XIII, especially, seems convinced that CJayC is actually "a masochist who enjoys the hate", which is the only possible reason Midgar Zolom could be excluded, as he is obviously a legitamate character we should all seriously consider and Ceej is screwing us all over by ignoring what the people want.

Yep, I am sure Ceej is kept awake lying in bed at night worrying about hurting the feelings of a couple noob fanboys and their bandwagoning followers over a couple of ham n egger joke noms.

Get a life kiddies! :)

King of all Cosmos...LOL forgot about that fodder...

May as well add Aiai, HK47, Kerrigan and Bomberman to that and make it a 12 pack...

Hey, HK-47's not that weak! He's stronger than Terra and Zidane, and KotOR 2 has doubtless added to his popularity!

Anybody have a list of possible matches where they know who they will pick if the match happens to occur?

I've vowed to...

Take Aeris over Tifa.
Take Aeris over Zelda.

All I have so far :(

Of all the 8 seeds last year, Jay Solano would have made a more enjoyable entrant than Joanna Dark, Yuri, Jin Kazama, and Conker. He would have also made more entertaining matches than Manny Calavera and Cecil, but Manny has his own rally to get in and we weren't sure just how weak Cecil would be, being Final Fantasy and all. Even with a 32-character limit this year, I'm sure Jay would be a better entrant than some of the crap that will inevitably get shoveled through.

Odd...Manny was supposed to be those "It'd be entertaining just to see him in the contest, even if he gets blown out" characters, too. Wow, turns out it wasn't entertaining, huh? Yeah, getting the worst kind of fodder in this contest generally isn't.

But whatever, think what you guys want. Intentionally getting one of the least popular things you can find is counterintuitive to what this contest is about, and that's why CJayC wants nothing to do with him.

It WAS interesting...it wasn't long after it started, but it was -- between the comparisons of him with Guybrush and comparisons of him with Tanner, not to mention him being a new character and we were desperately looking to see how Solid's road to the Final Four would go, I think he was worth the 8-seed for one contest.

Just like every bad fodder character we get that's just supposed to be in for the "entertainment value."

Was he? I didn't see a single Manny rally topic that entire off-season. Once CJayC released the bracket, I heard a bunch of "omg Shake" and "Shake's gonna go crazy!" Only then did I realize there must have been some rally effort. Jay Solano is different. Not only is he also one of the "It'd be entertaining just to see him in the contest, even if he gets blown out" characters, but he's also the product of a year-long effort, and he actually has a purpose other than just making the contest. Jay is a much bigger deal than Manny. He might not be to you, but he is to the ~150 people that vowed to nominate him.

Right, and Jay would be just as interesting or moreso than many who go through those matches. Obviously the blow-out matches can't be exciting all day, but nobody's asking that either -- it'd make for a more fun first few minutes, and I would probably guess Jay would go down all day after the board vote...which, again, would be more fun to see than some of the blow-outs we see already.

I agree about his purpose of being in the contest though: in that respect, CJay doesn't need to let him in. At the same time though, he's also one of the most requested characters that meet the requirements -- no matter his strength, I would hope that he would be accepted into the contest based on that, even if it was at the expense of CATS.

In a 64+ entrant contest where the final winner is almost guaranteed every year, I'll take any bit of extra entertainment I can get. Obviously, I wouldn't give Jay Solano a spot in favor of Knuckles or Donkey Kong, but I'd kick Jin or Joanna out in a second.

That's a shame. He's probable one of the best new characters this gen. And the game itself was amazing. I loved how every character had a very distinct personality. You could easily identify any character just from their dialogue. Eh, anyway, it would be interesting to see how well he does.

Keep in mind that Jay Solano's match would take the place of an elite vs non-elite blowout. Even if Jay Solano can only keep it interesting for 15 minutes, it's still better than a match that's boring from start to finish. At least some people will get some entertainment out of Mega Man breaking 98 against Jay Solano while no one really cares about a match where Crono triples Sam Fisher

If I were a betting man, I'd bet for Solano to finish at least one percent ahead of Tanner. Like I said before, with a comical picture and a last name, Jay at least has something to set him apart. Tanner was the most generic "realistic human" character in contest history, and he was up against the "realistic human" character the gaming industry loves most. It was a recipe for history of the most dubious kind.

I don't think Jay can muster the 5k or so votes that Tanner got, and if this contest continues the trend of insanely high vote totals, then yes, I believe Jay Solano will be a resounding success.

And I agree with TRE here. The 8 seed is going to get destroyed anyway. Might as well make it somewhat entertaining.

DS 6.38% 1343
PC 15.32% 3224
PlayStation 2 16.46% 3464
PlayStation 3 10.48% 2205
Wii 32.19% 6773
Xbox 360 14.04% 2953
None of the above 5.12% 1078
TOTAL VOTES 21040

I'm not surprised that Wii is destroying everything, but I thought the DS would be doing better. Must be SFF.

What if Vincen tmisses the contest? He's not exactly a mid-carder yet he'd barely make it through if he does just as well in nominations as last year.

Then again, if he DOES make it as a 7-8 seed agaisnt soemone he looks like he could beat... Could you imagine people, reasonable people, losing their brackets on round 1?

"Would anyone actually take Kirby over Vincent?"

I think on and off the boards it'd be really split. Most of the people in here don't believe Kirby was legit last year, but that doesn't mean everyone thinks that's the case. Heck, most people don't even think about it, even on this here contest board. Also, for every person calling Kirby out now there was a person calling Vincent out last year. I'm sure there are plenty of people who think he was just folling in the footsteps of Magus and Frog. I think all told, it'd be awfully close to 50/50 for the over-all picks, too.

Umm, last year ceej didn't tell people to not nominate Link and Mario, where you think those Nintendrones are going to stick their two extra male nominations?

Besides, I said Kirby 2, Vincent 7. Kirby can pull that off easy.

This is the only thing that gives me the hope that I will even see him this year. With the new nomination system if Ceej hadn't said that I wouldn't believe he has a chance of returning, not even w/ DoC right on the horizon. Call be a pessimist, but I found it somewhat fluskish he made it last year alongside Tifa.

And exactly which male Nintendo lead has a new game worth speaking of? No one else is stealing his thunder, and it's already proven he has a bigger spot in the collective Nintendo heart than anyone except the Zelda trio, Mario and Bowser, and Samus. Only two of those are in contention with him. I think he can split a MASSIVE two way pie three ways and still look pretty damn good. Everyone below that isn't going to get nearly the same number of bonus noms.
