"I just like to say that TRE you are easily one of the most underrated people not only in this thread but on this board."

Huh. And here I recall just a couple months ago seeing a series of rate the user polls that had TRE at like #2. I think the board has a lot of respect for TRE, though you may be right about them not having quite enough!

Going back to the discussion on when to have a games contest...there will likely NEVER be a year without some huge games. 2005 is the biggest year I can think of, and even that had RE4.

2006 - TP, MP3, FFXII, KH2, New Sonic, etc.
2007 - SSBB, New Sonic, MGS4, SMG, etc.
2008 - FFXIII, New Zelda, Chrono Trigger DS, whatever.
2009 - New Mario game, Mega Man ZZZ, Metroid Dread, Chrono Break, etc.

Okay, so I made some of those up, but it's inevitable that we'll see more great stuff. The best solution, IMO, is to have more games contests. <3

I dont know I must have missed though. I just dont think enough people get credit for not only discussing the contests and being a member of Board 8, but actually giving something to board 8 that helps to shape it.

We tend to underappreciate our best users is my point.

You know, Civilization getting 10% on what seems to be the strongest contest force ever is actually pretty amazing. What happened there?

Must've been the awesome picture it had, heh.

Really though, that's good. I'm probably going to start playing the original Civilization in a couple weeks too.

FF's been stalling very well for a while, but it means nothing with a 2000 vote deficit at what is likely its best time. I know I entertained the possibility of FF coming back with the day vote in superb ironic fashion...but ignoring the staggering size of the deficit, Mario showed that to be very doubtful indeed.

FF7 is only part of the FF series, and the FF series is losing to the Zelda series, which makes the Zelda series stronger than FF7.

If trends from the Mario match hold, Final Fantasy should break 48% by the end, and could push 49%.

I tried Alpha Centauri some years ago after hearing wonderful things about it, but I just couldn't get into it.

Parts of Civ2 were great (I got it back when it came out, as I had been a Civ fan for a while by then) but I never played it much. I just didn't like it as much as the first. In large part because of the 45 degree skewed map view, it made me mess up moving military pieces IIRC...I liked the top-down of the first. A minor thing, but enough to made me not addicted to the game.

Karma Hunter:
FF's been stalling very well for a while, but it means nothing with a 2000 vote deficit at what is likely its best time.

Actually this isn't Final Fantasy's best time. In the Mario match it got 53.28% of the vote from 2am-3am (EST), and finished with 53.24%. So in that match 2am-3am was pretty representative of the total match.

Chichiri:
Hm, I never had trouble working with Civ2's interface. Perhaps you should try it again without such fresh memories of the first. It's amazing what a decade of not playing a game will do to your perception of it when playing again.

Hmmm...very true.

However I'll still probably play the first and not the second, because I'm been on a DOS gaming nostalgia kick recently, and I have tons of nostalgia for the first. Just yesterday, gameplay memories came back to me that I hadn't thought of in well over 10 years. (pretty amazing how you can not think of a detail even once for 10 years yet still remember it)

You know, there's actually a non-trivial chance we'll see a lead change before morning. Final Fantasy should be picking up 53+% updates regularly in its best time. 53% hours, even.

"(pretty amazing how you can not think of a detail even once for 10 years yet still remember it)"

I dunno, I hadn't played the original Zelda in many, many years (probably 7-8) but I could still tell my friend where 95% of the secret doors are on the first quest AND which ones charge you for breaking their doors. It all depends on how important it was to you to learn the details in the first place, and since even at the tender age of 8 I was trying for a "perfect" run of Zelda (best I could do at that age was 8 continues) I did make a point of learning them all. Considering how many times I playe dthe first quest from beginning to end, I don't think remembering those details is amazing at all. Of course, perhaps you're talking about games you hadn't played as much...

I was thinking about details like the huts. I hadn't thought of those since I last played the game ages ago, but yesterday I remembered them, and how you would randomly get 50 gold, cavalry, or get attacked by barbarians (in which case I cheated and loaded my game...), or (I remembered just now) a settler. Thinking of those red colored barbarian units brought back memories.

Man, you'd have to have not played the game in a long ass time to forget that, methinks. I mean, I've played Civ2 more recently than 10 years ago (the game is only 10 years old as-is) but that's something I wouldn't forget. Random chances for "oops, I'm way ahead of the competition" aren't something I tend to forget though.

Well, I didn't completely forget it as I remembered it yesterday randomly without being prompted by anything, I just had totally not thought of it once in over ten years. And then randomly I remember it as I start thinking about the game. Made me pretty nostalgic.

I sat out for a bit...but once I read everything, here's what I'm gonna say: I try not to be elitist, but I back Chichiri up in that respected people in a respected topic shouldn't suddenly be hunted out like that...or, really, anybody else in any topic usually, but when you purposefully reach across open turf (not that CS&D is private property.....) to challenge Chichiri -- somebody known for gettin' rough in the topics -- that's just trolling.

Chichiri could have easily cut off the feedback though and made things easier, though, but I'm not goin' to blame him this time despite his history.

ANYWAY, I doubt FF can still win, but it should continuously cut down more.

I just need to jump in and say that the Civ series is a really amazing series. CivII, CivIII and CivIV have together taken several thousands of hours, maybe even ten thousand hours, of my life away over the last decade. I'm just wondering how well it's going to place relatively if(when) LoZ wins?

It's somebody who's been around for a long time and probably kept up with CS:D topics, since he called him Chi Chi a time or two and I remember Chichiri saying he gets pissed at that name a long time ago in one of these topics. That would fit Shake in both the two details and a way he'd go to annoy him. I dunno if it's Shake for sure, of course, but those fit at least.

I've never played Civ 3 or Civ 4. I'd like to get my little brother to play Civ 4 (rather than brainless junk), but I don't think he'll warm up to the idea :( He's not into strategy games at all. Kids these days...

I doubt the ten thousand hours thing ;) That's a 1000 hours a year, and a person who works 40 hours a work only works about 2000 hours a year.

I'm just wondering how well it's going to place relatively if(when) LoZ wins?
