From MasterOfHunters | Posted 8/1/2006 12:41:43 AM | #242
FF7 still beats OoT. I don't think this Nintendo boost helps games, as much as they help characters and perhaps series'. People already played Oot and FF7, they are not gonna go back and suddenly change which game they liked better. OoT will never beat FF7.

The idea behind big boosts like what Nintendo enjoyed recently is that the people that leave don't like the same thing as the people who come in. Why do you see the term "demographic shift" used so much, you think?

To be quite honest I almost rather hold the Games contest off until 2008 or atleast late 2007. 2007 is proving to be maybe the biggest year in gaming history games wise and I dont know if I like SSBB, MGS 4, SMG, Halo 3, and others missing out.

Yeah, but Chrono Trigger was still ahead of LttP and FFVII was still ahead of OoT.

Chrono Trigger is not FF, this is why I picked LoZ to win.
Lopen | Posted 7/31/2006 9:44:21 PM | message detail
This match is done. I'll admit I was wrong. This is just too ridiculous. It's a 1400 vote lead already for chrissakes!

(Please make me eat my words, FF!)

As I posted in another topic, if Ocarina of Time boosted as much as Mario (about 15%), then it beats FF7 with 53%.

I think most of us would still take FF7, but...look at the match right now.

NewLib, people use that excuse every year.

Besides, the first game contest was held mere months before the absolutely crazy November 2004.

I agree with NewLib. New systems and all that. Even if the next-gen games don't quite reach top tier status, at least they should confuse things a bit.
Master Moltar | Posted 7/31/2006 9:46:15 PM | message detail
I'd still take FF7 over Zelda...just seems like the series is stronger. FF7 is still #1 to GameFAQs.

OoT might put up a better fight though...

I dont know if I use at excuse every year. I mean no year has seemingly so many big names or awesome looking games than 2007 in recent memory. I atleast have to go back 10 years to find another. 2005 and 2006 looked pretty bleak with games.

As long as he had another one in 2008, I dont think I mind that much.

If a game contest is held next spring, I'll definitely take OOT.

I's take Alttp over CT too. Heck if it was the same setup as 2004 then, I'd predict 4 Nintendo games in the final four. There's just something about this Nintendo momentum that feels unstoppable.

Yeah, but I would have (and probably did) said that about the Square momentum way back when. I still think FF7 beats OOT hands down. Like... er, somebody said - unless Twilight Princess is bigger than FF7, ain't no topplin' it.

You are probably right. But don't you find it entirely possible that Loz takes down FF in a series contest in 2004? When it comes to two biggest games of that era, I don't think this boost helps OoT now, or ever.

It wasn't until about 2 hours into the Mario match that Final Fantasy started regularly getting the percentage it would finish with.

Also note that during the "Europe" hours Final Fantasy should do much better %wise than it will finish with (too bad these are the slimmest hours in terms of votes).

This match should get closer, though Zelda is still looking real good. All hope is not lost, but Zelda has many more reasons for optimism.

One additional smidgen of hope might come from the "the day vote is more sensitive to pics" hypothesis (though it's a shaky hypothesis). Final Fantasy's day vote against Mario was pretty sucky by Final Fantasy standards. If one blames Ashe for that, Final Fantasy's day vote here could be better than it was.

So instead of people talking about the epic final we're about to see, people decide to troll the stats topics. Typical Board 8.

Okay, I"m sure someone else as annoyed as I was by this introduction has commented on it. But after just trudging through the immaturity and internet elitism of the last topic, this is how you start it? I sincerely hope it was a joke. And even if it was a joke, it still isn't justified, because then you're doing it just to see the reactions of people pissed off at a simple internet site. I freaking come here for entertainment, and you'd think most other people do as well.

It was truly aggravating to read through both new and veteran posters whining about nsmb and then whine about...whining. "people" didn't decide to troll the stats topic, a stupid argument flared up and wasn't treated in a mature matter. And considering the status you have, or consider yourself to have, on Board 8, it's doubly ingratiating to watch you bash it, always. Geez, everyone needs to get over themselves and treat each other decently. People don't, or at least shouldn't, have to work to earn anyone else's respect, either here or in life. They're a person, just like you, start off politely civil, and then if circumstances require, shut the whiner up.

And I don't care if this is cold, or old, or whatever. I just coudn't stop myself.

It's an awesome sig. Not only did I make it to call CN the best stats poster in the most sly way possible, but the second half of the sentence calls into question everything wrong with the topic. It's not a bad topic by any means (my favorite series on GameFAQs), but people in here are too sure of themselves. I dunno, I always hoped that this place would be more mature and accepting than the rest of the board. Stat arrogance and calling crap that's in question just annoys me.
