In the last two years, Pac-Man has been a very low seed. I'd be very

But it all goes back to me not thinking that Mega Man all of a
sudden beats Zero worse this year, which I don't buy. I know they
aren't joined at the hip, but with the voter shift, Zero really didn't
have a reason to decrease, looking at the characters that ended up
increasing... Mega Man didn't do too much increasing himself. I think he ended up 0.07% higher in 2005 than his static value that was given in 2004. Zero decreasing could go back to that SFF with Mario, which I find completely understandable to an extent. I don't have much problem accepting that he may be a percentage point or two higher than what his value indicates in the current stats, but I have a hard time swallowing him being up there with Squall, or at least at that particular value. That makes him about a percent stronger than he's ever been in a contest, and he has remained rather consistent looking back through the years. If you do adjust Zero and make him back to being equal to the previous year, it does meet up well with Mega Man/Zero in 2004. Putting him on level with Squall makes Zero perform much better than he did in 2004 though, which is something I wouldn't buy. That would put him at 45.32% on Mega Man as opposed to 43.99%. I didn't say I'd put Zero at Squall's exact x-stat value. I'm simply
saying that Zero is on Squall's level and the two would probably have a
close match (with Squall being the favorite most likely). It just seems
like there's a notion that Zero can't compete
with any of the near elites all of a sudden, which I don't buy at all.
I'm not arguing exact x-stat values since those wouldn't really matter

I don't think Zero is suddenly incapable of standing up to the
near-elites or anything. I'm not entirely sure why, but I have these
strange opinions on matches he would have with certain characters. I
think it's a foregone conclusion that he beats Knuckles and Dante, but
I would find myself taking Luigi over him in a match, even though he
would have
to be the favorite. I wouldn't take him over Zelda or Ganon or even
potentially even Tifa, but I would take him over Kirby, even though the
pink puffball is above all three of them. ... Anyway, I would say Zero is closer to competing with the near-elites than he losing to the mid-carders. Well, I don't see him having a problem at all with Zelda and Tifa. If I
had to put a cut-off line for him, I'd put him under Squall (although I
still would be obligated to take him in that matchup). I agree that he
probably wouldn't beat Ganon, but Ganon isn't as low as the stats put
him in the first place. I definitely don't buy all this Zelda >=
Ganon thing that people are throwing around. I'd bring Ganon and Auron up in the stats myself. And why are we saying whether or not Zero competes with the near-elites? I definitely don't buy all this Zelda >= Ganon thing that people are throwing around. I completely agree. Zelda beating Ganon has never once even crossed my mind, even through all the debate. Ganon and Auron up in the stats myself. KH2 and TP render most of that moot though, and I think that Tifa will probably get the biggest boost out of Advent Children. Also, I just had a WONDERFUL thought! Ganon > Crono on the day TP comes out, and Zelda > Samus the day after! It'll be the greatest contest moment since Mario > Cloud! It's just a shame we won't get to see Ganon > Link after that... --- Pity for the Gurus is treason to Z1mZum. |

Leonhart: I think this is a better way to do it: The following is a list of character who have on lost to the Noble Nine and the number of matches they have won outside of it (Notables added.), ranked by my judgment. Bowser: 9 (Ness, Yoshi, Ocelot, Chun-Li, Ryu, Kirby) Aeris: 4 (Sora, Master Chief) Zero: 5 (Scorpion, Protoman, Vercetti, Hayabusa, Lloyd Irving) Zelda: 2 (Lara Croft, Vivi) Frog: 3 (Liquid Snake, Master Chief, Riku) Fox McCloud: 1 (Pikachu) Ken Masters: 0 Then are their Noble Nine losses, again as ranked by my judgment: *matches indicate questionable accuracy) Bowser: 4 (30% on Cloud, 29% on Mario*, 40% on Sephiroth*, 49% on Snake) Zero: 3 (47% on Sonic, 44% on Mega Man, 37% on Mario) Aeris: 2 (43% on Snake, 47% on Sonic) Zelda: 2 (40% on Mega Man, 46% on Snake) Ken Masters: 2 (35% on Samus, 31% on Sonic) Frog: 2 (49% on Snake*, 30% on Samus) Fox: 2 (25% on Cloud, 18% on Link*) None of this means anything. Mega Man...is just scrap compared to Crono. :( Crono 51.35% 53283 Mega Man 48.65% 50479 TOTAL VOTES 103762 I don't know how any individual can construe that difference (51.4/48.6 or 2800 votes as impossible to climb. Given the votal addition, which I bank on not favoring Crono. It'd be MM's last real chance to win it if we exclude the big 4 males anyway. Post-SSBB, Snake's going to be above him. It's a pretty good chance. I also highly doubt your oracling abilities, so I'm going to go ahead and say that there's no way you can foresee new releases/voter shifts/addition to the voting base and etc. --- Poker is living proof that men are the irrational sex. |

Man the stats topic has gone to hell in my short absence! Dante takes
out Zero without even breaking a sweat! You know it to be true, don't
even bother arguing, you're only be fighting yourself anyway. As for Zelda/Ganon, I'd actually love to see a Zelda/Link match-up before we see any kind of Ganon/Zelda match-up, just because I think Zelda would perform better on Link, but Ganon would still beat Zelda straight-up. It would be fun as hell to see that happen with a Zelda/Ganon match-up the next year. You know, Link beating Ganon that bad wasn't all Ganon's
leeching. The "trailer seen around the world" had to have been in the
minds of tons of Zelda fans. Seeing that picture ripped straight from
the trailer probably played an influence in that match as well. I don't
think Link beats Ganon as bad if they have a rematch today. I
also think Link would have beaten Zelda just as bad had it been her in

I would agree with Leonhart. It's still an ugly beating any time you
put those two up against each other. Ganon's starting to do some things
to separate himself a bit with the last couple of Zelda games, but he's
