Why the hell did Zelda have to go and get that huge update a little bit ago?! ;.;

I am hoping and praying that this is all the morning vote is... because if FF can SPLIT the day vote with Zelda... there may still be hope.

While it's nice trying to see FF coming back, I can only imagine when the morning/day vote comes in, FF is going to get crushed. -(

No, but it's not really that necessary to comment on every little shift. Only if one of them starts doing something drastic do more people start commenting.

And we have now reached the point where Zelda decided to start gaining on Metal Gear, which it continued doing until the end of the match. From here on out, every update FF wins should feel like more and more of an accomplishment.

Projected result

8:00:

Legend of Zelda: 27,144/51.39%
Final Fantasy: 25,666/48.61%

Lead of 1478

Total: 52,810

Actual result

Legend of Zelda: 27,357/51.33%
Final Fantasy: 25,935/48.67%

Lead of 1422

Total: 53,292

Seems voting picked up a bit so my votals are lagging. I'll adjust the rest of the totals by an equal amount. FF was understimated a bit, but all in all, not too bad. Of course, that was just a projection of 2 hours into the future. Things start falling apart for the next 4 hours >_>

Here are the new future projections. Wheee

12:00:

Legend of Zelda: 42,080/51.72%
Final Fantasy: 39,282/48.28%

Lead of 2798

Total: 81,362

16:00

Legend of Zelda: 58,403/51.87%
Final Fantasy: 54,193/48.13%

Lead of 4210

Total: 112,596

20:00

Legend of Zelda: 70,376/51.52%
Final Fantasy: 66,224/48.48%

Lead of 4152

Total: 136,600

24:00

Legend of Zelda: 79,189/51.16%
Final Fantasy: 75,598/48.84%

Lead of 3591

Total: 154,787

I do hate how this happened like clockwork, too. After inspection, I'm thinking Castlevania/Halo was the exception, not the norm.

The exception in that Halo couldn't drum up a dramatic day vote shift. Yes, it did *better* during the day, but Master Chief was arguably more impressive during a blowout (MC/Crono) than that match. It defied expectations.

This match is just looking to parallel Link/Cloud 2k5.

Theoretically how long does the morning period last? Still anything can happen during the day/evening.
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 5:27:29 AM | message detail
From around now to a little around noon, from how I've observed it. That means FF is in for a long, long haul.

Castlevania's % from 3:00 to 9:00: 58.98%

Castlevania's % from 9:00 to 15:00: 53.63%

There was definitely a pretty sizable swing in that match. Problem is, when you're getting 59% before the day vote, it's going to take a lot more than that to make any progress. Even if Castlevania had failed as badly as Alucard in the day, I don't think Halo could have made up the difference.

Zelda is showing no signs of running away right now. Comeback victory is still within reach if FF can just minimize the damage until evening hours...
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 5:31:25 AM | message detail
Oh, it was a nice day vote swing on its own, it just wasn't...MC-style. Perhaps we expected too much out of it, obviously.

And let's say it wasn't the exception. Great! That means the whole contest had predictable voting trends. How exciting!

The n00b Avenger | Posted 8/1/2006 5:32:19 AM | message detail
Oh certainly Master Chief is more impressive. I'm just saying that even though Halo wasn't as good as MC and CV wasn't as bad as Alucard, it still followed predictable trends

And although I typically view the morning vote as 'over', at noon, that doesn't mean that Zelda will stop gaining there, it just means that it won't be *as* much. Cloud didn't start taking back votes against Link until, very, very, late on.

Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 5:38:06 AM | message detail
FF is just stalling right now while Zelda makes the consistent gains, and it's going to get worse as the time goes on. For comparison, Link had less of a lead over Cloud this many hours into the match than Zelda does over FF. Now, you've got to factor in higher votals and the fact that Zelda has less percentage, but also keep in mind that this poll started 3 hours eariler.

I told you guys this vote would be erratic.

I keep waiting for the floodgates to open for Zelda, but I just don't think it's happening. FF is hanging tough.
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 5:43:48 AM | message detail
FF will win updates here. Cloud did, too. But Zelda will be the more consistent over time.

And yes, the anti-voting made this match far less interesting. Zelda's biggest 15 minute update was its very first one, where it got a gain of 636 votes.

FF's been dropping, but it still hasn't crumbled... but if I'm not mistaken, the next hour was Mario's second best hour against FF.

I know it's not likely, but I'm still dreaming of FF making a SC-like comeback...

I don't know how people can call the entire contest rubbish except for this match. Sure there's been a great deal of predictable matches, but there's been clear cut upsets, a fair few matches that have raised eyebrows, and a decent number of close matches that were moderately exciting. Just because Zelda has crushed everything doesn't make it dull.

Oh yeah, Zelda's going like a train now. Could be over 2000 very shortly but any point of no return will have to be bigger than usual given the huge votals.

Gah, Final Fantasy's collapsing now. I'm tired of the Nintendo domininance on this site and especially this bored. Considering that the villain contest was meaningless, this is pretty much the third in a row that's been dominated by Nintendo, and we're probably about to see a fourth.
