Like swirl was saying, unless you think SMB would be worth 40% or less
on LoZ (oh, yes, that's -so- likely) you can't deny that Mario is
stronger compared to his games than Link is. I think that's
understandable...we're talking a fat plumber vs. a magic-using

People seem to want to write off Ganon for the sake of just doing so...
I mean yeah, doing better on the same opponent doesn't neccesarily mean
he's stronger, and it's not even totally my basis for believing that he
is, but everyone seems to agree Samus SFF'd Ganon at least just a
little bit, and I believe Samus should be higher than Mario in the
x-stats, or is at least stronger on a common non-nintendo opponent, it

And Magus 2k5 is overrated somewhere in the whole mess...I'm just
not sure if it's him overperforming, Knuckles overperforming, or
Vincent overperforming that does it. You named all the possible overperformances but the one I endorse in Squall? You make me cry. Squall's (and Knuckles and Magus should they get in) totally gonna fall on his face this year. --- Z1mZum whooped me so bad in the Guru Contest that the next Lopen wannabe is gonna feel it. |

I very, very much doubt a FF8 character overperforming on an FF7 character...but if you want to do that, hey, your choice. --- Commit it to memory. |

I'd take Squall to overperform on any FF7 character that isn't Cloud or
Sephiroth, I'd take Snake to do the same. Hell, maybe even Vivi or
Auron. (no, I'd never consider Vivi to win against any of em) --- Z1mZum whooped me so bad in the Guru Contest that the next Lopen wannabe is gonna feel it. |

I'd say the whole match was flukish...if only because looking at the
end results, Mario is worth a whopping 46% on Zelda. Zelda, which has
in virtually every other setting whalloped Mario into the ground, whose
main character is worth more than 60-40 on Mario *before* SFF, letting
Mario get so close is...odd, to say the very least. Maybe it was ultra
-badass Mario v. nose-picking Ashe or maybe it was just a random
fluke...but as much as Mario deserves it, I just don't think that's
what he's worth. Never touched on that, but nah I don't think Mario's performance on FF was a fluke at all, especially seeing that Zelda beat Final Fantasy. I think if anything benefitted from being a series as a whole it would be Mario. Due to the SFF nature of the games contest, we underestimate how popular the Mario games are by themselves. SMB3 and SM64 are probably beasts themselves (SM64 got the worst possible matchup it could receive). SMW is a beast in its own right. Then you have the universally loved original SMB which probably would have beaten quite a few games in its own right. Throw in SMB2, SMW2, SMS, the handhelds, and you have a monster of a series. Let's not mention the possibility of spinoffs possibly playing a factor (Mario RPGs, etc.) Final Fantasy may have the benefit of having the single most popular game on this site, and beasts like FFVI and FFX, but a lot of people don't like the entire series like they do for Mario. I know I didn't exactly endorse this at first, but thinking about it... it makes sense. On the other hand, there could have been a concentrated effort to make SMB look good seeing how everyone probably thought FF would destroy it. Everyone is pretty much a SMB fan at heart, so perhaps a lot of people were enticed to make SMB look good going out. I'll list my preliminary tough to decide matches. Ada v. Jade (Who the hell is Jade) Kairi v. Claire Redfield The Boss v. Celes (who's Celes, probably some RPG I didn't play) KOS-MOS v. Amy Rose Joanna Dark v. Cortana (who the hell is Cortana?) Riku v. Yoshi (I'll take Yoshi though) WTF GFNW is against PW, damn it Ceej Ganon v. VV Luigi v. Snake didn't get challenged AT ALL. Damn. He's got a free pass to Mega Man (who has a free pass to the Final Four). A lot of waste in this bracket, but it looks like the Battle Royale could be awesome. Is that like our 'Gauntlet' idea? Ceej steals from us again LOLZ --- Commit it to memory. |

2nd round Jill v. Peach Yoshi (Riku) v. Dante Kirby v. Luigi Not that tough. 3rd round Zelda v. Aeris (I'll take Zelda anyday) Yuna v. Chun Li 4th Round Maybe Sonic v. Crono 5th Round Mega Man v. Crono (sonic) Finale Mega Man (Sonic/Crono) v. Samus Not a tough bracket IMO. Females make it tougher, and the Luigi/Zero/Kirby thing should spring nice debates. I don't get the battle royal thing, if I have MM>Samus in the final,
why does Samus still get to participate? Will places be determined by
X-Stats (lol) or overall victories, including the Male/Female Final. So far I got Link, Cloud, Seph, Mario, MM, Samus in that order, but if it's X-stats based for some reason, Samus leapfrogs MM and Mario. Also, Squall, VV, Bowser, and Ganon definitely got wasted. --- Z1mZum owned me in the guru contest (by two points!). Damn you Z1mZum! |

Oh, should have read the rules...the Battle Royale could conceivably
*really* screw over some characters...like, if Sonic or Crono makes it
into the Royale, I'd take him to be in fifth place despite the fact

Hurray for my being wrong! We get the bracket on Saturday, of all days, and we only have 3 weeks to predict! The Battle Royale is definitely interesting...it starts with 6 characters getting votes all at once. So, if Sonic or Mega Man takes the male half, I think Samus is going out first. If Crono makes it there...I don't know who to pick to go out first, since both Crono and Samus will probably lose gobs of support for their fellow Nintendo/Square friends. The most hilarious match has to be Peach vs. Daisy...oh, the slaughter. (too bad Ms. Pac-Man didn't make it) I think Daisy only made it because nominators couldn't think of any female characters. Heck, maybe Sephiroth could upset Cloud when we get down to Link/Cloud/Sephiroth. :p --- "Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. It could be fun! So...what is a party?" KingBartz first impressions - Male bracket Bold is for the easy wins (1)Solid Snake (8)Soma Cruz easy first round. Soma is easily the strongest eight seed, however (4)Squall (5)Tidus Tidus will be my upset special this time around. (3)Riku (6)Yoshi This match looks fairly interesting. I think Yoshi might have the slight advantage. (2)Dante (7)Ryu Hayabusa Dante gets a first round by, it seems. (1)Sora (8)Tingle lol low votals. I wouldn't vote in this match >_> (4)Pheonix Wright (5)Gordon Freeman YES ****ING YES! this will be the match to predict this round, as well as the end of the world? We'll find out.
