NSMB was so disappointing.

NSMB was so disappointing.

Finally, someone who agrees with me. The problem I had with NSMB is it lacked the creativity and originality that make Mario games fun.

I honestly HATED the save system as well: portable games are made to be turned off-and-on and I don't like putting the game into "sleep" mode. I tend to swap portable games back and forth every 10 minutes or so (I'm sure many others do) and this simply did not work for me.

It's a good game, just not the "EPIC COMEBACK" everyone was expected. As far as I'm concerned: Paper Mario 2 was that comeback (it had creativity and originality) and not enough people played it.

I just beat NSMB yesterday. Too easy to take out bosses if you want. Just save up a Giant Mushroom, and use it...

But I dont feel the same satisfaction or rush as when I beat SMB 3 or something...

I'm currently playing it. It's good, but doesn't hold a candle to previous 2D Mario platformers.

The game I was most excited for turned out one of the worst game from my initial batch of DS games when I got my DS Lite.

It did have stiff competition though. CV:DOS, Trauma Center, Brain Age and AV:DS gave it a tough battle.

I'll tell you what it's lacking. It's lacking creative level design, awesome items, 2D graphics, and the old-school, tried and true Mario soul.

Two hours plus to rake in a total of less than 2000 votes?

I'd bet various vital parts of my anatomy that Mario will take the MIL title.

It was very, very good, but too easy, even in comparison to other Sonic games.

Wanna know why you all felt like NSMB was a dissapointment? Because it didn't have your precious flying powerup.

Not exactly. It's more like the exclusion of the flying power-up closed many possibilities as far as creative level design is concerned. Couple that with the fact the NEW items were underutilized to a disgusting degree and the world map, instead of feeling wholistic as in SMW, felt bland and disjointed, and you suddenly have the makings of a very meh game.

I enjoyed NSMB. It's definitely no SMB3 or SMW, but it's decent enough.

At least the Mini Mushroom's fun to play with. They could've done much more with the Blue Shell, though.

Aesthetics. It does add something to the game. It doesn't really affect the gameplay itself, but it does affect how much you like the game. I've barely played it, but I already could see where people were coming from. Something just doesn't measure up. From what I've played so far, it goes behind SMB3, SMW, and SMW2 as far as the 2D platformers go.

I believe the major flaw with NSMB is its items system. Giant Mario should have never been in the game. All it does is it gives you a bunch of lives, or allows you to easily defeat a boss.

Mini-Mario is pretty much only good for to get to an alternate exit. He makes playing the game harder, since you are vulnerable and it makes things tougher to kill. Blue Shell Mario is pretty much worthless, other than for alternate exits.

It makes the game easier just to be Fire Mario in the levels, and grab a Giant Mushroom before the final castle. It lacks the diversity of SMB3 or SMW...

But that might just be me...

Precisely. That's all due to the lack of creative level designs. They could have very easily had at least one level where you had to be the blue shell the whole way through.

That was freakin genius level design. Every level emphasized on some basic skill you needed to complete the game. It was amazing.

If NSMB has one level on par with any of the Star Road/Secret levels, it would be a significantly better game.
