He should've done something like Leonhart suggested: FFT Cloud -- AC Cloud. Too bad it doesn't fit the "First Game -> Next Game" theme. It's SMB/FF1 and SMG/FF12. Changing the point of the theme just to satisfy the Cloud-drone fanboys would be pretty damn biased as well. FF1 Knight and FF12 Ashe fit the theme perfectly. FFT Cloud/AC Cloud doesn't, because not only did FFT come out ten years after Final Fantasy, it came out after FF7. So why start with the game that came out after the most reknown game in the FF series? And ending it with a character from a movie? Come on, this is a games contest. That would just be horribly biased. I don't think I need to mention that I love what I'm seeing. The final looking a lot more interesting is a bonus. So, what's stronger, Megaman or Metal Gear? Match 30 - Super Mario Bros vs Final Fantasy With Zelda beating down Metal Gear in an incredibly impressive fashion, not looking in any danger whatsoever of dropping below 70%, Final Fantasy is going to have to come up with an impressive performance in order to go into the final matchup as favourite. It's clear enough that it will make the final, seeing how Mario only managed to put up 61% on Smash Bros despite SSB having the worst picture in the world. That ought to put any murmurings of an upset straight out of the window. The question in this match is how big a win would FF require to be considered the favourite in the final matchup. I think it needs to win without ever being in danger of losing at any point. If it manages 60% or more, it should be home and hosed. If it struggles to beat Mario at any point, Zelda will take it to the cleaners. Anywhere in between and we could have a close, hard to call final. And I think Mario can get into the forties in this match. I'm almost shocked that neither Raiden or Peach managed to find their
way into a match picture. Unless, of course, Mario pulls a miracle

The Zelda supporters just aren't receptive to the possibility of
losing. Half of them aren't even aware that Link has ever lost,
actually. I've had shocked replies EVERY time I've linked to Link/Cloud
2k3, many simply assume that Link was taken out of 2k3 (and Ceej
doesn't exactly help this with his "Cloud over Sephiroth" quote. And
others aren't even aware that a Games Contest ever happened (and thus
aren't aware that the much-hyped all-Zelda Final Four turned into a
Zelda-free Final Four). So if you don't know that Link beat Cloud,
don't even know that there was a Games Contest, and know that Link has
dominated for all of recent memory...honestly, what reason does a

the Cloud-drone fanboys would be pretty damn biased as well. I said "something like". It doesn't necessarily have to be Cloud. Using this theme in a match like SMB-FF just causes an inherent SMB advantage. It's always Mario. FF is represented by some of the most unknown characters of the series. Of course, the theme was created during LoZ - MG, so it's expectable Cjay would stick with it for the round. And yet, he has shown before not to hold to the round theme very strictly. He could've easily gotten away with an AC pic. FF1 Knight and FF12 Ashe fit the theme perfectly. FFT Cloud/AC Cloud doesn't, because not only did FFT come out ten years after Final Fantasy, it came out after FF7. So why start with the game that came out after the most reknown game in the FF series? Theme-wise, that's not doable indeed. But like I said, Cjay wasn't too strict with the themes before. Although FFT would be really late to start with anyway, I guess. But even then the FF1 representation is freakishly ugly. He could've used a Black Mage sprite or something like that. That and Ashe not picking her nose would've been a lot better already, whilst fitting the theme perfectly as well. And ending it with a character from a movie? Come on, this is a games contest. That would just be horribly biased. It's the same character.. It's not like Cjay hasn't used AC pics before. The pic works for the theme it represents, and I can't see how any sound-minded individual would argue that FFT Cloud/AC Cloud would fit the theme better than characters from the beginning and the upcoming FF. whatever). Nobody ever brings up Link and Cloud never beating each

It's just that Zelda HAS impressed. While most expected it to SFF MMX
and Metroid, most did not expect to the extend that it happened. And

I wouldn't have minded Ceej sticking a Knight from FF1 and AC Cloud. In
the very least it would have made the picture more balanced. We've seen
plenty of variety for FF in this contest. I think Cloud deserved to be
in the picture today. Besides, even though FFVII is several years old,
Advent Children was released this year, and is pretty much the newest FF related thing (besides the GBA game) that has been released in
America. It's not like it would have been cheating the theme... There
is no strict law that says every pic has to be exactly the same

Yeah, I once saw a fanboy arguing for Final Fantasy say that Starcraft destroyed Wind Waker. Yeah... Hmm...a completely pointless question. Say Zelda was exactly the same game, but for purely aesthetic value you played as a different character for every new Zelda game. So basically you've got a bunch of different main characters, a la Final Fantasy, instead of Link. Let's divide them like this. Zelda 1&2 Hero Link to the Past/Link's Awakening Hero Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask Hero Wind Waker Hero Twilight Princess Hero The only difference between the Heroes are names and appearances, really (but the differences are drastic, so that no one is confused). The games themselves remain more or less the same. Now, for a real twist, let's say that Zelda and Ganon/Ganondorf are in all of these games, unlike the Heroes themselves. The question is: how are these Heroes ordered in terms of strength? Where do Zelda and Ganon fit in? And lastly, how would these characters stack up in an actual contest? ...yeah, I'm really bored. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. Also keep in mind that most of these "casual n00bs" have probably never
heard of SFF and have no idea when to expect it. To the untrained eye,
85% on Metroid is infinitely more impressive than 74% on Mega Man. --- Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your WOOOOOOOOORLD!!! |

Question: Out of all the entrants, which match would you most like to see at this point? I'd go for Sonic Vs. Metal Gear. I think Metal Gear Vs. Megaman would be a good match at this point, and since Sonic has a good shot at ending up higher than Megaman in the stats, I think it would be interesting. --- ertyu and VeghEsther are truly proof that there is much about this world we still do not understand. |

Honestly, I'd argue that a Black Mage sprite followed by Yuna from X2
would essentially fit the theme perfectly (FF12 hasn't been released
yet in the US and FF11 is an MMORPG) and has the advantage that most
people might actually recognize the characters. I mean, it's not like he's using Mario's picture from something like Super Mario Strikers or something. |

The thing is, all the "current-day" pics are from games that haven't
yet been released in the US. Twilight Princess, MGS4, Super Mario

If Mega Man does take Sonic and give Metal Gear a fight, then it really
has to be the most "all-inclusive" series this side of Mario. Fans of
Mega Man X, Mega Man Zero, Mega Man Battle Network, and whatever the
hell else he has must be voting for it without question or thought,
because there's no way I'd believe that a series almost exclusive to

LoZ's impressing today. For FF winning the contest on its very first
update, it looks like it's becoming more and more vurnerable as the
rounds progress. Yes, we already knew that LoZ has a super-easy road to
the championship thanks to SFF and we already know that SMB > MG so
it'll be fairly hard to make a great comparison for the final
