Match 31 - Legend of Zelda vs Final Fantasy We've reached the incredibly obvious final after 30 days worth of mindless obvious matches, the occasional believable update and some downright daft results. As is, I'm starting to regret my pick of Final Fantasy. Right now, Mario is keeping things respectably close to FF, much closer than my "FF should start to be worried" line that I thought about yesterday. 53% and slowly rising isn't that great, if we consider a few things: - Zelda is obv stronger than Mario - Mario has shown strength in precisely one match in this entire contest up until now - Zelda has crushed everything in its path, 80% in all up until the final where it was quite close to tripling Metal Gear - FF has shown (relative) weakness. Apart from crushing Diablo, it's done little more than expected, if not worse. Failing to triple Mega Man, only just tripling RE. The only question is whether Zelda, which has a fairly similar fanbase to Mario by definition, will be able to close down the few percent to take it from what Mario is doing right now to the victory. I see no reason why it can't, apart from the possibility that the (probable) huge vote totals will somehow favour FF in the same way that Cloud was in the 2003 victory over Link. Oh god, it really is too close to call. I'm just glad I don't have a decent bracket riding on it. But I'm calling the upset. Because it's exciting. (edit from the other topic - er, yeah, I just saw what Mario did for an hour. I'm thinking that we're going to have another Best Game Ever contest
next spring. Ceej is likely waiting for Twilight Princess' release
before doing another one, since it's the one game that can cause a

Hmmm...I wonder how big FF's lead will be at the end. Like Janus and
Ulti have said, I doubt percentages mean as much when vote totals are

hmm... between the match picture (don't believe much in this, but it's
there), "it's friggin' Mario" and the possibility of other Mario side
series helping out Mario, I'm feeling more and more confident about FF

One could probably argue that the first and last ten posts of every
contest stat discussion is a waste, as they typically have little to do
with the actual topic. I'm still amazed at today's results. I didn't think Mario would put up this much of a fight at all, yet judging from many topics on the board, there's a number of people who expected Mario to win this fight. The only thing that could make this stranger is if Mario puts up a better fight than Zelda. I hope that doesn't happen, as I'll have no idea what to think.
