People actually used Mega Mushrooms for bosses? I never used Mega Mushrooms for most anything since they add nothing to most levels.

Mini Mushrooms are fun as hell. The boosted jumping is fun, and you can use it to do some fun stuff, like bouncing on spiders in 4-1 without touching the ground. The Mini Mushroom is easily the funnest item in the game.

Blue Shell's only good if you want to see if you can feasibly slide all the way to the end of a level. It's only useful to challenge yourself.

Yeah, making Mini Mushrooms/Blue Shells more useful and nixing Mega Mushrooms in favor of another item would've helped.

Y'all must suck at using the blue shell, because that thing was the most fun power up in the game. Sliding through whole levels is epic.

NSMB would have been a disappointment no matter had good it was simply because people are already nostalgia-ridden to the point where it could never be better than SMB3.

Oh, I like SMB3 better. But some of these comments are ridiculous. It wasn't amazing, but it was a fun game for crying out loud.

And allowing you to use a stored item mid-level is too cheap. You pretty much become Fire Mario for the entire game. SMB3's was much better, but it really only worked since its items were so diverse. But it made you pay for your mistakes.

It was pretty fun, and I'm not saying it wasn't. It was just not on the same level as any other platformers in the series... And there was no reason it couldn't be.

I loved NSMB, and IMO,it fits comfortably at the median of SMB games.

SMB3>SMW>NSMB>SMB1>SMB2 (the doki doki panic version; I've never played the lost levels version).

It was "good" in the sense that it was average... I mean, it entertained me while I played it, but I never had the urge to play it again after the first three days I owned it... And quite frankly, I'll say most games are good simply because while I'm playing most games, I'll be entertained even if the game sucks. But when you're putting a game in the Mario series, it has to be better than good, and it has to live up to certain benchmarks already established in the series. In that sense, NSMB is far from good.

SPOILERS SPOILERS (Only for true noobs!)

"One More Time..."

From Perfect Bracket to Perfectly Content...The Steve Illumina Summer Contest 06-1 ends this fortnight...

With a match for the ages...the eternal grudge match of GameFaqs endures for yet another season...

Link, Zelda, Ganon, Octorok, Hyrule, Death Mountain, The Hammer, Spectacle Rock, Ocarina, Gleeok, Oracles, Caps, Bug Catching Nets, Dodongos, Ladders, Magical Swords, Old Men, 250 Rupees for the Blue Ring, Waterfalls, Bombs, Lost Woods, Lost Hills, Graveyards, Money Making Games, Mirrors, Zelda Cereal System, Riding the Horse and swinging the Wii remote like a whip, 'En Garde!', and more...
VS
Sephy, Cloudy, Aeris, Tifa, Imps, Goblins, Ragnarok, Bahamut, Odin, Ultima, Materia, Crystals, Apollo, 'This guy are sick', SeeD, Kefka, Shin-Ra, Avalanche, Zeromus, Golbez, Emperor, Palmer, Gold Saucer, Galbadia Garden, Chocobo Forests, Garnet, Steiner, Operas, Yuna, Ivalice, Advent Children, Vinny, Cid, Weapons, Illumina Swords, and more...

Sage of Board 8's Pick: FF FOREVER! Call me a fanboy, for one day I am! *Grasps my Aeris figurine and holds it tightly!*
Noobs Pick: Zelda on their main account, FF on their Alts...
Angry RPG'rs Pick: Phantasy Star

The day we all knew was coming...even after a spirited effort by the Savior of Gaming today that we all should commend...in a contest marked by crazy controversies, crying modern era fanbabies who could not believe their precious Halo and GTA lost to old school based series, goofy Ceej site errors with Kindgom Hearts and Castlevania, pathetic performances by the first and prolly last sports game to make a contest field and an obscure RPG set, and the near upset of RE by SF that shocked even the most hardened zombie-lover. For tomorrow, August 1st...FF takes on Zelda...

FF is going to get the job done. Why? Because FF did more for gaming than Zelda did...and thats the only reason. FF propelled the Playstation to glory, propelled the SNES over the hapless Genesis and its progeny, brought thousands more gamers into the online gaming world with FFXI, brought millions of gamers into the RPG world to begin with, and inspired 2 movies that both made their mark in computer animation advancements.

Sure, Zelda did some things too...it was on a cereal box! :) It was on Captain N! It was always living in the shadow of Mario! But like the good #2 that it was all those years, it did its part in bringing memories to all of us for 20 years. And for that, it deserves all our love and respect tomorrow!

Its a tough task we have tomorrow...and its a pity one of these series has to lose...but since one must...it must be Zelda...for the honor of my firstborn's future name: Rydia!

I liked NSMB a lot ;>_> Yes, the new items were relatively unneeded, but Mini Mushrooms and Blue Shells are alot of fun. I do alot of playing level all the way though with the blue shell. The Mega Mushroom was good for... extra lives!

I'm also a big fan of the wall jump, and I suppose it was nice to have bosses that weren't all Koopalings/Bowser... although I'd defintely prefer having the Koopalings in the towers in place of Bowser Jr...

It's too bad they left out the racoon/cape (having either would have been nice) and Yoshi, though.

Are you seriously trying to imply that Mario games DON'T have certain things to live up to? There is no reason that NSMB couldn't have a single world map or have items that actually get implemented creatively into level designs. They'd had ten years to think of some new ideas.

When I judge games, I try not to think about whatever crap it has to 'live up to'. I try to judge them individually. I find that I enjoy games a lot more that way.

SMB3 doesn't have one either, yet it's widely considered best. I don't see the issue.

or have items that actually get implemented creatively into level designs.

The blue shell and mini mushroom are used well sometimes.... ;>_>

They'd had ten years to think of some new ideas

Assuming the same people make all of the Mario games, then they've only had since Mario Sunshine to think of ideas.

Or something, I don't know. It's probably not the same people who made SMW making NSMB. Or maybe it is.
