a post-TP Ganon would indeed defeat Sonic, I just don't think Ganon will get there.

Vincent performed significantly better against Crono than Ganondorf did on Samus. Unlike most people, however, I do believe that Samus would beat Crono comfortably, and SFF'd Ganus a bit, so I think Ganon would've beaten Vincent last year, but not by a whole lot.

Before Twilight Princess, however, Ganondorf will have nothing since last year. There is no reason to believe that right now, Ganondorf would be significantly stronger, if at all, compared to last year.

Vincent is quite a different story, though. Asides from Advent Children, which is a major hit on this site and has Vincent in a pretty awesome role, there is of course Dirge of Cerberus, which should at the very least grant Vincent some more exposure, if nothing else. Sadly, we don't have any polls regarding DoC (besides the most wanted august release which it won comfortably, but that was to be expected considering the competition).

It is of course #2 on the site right now (FAQ hits-wise), and it has a solid board community. Also, contrary to the critics, the user reviews have been mostly around 7-8 (with the not-so occasionally utter 2-3 score bashing), which is pretty satisfying.

Anyway, we should be looking at Advent Children. I know it's a movie and all, but that didn't stop it from beating Kingdom Hearts II (and I) in their respective polls. That's right. Over 55% of the site has watched AC by now, compared to around 45% for the KHs (barring slight evolutions since the polls were taken, of course).

Kingdom Hearts has shown to boost some characters pretty highly. And if you like to think that that's because influx rather than actual appearances in the game, then you have to give Vincent a full KH2 boost, which should also be more than enough to give him the win over Ganondorf.

I don't care about ZeldaFAQs, NintendoFAQs, Link's dominance or anything like that. We had all those things last year and that didn't stop Vincent from looking mightily impressive. And while I'm sure the dominance will continue, Vincent has a lot of things in his favour IMO, and should certainly be the favourite heading in to that match.

only skimmed over this topic.. but these matches that are bothering the hell out of me:

Kairi vs. Claire. creative said exactly what I'm thinking: I don't see Kairi being strong at all, but I just can't see Claire winning that match. DAMN YOU FEMALE BRACKET

Phoenix vs. Gordon. I know that Half-Life 2 came out, but I just can't get the names Tina Armstrong, Max Payne and Sam Fisher out of my head. then again, I can't see Phoenix winning a match either, so whatever. I hate this match.

Master Chief vs. Sub-Zero. I have no idea what to think about this match. when I saw it, I sat there for two minutes trying to think about it and just couldn't come up with any good conclusions. I know the vast majority will take the Chief, but I'm definitely considering the Subster.

Jill vs. Peach. it's an outdated match, but who wins, Peach or Ryu Hayabusa? and if you want to go one step farther, does Peach get 37% on Zero? Peach seems like the safe pick, but I might go with Jill for the win here.

Yoshi vs. Dante. this match probably drives me nuts more than any other. NintendoFAQs vs. the character that I think is stronger. no idea what to do here.

Kirby vs. Zero. I think Kirby is overrated, but by how much? I've got Zero for now and will probably stick with it.

Zelda vs. Aeris. blah blah nintendofaqs ff7faqs TPfaqs

characters that are wasted:

Marle - I don't think she'd be anything special, but I'm sure she could win most of those 4/5 matches.

Squall - got destroyed by Snake in 2k2. he's improved since, but that's mostly thanks to KH. Sora didn't exactly impress vs. Snake. I expect a beatdown here.

Leon Kennedy - could be anywhere, but it's not going to matter since he's up against Bowser.

Alucard - questionable/disappointing performance last year, but his questionable x-stat value won't get tested since he'll get ripped to pieces by Auron. kinda interesting to see Auron/Alucard after Ganon/Alucard a couple years ago.

snubs:

Knuckles / Shadow - we called it here. argh.

Fox / Raiden - why in the world is Captain Falcon in when Fox and Raiden aren't? very strange to me. maybe Ceej wanted new blood. Fox deserved another shot.

Magus / Frog - I'm not too bothered by these two not being in, but CT side characters always have crazy matches.
