In fact, we may already have on in Toadette, especially if she's round 1 fodder for Samus or Zelda.

Unless she gets SFFed into the ground, there's no way Toadette comes close to Tanner's level of crappiness. Just by virtue of her name and looking like Toad, she's got ten times as much going for her as Tanner did. I'd easily take her over fodder like Ryo Hazuki or Guybrush.

Jay Solano not getting in is perfectly fine by me. Nothing good at all comes from seeing him in a contest and taking up a spot.

Nothing good except fun... which is, of couse, the whole point of the contest.

Except there's none of that to be had either. Quite frankly, Snake/Tanner was ridiculously boring, as are most 90%+ blowouts.

but to discount Solano despite him meeting all the requirements is absolutely ridiculous.

Except having any sort of popularity to speak of in a popularity contest. He is a joke, despite "meeting all the requirements." Nobody is nominating him because he's a legitimate character. People are nominating him in hopes they can get him in on technicalities and loopholes.

I'm the opposite of XIII. I'm fine with CJayC disqualifying jokes like Jay Solano, but I wish he would allow some non-character sort of things. I'd be especially curious how Mass Carriers would do, though things like Nidoran F and Midgar Zolom are obviously jokes.

Considering the most likely candadates to be the four 1 seeds on the Male side of the bracket, the 1/8 match is going to be a ridiculously boring, anyways. If the 8 seed is Jay Solano, at least some people will get some entertainment out of the match. And if nothing else, whiners about Jay Solano losing will be virutally non-existant (although it may by counter acted a bit by the flood of "Who is Jay Solano?" topic.)

90% + blowouts are good. I've got a high number fetish, that's why I loved this past contest. >_>

People are nominating him in hopes they can get him in on technicalities and loopholes.

Explain to me what the technicalities or loopholes are. He's a character...in a game. He originates in said game. He's not a "generic enemy" like the Zolom, and so if he gets enough nominations to get into a contest, he should get in. Full stop.

Thinking about it, Solano has more claim to be in this contest than Link. There's a different Link for every Zelda game, but there's only one Solano.

So, at what point do matches become entertaining? Once they're closer than 85%? 80%? 70%? 60%? RE vs. SH was far more interesting than Madden vs. SH would've been, if only because we got to see a non-noble niner break 100K votes/85% for the first time. It's not very easy to give a one seed a good match. I'd rather see Snake vs. Solano in the the first round than, say, Snake vs. Knuckles.

If CJayC won't separate friggin X from Mega Man, he's not splitting the Links.

Though that gives me an idea. We should nominate the other colored Links from Four Swords and see how they do. Would Red Link still be able to beat Mario, or would Mario SCF him?

That's probably why he doesn't want X in the contest. Technically, every Link is different, to the same degree that every Megaman is different. If you split one, you have to split the other... and as a result, you get something like five Links. What kind of contest would that give?

Fiction. Make it "Wind Waker Link" and I might consider it. Or one of the Gameboy-exclusive LoZs.

Oh, don't worrry. I wasn't saying that Link /should/ be split, just that there are dozens of Links and only one Solano, making Link almost similar to the Midgar Zolom.

Keep in mind that I really really want Jay to make it in.

However, if CJay is really aiming for the sixty-four most popular characters, he could rather-easily make a bracket where no character would dip below 20%. I don't think CJay's goal is actually that though and I'm sure he still wants the contest to have some fun between the close matches and everybody having some characters they can get behind...and Phoenix Wright is a good choice for characters to get behind -- he's not a joke character, just a board fad that'd be very weak. He's also a new character, and I enjoy seeing new entries in 1/8-seed matches more than the same losers year after year (Ryo Hazuki, anybody? I know he beat Guybrush before, but he still served to do nothing). At least with CATS, we saw a change when he got a much more recognizable picture so that spiced him up...and he's the traditional joke character, so maybe one more contest with him.

Those two are the only two I would like to see over Jay if he has to be snubbed as far as this matter goes, and even then I would rather see Jay in than either of those two.

That sounds impossible to me. It would take an SFF-less bracket and, more importantly, 62 characters who are legitimately strong enough to break 20% on Link/Cloud.

Not necessarily. If you have a character that's at 18% on Link fight a character that's at 23% on Link, and then have said 23% fight Link, no character ever fell below 20%, although the 18% character would had he fought Link.

Eh, I'm just making a point for the sake of making it. I'm not even sure if that's the best kind of bracket anyway. I really am with the crowd that says "what's the difference between a 80-20 and 70-30 blowout". Though I don't like recurring super fodder with the exception of CATS. (he's like tradition!)

I really do think CATS could beat Gordon Freeman. The reasoning is simple... "do I think Ansem would have any trouble taking GF out? Nope, I don't. I'd have Ansem winning by at least as much as Max Payne did.

Like I said, I don't trust his 2005 X-Stats value for a second. So yeah, for that 4-Pack I'd take CATS > Gordon Freeman. The only thing I'm pretty sure of is GF beating PW though... and even that I'm not totally sure of... what with that GFNW thing... why do you people keep putting GF in winnable matches!?

Of all the 8 seeds last year, Jay Solano would have made a more enjoyable entrant than Joanna Dark, Yuri, Jin Kazama, and Conker. He would have also made more entertaining matches than Manny Calavera and Cecil, but Manny has his own rally to get in and we weren't sure just how weak Cecil would be, being Final Fantasy and all. Even with a 32-character limit this year, I'm sure Jay would be a better entrant than some of the crap that will inevitably get shoveled through.

why do you people keep putting GF in winnable matches!?

Freeman has only been the seeding underdog once. Someday he's gonna get an overseeded opponent. I mean, if we keep on getting middle seeds like KoaC or Kerrigan, someday he's going to face one of these. And win.

Provided we get a regular bracket format sometime, which is not for this year.
