Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

Yeah, I don't think we're desperate enough for entirely new contest entrants yet; it's always about how you set up the bracket. One of the..well, almost, coolest moments was when we all wanted to make the bracket last year or so, too bad it didn't work out.

Ya know. I dunno if I'm even looking forward to the next contest that much right now. This one was short, but the way ceej handled it burned me out on contests... not to mention I'm sick and tired of seeing the same winner everytime. Not much anyone can do about that, though. It's weird, but I feel differently about a lot of things in a contest than I do in general, and I must say I despise LoZ/Link in contests. Oh well.

Heh, I'm actually the opposite way. Final Fantasy is by far my favorite series, but I've been cheering for LoZ the whole time. Something about this site just makes me want to go against FF.

No, it would still be bad. The *only* reason why we would want third-party characters in the first place is for an opportunity to attempt to down the true elites. That was the idea behind people expressing a desire for Sephiroth to be in an 'Exhibition' match against Darth Vader after the Villains Contest final. But the thing is this is GameFAQs, and there are no outside characters that can take down the likes of Link or Cloud. And as for the rest of the elites, there are already characters in line begging for a chance to take down Snake. Vincent over Snake is much more meaningful than Spider-Man over Snake.

Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 1:34:22 AM | message detail
But we already know that. We don't need to change the contest to prove to us Spider-man would be a decently strong character. IGN already holds contests that allow third-party characters, and the results aren't pleasing -- characters like Wolverine and Goku ripping through deserving video game characters, stuff like that.

Most casuals are under the impression that Final Fantasy always wins, and I can't fathom why (especially since so many are aware of Link's dominance)...on everywhere outside this board, the term SquareFAQs is far more common than NintendoFAQs.

I'd like IGN to completely rip off SC2k3's bracket, just to see how the results would go. It has the potential to be very unpredictable.

Maybe people are resentful that Final Fantasy is strong enough to compete with all of Nintendo? It is just one series, after all. It's one series that crushes Nintendo's lower ranks, beats Mario without a struggle, and manages to at least challenge Zelda most of the time.

Besides, even with this loss, Final Fantasy is now 2-1 in non-traditional contests. Cloud's win makes it 3-1. Link's three wins make it 3-4. Not terrible.

Who knows? All I know is that this is the first time either Zelda or Final Fantasy managed to win two contests in a row. It's always been pretty competitive. It could remain that way. Remember, this was an unexpected result by board expectations. If this could happen, I don't see why Cloud winning in a few months is out of the question.

Heck, you want to talk about resentment, I'm resentful that a two-game series (and the only series in this contest that is truly a two game series, the others at least have three or even expansions) is able to escape the doubling from the king of gaming himself and destroy every other series in this contest that aren't the big three. With only two games. I've got nothing against it being strong, but it just feels wrong to have something with so little history and influence not even get challenged by any other series.

Don't look now, FF is on pace to cut the lead down to triple digits before the sunrise.
YoAriel33 | Posted 8/1/2006 2:08:08 AM | message detail
Actually, Final Fantasy did manage to win two in a row (SC2K3 and SpC2K4). Still, it has been competitive. Also, in terms of unexpected champions, this one falls right behind Cloud. Aren't surprises generally viewed as a good thing, or are some people upset because they view this as a guaranteed precursor of boring dominance in future contests?

I really do see Cloud winning in two months as being a virtual impossibility, though I almost certainly will be taking him the more I think about it. KH2 will only do so much, it seems. Heck, I'm not convinced FF would be doing any better even if the KH series were under the Final Fantasy name.

Zelda finally stems the bleeding, a bit, on that update.

Also, as I said before, I'll be really surprised if Zelda isn't the bracket favorite, even with the board's massive favoring of FF.

Heh, but FF winning this would be just as bad, if not worse than Zelda winning. I mean, Zelda really was the "underdog," until probably Mario's spirited effort against FF. I am a huge LOZ fan, but I hear where your coming from. LOZ & FF winning everything isn't exciting anymore.
