The only problem I have with the "free matches extra" is that they're
practically just as predictable than the "gimme points" involving them.
Rarely are you going to see an overthrow in the hierarchy in the Noble
Nine. Basically, you're going to get to the point where... Contest winner loses to Solid Snake, who loses to Sonic, who loses to Mega Man, who loses to Crono, who loses to Samus, who loses to Mario, who loses to Sephiroth, who loses to Cloud, who loses to Link. Know this idea is extremely farfetched, but could SMB doing so well on
FF be taken as a sign of Sephiroth and Cloud possibly becoming

and Cloud possibly becoming touchable by Mario, Samus and Megaman again? Everyone had the idea that Sephiroth was vulnerable last year...and we know how that turned out. ^Personally I think so. This is just my theory (actually, I'm sure a lot of people might be thinking it), but I think the massive new voting pool is more pro-Nintendo than pro-Square (if that isn't obvious with SMB and LoZ's success on FF). Why wouldn't that carry over to a character contest? I wouldn't take Mario/Samus/MM to win, but I bet Mario/Seph would be an awful lot closer this time around. --- Z1mZum owned me in the guru contest (by two points!). Damn you Z1mZum! |

While I wouldn't take Mario over Sephiroth, the Mario series doing well

ExTha I would only allow that if a match pic between Solid Snake and
Sephiroth featured an animated gif of Snake sneaking up on Sephiroth

Oh, and Leon, I don't think the ToC would work like that at all.
Chances are it'd be an 8-man bracket if Ceek even took it that far.
That was that year's chumpion gets in w/ L/C/S/M/S/C and another of the
Noble Nine. Basically, IF it was taken to an extreme, It'd just
seperate all but 2 of the Noble Niners, and those two are potentially
beatable while all but 1 of the removed ones won't be for a good long
time. Wouldn't it be nice if just once the championship, or in this case chumpionship, was like a 6-way race? Can't you see it? MM, Sonic, Vincent, Bowser, Ganon and Squall all actually having a shot at jobbing to Link. --- Z1mzum kicked my ass in the guru contest, so now I have to kiss his ass. Probably Link. I'm not sure if a remake will bring as many people to

Also, I'd be even more weary if the remix was a PS3 title. I don't
think the PS3 will have an installed user base big enough to really

Most people who buy it will know how to beat it, after all. Come on. Square won't just give the game updated graphics. They'll add new content. Besides, it's a Final Fantasy VII remake. Launching across from TP almost assures it would be a PS2 title. Big
games like that get held back for awhile by Sony. Seems to be their
general rule, as they always seem to let the big dogs run when the

Yeah, if the PS3 were launched w/ FF7remake the site would
fangasm, and ownership of PS3's among GF users would be no less than
50% higher than they would be otherwise. FF7 matters here, it's the
site's favorite game by a hell of a lot, even if it's series can't say

I don't know if he'd lose every year, but in the immediate aftermath of an FFVII remake, I'd say he'd even be in danger of losing to Sephiroth. Well, I do think the game will get made. It seems silly that Square
would release a FFVII movie and a bunch of spinoffs without remaking
the original; the money and hype would be huge. Of course, it'll
probably be at least a few years before that happens. Cloud has to

Of course, that depends on how much Twilight Princess sets him above the two as well. I think it matters more on the general voting pool more than anything else. Suppose the game launches in three years. In those three years, the Wii has become GameFAQs' favorite console. With an even more Nintendo-centric voting pool, I don't think the effect of a remake will be quite as big. When you've got a poll that indicates that people would buy a PS3 solely for a Final Fantasy VII remake when the Wii is already on target to be one of the more favored consoles, I think that says a lot.
