How about if the FFVII remake was made for all THREE major systems?! AS

the Wii? " Doesn't matter. this is a site where the voters favor FF7 over everything but the culmination of LoZ (LoZ Series OR Link). If FF7 faces anything but the combined might of all Zelda games it wins (within reason). I think if there was a FF7 remake out NOW LoZ would have lost the finals with a whimper and SMB would have been in danger of a doubling. FFVII would be huge. Personally, I think the game is overhyped to hell. Its a good RPG dont get me wrong, but the story isnt even the best in the FF franchise, and the gameplay, while better than later FF installments, doesnt really hold up againist other RPGs. Really it was a benchmark. Graphics, Sound, Story, Gameplay all mixed to herald a new generation of games. But each aspect has been done much better, and in some cases all aspects have been done better by another game. --- --NL-- Z1mZum made me look like Toadette. And made me nominate her. |

Oh yeah here is a prediction. While Cloud is constantly being reminded
on people through games and movies, Crono is not. I think we have
already begin to see the fall of Crono's popularity. I say in the next
4-5 years if we still have these contests and unless a CT remake or a

Crono isn't falling in popularity. It's just his competition is getting stronger.
All he needs is a CT remake, a cameo appearance in something like KH,
or some new Chrono game and he'll go skyrocketing upward. The fact that
he has held up this long on a game from 1995 should tell you
he's not going to be dropping off the map in the coming years. His

Exactly and thats why I said baring an appearance by him in something. But I have little reason to think that to happen. I think Snake will probably be the first character to pass Crono next year, and I think Sonic will follow suit. I do worry about Mega Man though as he also seems to be falling down the Noble Nine. I wouldnt be surprised if Sonic would beat him in a rematch even this year. The question is who would replace Crono and Mega Man in the Noble Nine. Im not sure. Maybe a future FF character, maybe Post-TP Ganondorf or Zelda, maybe Bowser or Vincent. I just see it happening in the not so far future. --- --NL-- Z1mZum made me look like Toadette. I dont mean in literal replacements, if Mega Man or Snake or any Noble
Nine character gets beat I just believe its a reason to kill the notion

It's not something that any of us should worry about right now anyway.
Crono is still very capable of keeping it competitive with people like
Mario, Samus, Mega Man, and Sonic. All it takes is one event where
Square Enix announces something Chrono related and Crono will receive a
boost to keep him up with the rest of the Noble Nine. I wouldn't even
bother worrying about the prediction just because of how far ahead it

Who will be the first to break it? Vincent's got as good of a shot as any, I think. He'll have a new game hitting right around the time the contest starts (presumably). Even Chrono Trigger on the Virtual Console can give Crono a boost. He
has nothing to worry about when it comes to being passed up any time in

Im more worried about Mega Man than Crono since he seems to be falling
fast. I mean in 2003 he was ranked 4th beating out anyone who wasnt
Clinkeroth. Last year he struggled to beat Sonic. There is an obvious

It's not so much that Mega Man is falling as it is everyone's gaining
on him. Plus, I'd personally rank Samus ahead of Mega Man in 2003, if
it came down to it. I doubt he'd beat Mario head-to-head either. And

I also think we should use a new Base for our stats. I believe every
single character boosted from 2k4 to 2k5 except for those caught behind
SFF and have an unsure position (Samus/Ganondorf), those who are
complete schizos in performances (Magus/Frog), and for some reason Ryu. Using a base from stats which are all already fairly archaic is a bit ridiculously. --- --NL-- Z1mZum made me look like Toadette. And made me nominate her. |

I would still take FFVII over Link or The LoZ Series. FFVII is the defining heart of this site. It's a great comparisson piece. And really given the distance between
Link, Cloud, and Seph it is a great way to illustrate the the current

I think people here are overrating the effects an FFVII remake would
have. Sure, pretty much everyone would buy it...but most of those
people are the same people who already have FFVII as their favorite
game, and Cloud/Seph as their favorite character. It wouldn't change
people's opinions on those characters, because they'd be exactly the
same characters they were in the first game. There will certainly be a
boost, but I doubt it will even be as big as the KHF boost. Using a base from stats which are all already fairly archaic is a bit ridiculously. It doesn't matter what's used as the base. The only reason we use 2k2/2k3 Link is because we know what a percentage on BL actually means. Having the base change from year to year just adds confusion. --- Pity for the Gurus is treason to Z1mZum. |

Wow, half of the site wants nothing to do with the PS3, and ownership
of the PS2 is above 75%. And that's with FF being primarily on Sony
consoles, too... I wonder how far ahead the Wii will be in terms of

Wow, half of the site wants nothing to do with the PS3, and
ownership of the PS2 is above 75%. And that's with FF being primarily
on Sony consoles, too... I wonder how far ahead the Wii will be in

Probably depends what time Final Fantasy XIII comes out. Being blinded
by a price tag is not like being blinded by hatred or prejudice. It'll
always be there (at least for that first year), and Sony will need to

Here's a theory I have: Everyone always says that Frog and Magus got huge boosts when they got sprite pictures. Wouldn't the same hold true for Crono? If that's the case, isn't it very possible that Crono actually overperformed on Mario in 2003 and he actually decreased in popularity between 2002 and 2003? Just something I've been thinking of since Magus was exposed last summer. Oh, and here's some new Fact or Fiction. summer. Meh, overperforming with sprites is more of stating what happened as opposed to being a reason for an overperformance. It's not like Chrono Trigger characters aren't recognizable without their sprites. Their Toriyama anime art is extremely photogenic. I find it highly unlikely that seeing Chrono Trigger sprites was the reason for them to get the votes when they normally wouldn't. Cloud/Seph as their favorite character Yeah, which is why FFVII beats OoT and Link beats Cloud, right? Not quite. The peak of hype and excitement is in the immediate aftermath of a release. When you put an FFVII remake on the market, for one thing, you WILL get new fans, believe it or not, and people will remember why they loved the characters in the first place. Not everyone has a monthly playthrough of FFVII. And although we make fun of HM for it all the time, characters are more memorable when they're fresh in your mind. Besides, as said before, FFVII wouldn't just be a straight port with updated graphics. There would be new things to enjoy. Plus, I think updated graphics in a way would boost FFVII characters
because you could do scenes in a way that you couldn't on the PSX to
make them more action-oriented, a la Advent Children. I agree wholeheartedly with this. That is why I think Sephiroth, almost more than anyone, would be a pretty significant boost from the game. Imagining Sephiroth realized through the new cut scenes and with voice acting would probably enough to boost him quite a bit. With a game like Final Fantasy VII, updating the graphics and redoing the cut scenes can do a lot by itself. But there would definitely be new content added to the game. And I think the mere announcement or new trailer of such a game alone could actually boost Cloud and Sephiroth already. It's the game that everyone wants. And like you said, he hasn't been around for 11 years bar the cameo in Cross. Why would Square re-introduce him now? I'll say Fact. I sometimes wonder how Character Contests would have played out had
CJayC introduced them when he started the site. I'm sure Crono would
have broken Link and Mario in 1996., and Cloud would have had to be the
