all of the things that look way out of place are on Squall's side

...What things? Personally, Squall being as strong as SC2K5 implies actually makes more sense than if he isn't.
---
Squall, Tidus, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden
Presea, Chun-Li, Tifa, Celes, Quistis, Amy Rose, Mei Ling

Squall has a pretty good role in KHII. I think even moreso than in KH1.

So the consensus of the powers that be is Squall over Auron I take it?

Well, Vincent got 45% on Crono, and Squall wasn't far behind. Auron got about the same on Ganondorf, and Ganondorf ain't in the same league as Crono.

Alrighty. Thanks for answering the question. I now know where to go if I need help.

Or if I'm being chased down a dark alley in the middle of the night... And I run into a dead end... And the mugs have knives, I know who will come to my aid.

Squall has a pretty good role in KHII. I think even moreso than in KH1.

He has a nice role in KH2, no doubt. I just find it more likely for Vincent to stay ahead of him with Dirge of Cerberus (TV advertisement for Vincent will be nice), Advent Children being out to the masses, and any type of influx of Square fans we may get from Kingdom Hearts II. Squall really only benefits from one of those. That and the fact he already beat him before makes me confident enough to take him in a rematch.

Anyone who happens to be unaware of Vincent won't be for very long. Dirge of Cerberus advertisements should start appearing soon.

I'd be curious to see Auron up against either Tifa or Aeris. I'm really not sure how that would break.

ALL YOUR VOTES ARE BELONG TO...Pac-Man?
Lopen | Posted 7/31/2006 4:38:34 PM | message detail
Squall went up by like ~3% for no real reason, Knuckles went up by ~5% for no real reason, and Magus also went up a few % considering you'd expect him to be about even with Tidus from their 2k3 matches. (Neither one had a real reason to really go up or down)

You can say Knuckles should go up a bit because Sonic did... but I don't agree with that much.

Pfft. Vincent's a tool, and so are most FF VII fans. Squall's the perfect anti-hero, Vincent's not even a shadow, a sliver even.

Try me, FF VII fans! Your game isn't that great! It's plot dies at the end and the battle system's weak! I laughed when Aeris died! Ha! Hahahahahaha!!!

Squall went up by like ~3% for no real reason

Or...he was there all along (Hello there, Link/Samus SFF!). And personally, Kirby's boost was nothing short of ludicrous if Squall wasn't there all along. Same for Luigi, only not quite as extreme.

Knuckles boosted, like Sonic did. And remember that Crono DID boost every year until 2005. Magus could have boosted enough in 2004 to put him a little more ahead of Tidus than he already was.

I think you're crazy to think Squall now beats Vincent with 54% of the vote just because of KHII. To say he wins, okay it was only 50.59% for Vincent, but I don't see KHII doing that much, especially considering that the KH factor is supposed to raise all Square representatives, not just the ones that appear in it, because if it's the ones that appear in it, it's been said before, Sephiroth is going to take down the contest.

Like Leonhart with Squall, I would take Bowser over anybody that he even has a chance to beat. That includes Squall. I personally don't think that KH2 will do that much more for Squall, otherwise you're looking for a Tifa, Cloud, Sephy, Vivi, whoever else boost as well. I personally don't think that Squall's role was anywhere near as influential or memorable as it was in the first Kingdom Hearts. And it's not like Squall wasn't already pretty strong. I don't think Squall moves much from where he is, which is already pretty high.

I put Bowser and Squall on the same level, with Zero being right there with them (had to mention Zero)!!, and Auron trailing behind them. Auron was probably on that level in 2k3/2k4, but I think FFX as a whole has slipped a bit.

Actually, scratch that. I forgot about Auron's KH2 performance. Even though I'm not a big fan of his, I can see a bit of the fanfare he got from KH2. He definitely has a bigger presence than Squall in that game. He's more comparable to Squall in KH1. KH2 probably closes some of the gap that Auron lost, although I still wouldn't put him on Squall's level in the FF food chain.

Auron had a very cool role in Kingdom Hearts II, my favorite by far at least. He was awesome any time you got to see him, and the ending scene with him is quite fitting. Heh.

He's not going to be on Squall's level, but he'll definitely be up there around that 30 - 32% area, I think.

140k votes! Time for another comparison!

Final Fantasy/Super Mario Bros. - 140,672
Metal Gear/Kingdom Hearts - 122,490

FF/SMB has 14.84% more votes than MG/KH. Based on MG/KH's final tally of 137,513, this match is projected to end with:

157,925 votes.

Slowed down just a tad relative to KH/MG since the last update. 160k looks unlikely, but Cloud/Link's record could still be outdone by 10k votes.

Final Fantasy did very well with the evening after a weaker day vote, but the last three 15 minute updates have all been just under 47% for Mario. With only another 15-20k more votes coming in (yeah, only), the percentages should be relatively stable for the close of the match.

Uhh...no. Bowser serves the role of final boss and little else in NSMB, just like he does in many other Mario games.

Nintendo characters really don't need "great performances" to get boost from their games. Nintendo's strength is in numbers. There haven't really been any Nintendo killer apps in a while. Their boost comes from numbers (and the DS). I've said before that Nintendo characters don't really need individual games and significant appearances to get boosts, although most people don't agree with me...

Match XXXI: (1) The Legend of Zelda vs. (1) Final Fantasy

Past Matches

The Legend of Zelda
Defeated Civilization, 89.97% - 10.03%
Defeated Mega Man X, 80.32% - 19.68%
Defeated Metroid, 84.70% - 15.30%
Defeated Metal Gear, 73.74% - 26.26%

Final Fantasy
Defeated Diablo, 85.98% - 14.02%
Defeated Mega Man, 74.19% - 25.81%
Defeated Resident Evil, 76.06% - 23.94%
Defeated Super Mario Bros, 53.00% - 47.00% (estimate)

Analysis:

The Legend of Zelda continues to dominate by crushing Metal Gear into the ground, what was to be the best candidate for fourth will now probably get sixth (or seventh if Final Fantasy beats LoZ by a lot). Final Fantasy on the other hand had to comeback from behind after losing to SMB during the first hour of the poll. As of now Final Fantasy is comfortably beating SMB on what will be a new record for highest vote total and SMB is on pace of becoming the most impressive loser.

Welcome to the finals and unsurprisingly it is LoZ vs. Final Fantasy. When I first did my bracket I had Final Fantasy winning and thought it would have no troubles winning the contest, but as the actual contest ran on, both SMB and LoZ showed signs that it could go for the upset (LoZ showed more) and now I think Final Fantasy will be in a fight for its life.

The reason why I took Final Fantasy as the champion was that the fans of its series are more diverse than any other series. Sure in most series there are people who like a couple games from the series and hate the others, but usually it’s a consensus. For Final Fantasy there are people who liked FFVI, but hate VII and vice versa and that works for almost all games in the series. Sure that all happens to most series, but it’s even more so with Final Fantasy.

Even though LoZ will be the favorite going into the match I still think Final Fantasy will pull it off. I have a feeling that the SMB series is closer to LoZ than what most people expected and wouldn’t be surprised (though really happy) if SMB was stronger than LoZ, thought it is very, very unlikely. Hopefully this will be the first final where it is actually interesting past the morning vote. Also expect the vote totals to pushing a staggering 170k votes.

charmander6000’s Prediction: Final Fantasy wins, 51.31% - 48.69%

A comparison to Zelda/Metal Gear, just for the fun of it. (And because we might be better served by looking at the most recent match for any comparison.)

@ 20:30--

Zelda/MG -- 116955 votes.
Mario/FF -- 141908 votes.

A 21.33 percent increase, which, using zelda/mg's final total, gives us a projected 160600 votes.

Let's hope the Crew favors Zelda. It'll make it all the better when I get that final point!!

Meh. I think Squall takes Auron and Kirby comfortably, wins in a nailbiter with Bowser, and still loses to Vincent...

Of course, my opinion means nothing here >_>

Actually, Your wrong. It made me like Bowser more than what I used to. I thought Bowser was badass in NSMB. The game brought my respect for him up a little bit. BUT WHOAMG THATS JUST ME AND ONLY ME. COULDN'T BE THE SAME WITH ANYONE ELSE!@!

You're entirely convinced that NSMB is just as good as, if not better than, the old Mario games, so there is a very good chance that it is just you.
