And now it's time for an edition of... Karma Hunter's Stream of Consciousness Man, I hate family reunions. I don't know half the people here, they all know me from their obsessive inspection of every one of my family's pictures, and the food is somewhat lacking. I'm bored. Hey, I totally forgot, FF/Zelda is today. Hey, before you click on the poll, what do you think Zelda has right now, around two hours in? It probably has around 52% or so, if trends hold... Well, let's vote. WHOA. Over 55% here? Okay, not expecting FF to win...looks like its diversity hurt it, just as I feared all along. So much in fact, that it looks like Zelda is comparatively stronger than Link than Final Fantasy is stronger than Cloud. I know Cloud has the KH games to inflate that value, but still, that makes little sense. This is worse than any Link/Cloud though, and even worse than FFVII/OoT. I really doubt FFVII pulls it out today over OoT...though if it can, there's no way Twilight Princess beats it. People completely underestimate the value of nostalgia. Looks like the Finals of the Games Contest are no longer in question...which is sad, because the bracket itself will probably be boring as hell with what Ceej has in mind. Heck, I might very well take Cloud in the upset just because no one else on the board would do it. Not that it's good logic or anything, but it's almost worked in a few instances (Pokemon/Metroid being one). Saddening, but unfortunately this falls right in line with Zelda's comparability to Mario...heck, Mario might be even more close than expected. This makes Metal Gear look better than it used to, though. I guess that is a nice solace...after all, Zelda doing what it did on MG made me jump ship in the first place. It'll be harder to bash extrapolation now that FF isn't winning, though...it needs to make it closer, if anything. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. Thanks. So his bike is called Fenrir? Pretty neat. As for Final Fantasy fans, I skimmed the boards and they do seem relatively composed. Regardless, the post was in jest. Way too much text over a joke post. Like I said, it being a joke doesn't eliminate the "problem," which isn't really a problem since it only occurs every once in a while. And I've noticed you typically just copy and paste one line of anything long I've written, and address that, instead of the whole thing. One interesting thing to think of now is how strong Zelda's other games will be...especially Majora's Mask. Could it actually be stronger than FFVIII? --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

No, not unless Galaxy is less than a week old or legitimately in
contention for best game of the series. A single entry in a 20+ year

FF finally wins an update. Now even IF (big if) FF makes a good match of this, Link beats the hell out of Cloud during every day vote between the two. And Final Fantasy makes its first big cut, giving false hope across Board 8. And I wonder about SMG. We haven't had a truly groundbreaking Mario game since Super Mario 64...Super Mario Sunshine wasn't even that well received by GameFAQs, frankly. Yeah, it's almost depressing from the "wanting to see a good match"
perspective. But on the other hand, it beat Mario, after letting it

FF does better in the day than Cloud, from what I've seen. Not a big
difference, but whatever. Chances are, this'll be a match to remember,

Both Mario and his series serve as representatives of both a company and to an extent, video gaming in general, and that's where they draw a lot of their popularity from. I do expect this to still get more votes than Final Fantasy/Zelda,
because I don't think it is as frontloaded (mainly due to the board
loving Mario so much, and also possibly the Sunday night/Monday night
thing, though I don't know which way that would affect frontloadedness). Very nice to see Final Fantasy win an update (it should win quite a bit overnight, and gain a few hundred votes at least during its peak time). If Final Fantasy breaks 48% by the end though it would almost be a moral victory. --- As the best poster in the stats topic, I move that we all stop acting like elitist know-it-alls about matches that aren't horribly obvious. |
