Oh, yeah... nice cheap shotting... thought we were "horrendous" (I doubt you'd do any better at all... but let's not make this a flame war) or not, you can't really blame X-Stats on it... there were none to speak of

Proof that I did better
Draco1214 | Posted 8/4/2006 4:48:49 PM | message detail
Ahh, but with how much? But I guess Alucard would have the favor if that match happened to take place this year, seeing as Castlevania's got a decent boost from Dawn of Sorrow we can try and assume.

Eh...53-54%. I consider Hayabusa to be stronger than GOW Kratos.

Well that sure didn't stop you guys from drilling xstat into everyone.

... When? I don't remember even mentioning the stats as a way to support my argument. I might have said something about Mega Man or Sonic being popular characters, but I didn't really see anyone using previous stats to make arguments. Characters and games are much different than entire series.

Yeah that sounds about right.

On a sidenote, I'm kinda expecting Prince of Persia to be in between the two.

Um.... Alucard with 56% (Kratos is from a more popular game than Hayabusa, but Hayabusa has Doa and Nes games so I guess that could make him stronger than Kratos, but then Alucard should get a little boost this year since he has returned.)

I'm not expecting much of the Prince, but I'd say Hayabusa is his absolute ceiling. I wouldn't say Kratos is his floor though.

But the Prince doing better than Hayabusa would make me very happy.

HM, I'm not saying you specifically, but in general.

While in your analysis posts you guys tried to be somewhat modest, when you guys argued with people in the stat topic, many of you were very arrogant with the xstats.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/bse_stats.php

Well, I meant with calling the %s and the like.

But sure, go ahead and stroke your ego all you want. You got your prizes, I won't deny you called it better than I did, but a few of those matches were luck to call anyway in the end (basically any match that ended ~51-49), so don't get too cocky.

Anyway, it's not about how well you call them, it's about how convincing and entertaining you are when you do so. Going by your posts, I doubt your capability for either... so yes, I stand by my statement of doubting whether you could do any better.

Now was Alucard actually in Dawn of Sorrow or was it all Soma? Cause I hear of rumors that you can play as Alucard after you beat the game, and I also heard rumors you can play as Luigi in NSMB after you beat it, and that hasn't happened for me yet unless I did somethin wrong....anyhow, just curious.

Honestly, I think his potential can possibly reach to even say 45% on Zero(not saying he will, I just mean...potential wise). I mean, Prince of Persia is a pretty wide set of games, and obviously, he stars in all of them.

So we'll assume a small boost, perhaps 1 or 2% at the most, nothing too special.

But how popular are the games, really? I love the series, but I don't think they're as popular as, say, Ninja Gaiden or God of War.

Well I know the original older games and the new trilogy have all sold pretty well, maybe with Warrior Within being the weakest sales wise. GoW I'm pretty sure got tremendous amounts of purchases as probably did both NG and NGB for the Xbox, but take in account the PoP trilogy was multi-platform and you've probably got a pretty popular series going there.

Many people said the same to me when they saw my best series bracket.

Can you guess what my score is for that?

You're starting the wrong argument in here. Waving a perfect bracket in a half-contest <<< winning the third-hardest bracket contest in the history of the site. You needed to call Castlevania, Warcraft and Zelda. That's it, because the rest of the bracket was a joke. You aren't half as smart as you're acting, and just from personal experience that's the quickest way to get this board to hate you.

Though I'll agree with you that this place is too elitist and quick to guarantee things based off of irrelevant, outdated numbers that don't take enough into account, like I dunno.... the fact that human beings aren't robots.

Anyhoo, hmmm..... let me take a guess at the top ten females in no order:

Samus
Aeris
Tifa
Zelda
Yuna
Rikku
Lulu (if she even gets in)
Jill Valentine
Peach
Chun-Li

Everything after Zelda is just bad midcarders and fodder, more or less. I would pick Peach over KOS-MOS and Lulu, at least.

I'd say Yuffie would certainly finish top 10 amongst the females just because she's from FF7, but it is a possibility that the FF7 fanbase doesn't care about/hates her.

I think Yuffie "hate" is overrated. Sure she's no Tifa, but she's decent. Plus she had a Squall-like role in Kingdom Hearts. That definitely put her in more favorable light among many (including me).

The only reason I even showed my perfect bracket was because someone said my brackets must suck and also because Lopen said I'd do worst in the analysis. (But then getting the match right became the least important thing about the analysis, so I guess he is right since there no way I'd write all that stuff)

If I really wanted to brag I'd show this too.

Getting the match right is 50/50 (though one option will usually seem the better pick), but getting the right prediction and actually stating why you pick what you pick is harder (especially if it's an upset).

Lopen | Posted 8/4/2006 5:50:13 PM | message detail
But then getting the match right became the least important thing about the analysis

On a related note, even with a perfect bracket, you still might not have done the best at picking the matches (though you'd be the favorite with your three off calls alone). I mean, calling a Resident Evil victory over Street Fighter 60-40 is technically a poorer call than a 51-49 victory for Street Fighter in that... at least the way I see it.

Still. You're being an ass, either way. If anybody has the bragging rights in these things, I'd go with YoBlazer. Even though he doesn't win every time, his bracket has been in the top 50... in what, 3 out of the 4 contests he's entered or something ridiculous like that? And Ulti outdid you in a much harder contest. (of which you likely didn't enter, but even so)

And yet they don't constantly use this to defend themselves! Shocking, I know! Just because you can get the series contest right doesn't really make you that much more credible in the upcoming character contest. I swear I'm going to get tired of you showing off your scores to conceal your inability to form a good argument, so please, I'm beggin ya... stop shoving it down our throats.

Haha...ego wannabes you all are...for it is I with the grandest of all egos! The ego of egos...and the best part is, peeps still love me! Why? Cause I aint an ass, thats why!

Me losin my perfect bracket cause of Sonic notwithstanding...

Anyways, the analyses of Steve Illumina are some of the finest entertainment on Board 8, and my fans know it! :) Even the haters, the jealous, the wannabes...they all know it too!

Now then, bring on the bracket Ceej...show me Kitana as a nice #6 seed :) Show me Celes, Rydia, and Aeris too! And then, show me Cid, Subzero & Fulgore while you are at it! Leave the Jay Solanos, Midgar Zoloms, Noobie X or whatever her name is, that other dumb fad pick, you know the one. Leave them all on the cutting room floor where they belong!

Bring me the bracket that will bring me my glory...and the first perfect bracket that peeps actually will really respect without any shadow of a doubt, cause even the Sage of Board 8 has to admit this bracket was easy to call.

There wont be another Series contest though, so I take solace in that.

Now then, back to Steve's Game of the Week: Mega Man Anniv. Collection :)
