That's also possibly true. I got mad at a lot of people for that. Shake
is the one I spent the most time expressing my displeasure on the
matter to, which is the reason he still calls me that to this day. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |

Well, I'm not going into exact dates here, but we're both talking fall

encounters with ANYONE calling me that are back in pts 3 and 4, and
almost certainly no later. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |

I've never played Civ 3 or Civ 4. I'd like to get my little brother
to play Civ 4 (rather than brainless junk), but I don't think he'll
warm up to the idea :( He's not into strategy games at all. Kids these
days... Well, civIII was always my favorite and consequently the one I spent the most time on. But both are amazing, and have been heavily addicting to me. And I managed to get my brother into CivIV, but only because I convinced him the graphics were good =P. He never touched civIII, to my great chagrin, because the graphics look too "old." And maybe 10k is a bit much, but that series has really consumed me over the years. Although I can't give a full log, but I do recall spending one summer, the first year after the release of civIII (2001/2002?) completely glued. I spent at least 12 hours a day, every day for around a month before cooling off. And from then until only last year, my weekends usually consisted of non-stop civIII. For a while, I actually believed civIII caused the terrible insomnia I had for several years afterwards =P. I'm actually pretty confident in stating that during that first year with civIII, I spent more time playing that one game then I did sleeping. No joke =/ oh, and sorry for being in the way of this big argument you guys are having, but as you might see, civ is my passion and it's way to tempting not to talk about it =(. --- Every man is entitled to express his opinions and every other man is entitled not to listen.G. Heh. There are no more arguments, everyone seems to have wandered off.
I refuse to leave only because I have seen a CSAD from beginning to end
in a good long while. Anyway, that's a hell of a lot of time to spend on one game, not even at my worst was I that addicted to Diablo 2 and no game has taken more of my life than that one. Though it being a Civilization game makes it understandable. They are ever so good. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |

At least we weren't making 100's of topics stating our displeasure by
cursing out the world and B8. See, we're going for diplomatic victory
this time, so the more friends the better =D. --- Every man is entitled to express his opinions and every other man is entitled not to listen.G. Norman Collie |
ChichiriMuyo | Posted 8/1/2006 12:04:18 AM | message detail |
Well, a match between these two forces hasn't been worthy of discussion
since the time Zelda didn't win. Unless FF owns the dead zone and
doesn't stop when the morning vote hits it's over, and none of that
happens soon or quickly. If there is anything to talk about fo rthis
match it won't be there until tomorrow morning. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |
ChichiriMuyo | Posted 8/1/2006 12:05:58 AM | message detail |
Oh, and in non-Bizarro world the poll would have just started. I
genuinely believed it was a good idea until we tried it, but now I
don't like the new start time that much. Maybe cause I can't get decent
conversation out of more than two people now. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |
Redtooth | Posted 8/1/2006 12:09:20 AM | message detail |
Well, in that case we should continue discussing the marvelous series that is Civ =D. oh and I have to agree with the start time thing. The only way it affected me at all was for the First vote contest. And I though, hey, earlier start time means I can be up for it much more often. So I thought I stood a chance of getting it once this year. But I was mistaken, as this much earlier start time means I was always busy come 11:00 pm. At least at like 2 am I was alone and always in front of a comp screen... --- Every man is entitled to express his opinions and every other man is entitled not to listen.G. Norman Collie |

I'm actually pretty confident in stating that during that first year
with civIII, I spent more time playing that one game then I did
sleeping. No joke =/ Wow. You needed that civanon.org site that has ads on here :) They got some neat stuff there actually...George W. Bush dude: "Did you know they spoke Latin back then?" You know, Final Fantasy took 49.59% of the vote from 2am-3am (that's what I was staying up to see). If that's representative of the whole match like with Mario (not a solid assumption, but not impossible)...Final Fantasy could show some fight. And the shaky "pics matter more to the day vote, and we've got Cloud here instead of unknown girl" notion might actually imply that the 2am-3am vote underrates Final Fantasy when compared to the Mario match. So maybe there's some hope...? I can't get myself to believe that Final Fantasy can still win this. But seeing Final Fantasy win, after everything that's happened, would probably have to be the awesomest contest related thing for me since Crono beat Mario. --- As the best poster in the stats topic, I move that we all stop acting like elitist know-it-alls about matches that aren't horribly obvious. |
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 12:11:43 AM | message detail |
I'm just waiting for FF to do something...anything. If
this match would look remotely interesting, there would be a lot more
discussion on our hands concerning all sorts of things...but now it's
just like, eh, NintendoFAQs. Not even an LOL to go on it. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |
Redtooth | Posted 8/1/2006 12:16:57 AM | message detail |
That civanon is great, thanks for the site! and I agree that FF could be doing something to liven up the match. I mean, I'm not really expecting it to win anymore, but it could at least give me a reason to stay up longer. --- Every man is entitled to express his opinions and every other man is entitled not to listen.G. Norman Collie |
ChichiriMuyo | Posted 8/1/2006 12:17:36 AM | message detail |
I can't either, but I haven't ruled it out. I think it can bring it
back to being a match before daybreak if it works hard enough. But the
question is will it mean anything by then or will it be too late? "I'm just waiting for FF to do something...anything." And that's what bothers me. I've seen this before, I've seen it several times. In the past, LoZ/Link hasn't had any trouble taking the lead to start and keep it 'til the end. My biggest hope for making the finals interesting again someday is an FF7 re-release on the PS3 that won't come until 2k8 at best. :( --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |
creativename | Posted 8/1/2006 12:17:47 AM | message detail |
I still much, much prefer the newer start times. 3am start is just waaay too late. I'm just waiting for FF to do something...anything. Final Fantasy will probably start putting a bit of hurt on Zelda in the dead hours of 4-7, actually. Too bad nearly all Final Fantasy fans will miss what might be the only excitement for Final Fantasy of the match (though Final Fantasy might still do something later, if the comparison trends I brought up mean anything). As for discussion, I think people really got satisfied on the match yesterday. And also more resigned to Zelda winning. --- As the best poster in the stats topic, I move that we all stop acting like elitist know-it-alls about matches that aren't horribly obvious. |

If Zelda didn't have the best day vote on the site, FF would still have
a chance. It's been stalling/gaining for awhile now. The problem is
that this is all over come 7 a.m. ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. Ever." Contest Now Playing: Resident Evil 4, KH:COM (Sora), Larussa 92 (NYY) |
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 12:29:40 AM | message detail |
Stupid voting trends! WHAT HAPPENED TO THE LACK OF THE DAY VOTE THIS CONTEST WAS SUPPOSED TO BRING? FF is actually making a move or two now, sadly. If it intensifies a bit it could steal the lead before the sun rises. That would be somewhat satisfying. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |
creativename | Posted 8/1/2006 12:34:29 AM | message detail |
If Zelda didn't have the best day vote on the site, FF would still
have a chance. It's been stalling/gaining for awhile now. The problem
is that this is all over come 7 a.m. It has a great day vote, but it doesn't have the best night/day vote split. The issues are what it's split is compared to Final Fantasy and SMB. The trends I brought up earlier innately factor in SMB's day vote, which is fair (bad against SSB, good in the other matches), so it comes down in large part to how Zelda's split is compared to SMB. Final Fantasy will lose the morning vote, but if it can stop Zelda from running away with it, it could do something in the evening. Most likely, Zelda will get a fairly hefty morning vote and Final Fantasy won't be able to do much other than stall/creep up slightly in the evening, and Zelda will win comfortably. But it's not totally hopeless. --- As the best poster in the stats topic, I move that we all stop acting like elitist know-it-alls about matches that aren't horribly obvious. |
ChichiriMuyo | Posted 8/1/2006 12:35:29 AM | message detail |
I agree, cn, that's just too late. However, it seems to have adjusted
our normal voting patterns in an unexpected way and it's not one thta I
appreciate. I liked knowing that Halo would take off like a rocket in
the afternoon. Until we get the hang of the slightly altered voting
patterns I won't like it. I'll settle in eventually, I'm sure. "The problem is that this is all over come 7 a.m." Not necessarily... --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |

We've never had an exciting Finals match in any contest. Heck, we
haven't even had an exciting Final Four match in any contest since
Mario/Crono I. For once, I'd like to see one, but if there's anything
I've been resigned to by now it's that Finals matches are usually
boring...sometimes relatively close, but mostly boring. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

Good as in completely and utterly unexpected by most everyone and still
the biggest upset ever in my book, but in terms of actual excitement?

The only time I remember this voting pattern happening in this contest
was SF vs. RE, in which from about 3 AM to 6 AM EST SF stalled RE for a
bit and then RE continued increasing the lead. Hopefully this is what
we're seeing right now. --- Best. Series. Ever. Score: 62/64 Prediction: The Legend of Zelda vs. Final Fantasy |

If that match happened today and it was the first time Link didn't win,
it'd be really ****ing exciting. But so many years down the line, I
don't remember which ones were exciting anymore, just the ones that
were good. The two are insepperable in my mind. --- ... Detective in Sir Chris' Police |
Karma Hunter | Posted 8/1/2006 12:46:37 AM | message detail |
RE/SF actually sounds more or less accurate, but that means FF actually
has a chance. Aside from the morning vote, RE never had any decisive
advantage on SF. SF actually was stronger after those hours than it was
before then, which really shocked the hell out of me. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

just was watching celebrity poker, is any one else addicted to that show when it's on? anyway, Zelda hasn't really passed the point of no return, especially with higher vote totals. much right now. This one was short, but the way ceej handled it burned
me out on contests... not to mention I'm sick and tired of seeing the
