message detail And who the hell would pick Ganon over Snake?

It's not like it's a foolish pick or anything.

Yes it is. That's like me saying Bowser could take down Sonic. Snake would have more of a chance at beating Sonic than Ganondorf even coming close to Snake.

Really? So you think Ganondorf is that much weaker than Bowser?

I'd say Bowser is a few % stronger than Ganon. I'd go with 52-47 match for Bowser between the two.

I'd take Bowser over Ganon right now. It's been some time since the Villains contest, and they weren't very far apart then anyway. And since then Bowser has had New SMB, which while perhaps not that big a deal, it's more than what Ganon's had.

Of course my picking Bowser could just be because Bowser is awesomely awesome.

Indirectly, I think they're equals. Ganondorf can come close to Snake if Bowser's already done it.

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I've got such a bad feeling about Bowser/Ganon, and yet I'll refuse to let myself pick Ganon unless that match is after TP. w00t bias picks

I think you'd pretty much have to assume that Zero would've taken out Solid **** back in 2K4.

Not point much in discussing it and we'd never know for sure, but I don't know if that's all that questionable.

But without Solid ****, Snake beating Zero that year seems reasonable, despite their respective performances on Mega Man. It wasn't a good year for Snake though so it's hard to say.

I blame Snake doing so bad on Mega Man on him appearing to get his face blasted in... <_<; And as I said before, I used that to hype up Zero > Snake, but I never would have actually taken that upset. Although 2k4 was definitely Snake's worst year, I definitely never thought he was actually that low. I was just enjoying kicking him while he was down, since I had to deal with Sonic being the "weak point" of the Noble Nine after 2k3... MAGUS > SONIC! THE X-STATS SAY SO!

Hurray for bias. Bowser has some of the best dialogue of any character.

I still think that if the contest took place after SMG's release, Bowser could equal Ganon.

That kind of assumes there won't be any Zelda > Mario SFF, though.

While the Zelda series SFF's Mario, it doesn't mean that it automatically holds true for every single matchup between the series. Bowser is much more established than Ganon and has had much more of a presence over the year. I don't think it would be farfetched to think that a good chunk of voters who like both series to have a preference for Bowser, even though they like the Zelda series more. I definitely don't see Ganon being the beneficiary of SFF against friggin' Bowser. If anything, there will be none or Bowser takes it. It takes more than just being from a more popular game/series to take SFF...

Ocelot pretty much did what he was expected to do in the VC...some people floated Ocelot > Bowser around, but that was due to the sentiment that Ocelot would be stronger than Liquid and Liquid's fraudulent ranking in 2k4.

If Ocelot were to come back with a high seed after Ocelot/Pac-Man, that would be something.

Speaking of hype, the idea of it making a noticable difference will be put to the test this year with Snake; I'm interested in seeing him after the SSBB trailer. Link 2k4 and SSB in 2k6 suggest that hype might make a difference; Snake's the one who's gonna prove it or disprove it this year.

If we are to assume Snake boosts as much from the SSBB trailer as Link did from 2k3 to 2k4 (the implication being that the TP trailer was the boost giver), he beats Mega Man.

I guess we'll see, LOL!

The trailer was out before the Sonic match though, and based on that Sonic's poised to not only be the number five series, but the #5 with absolute ease. Something's screwy there, although after thinking about it I'm inclined to place the blame on Super Mario Bros/Final Fantasy rather than SMB/SSB.

I'd say the whole match was flukish...if only because looking at the end results, Mario is worth a whopping 46% on Zelda. Zelda, which has in virtually every other setting whalloped Mario into the ground, whose main character is worth more than 60-40 on Mario *before* SFF, letting Mario get so close is...odd, to say the very least. Maybe it was ultra -badass Mario v. nose-picking Ashe or maybe it was just a random fluke...but as much as Mario deserves it, I just don't think that's what he's worth.

Karma Hunter | Posted 8/25/2006 11:00:29 PM | message detail
Well, I should say I *doubt* that's what he's worth. For all we know it's completely legit.

But something screwed up down the line, as I'd never take Sonic to be so high compared to everything else.

swirIdude | Posted 8/25/2006 11:12:04 PM | message detail
Well I'd hardly consider Series X-Stats reliable, considering the number of SFF situations. But more importantly, series are a completely different animal. People may like Link more than Mario as a character, but if they loved many games in the Mario series more than Zelda games, they can vote Mario, thus increasing the strength of the Mario series. It's not too hard to believe, is it?

My math suggests Ganondorf is approx. 35% on BL(measuring from Kefka/Diablo and Auron from 2K4 after adjusting Sephiroth up). So, that leaves quite a bit of room for Bowser to be stronger than Ganondorf. I think Bowser's stronger, though I'm far from certain.

If anything, there will be none or Bowser [takes the SFF against Ganondorf].
I've theorized that Link isn't as strong as Mario SFF-wise...see Samus/Link as opposed to Samus/Mario. Well, okay, that seems obvious. The theory is that Link gets extra non-Nintendo votes that Mario gets (like somebody mentioned earlier with Samus), and Mario is still more popular among Nintendo fans. So, if that's the case, Ganondorf would likely get SFFed by Bowser.

Yeah, and I agree that SMB/FF was a fluke. I think FF had a (relatively) large change in popularity going from pictures that'll remind people of FFX-2 to pictures that'll make people instantly think of FF7 strongly...

Another possibility might be SSB/SMB rSFF. I don't know. It doesn't seem right, but, hey, who knows? One thing I can guarantee...SMB would get more than 68% against Sonic if they faced each other. :p
