Match 29 - Legend Of Zelda vs Metal Gear Nearing the end of the contest now, and we still have nice, easy to call matches. Zelda hasn't managed less than 80% or 100,000 votes in any of the three rounds so far, and for the most part it wasn't facing fodder either. Metal Gear, on the other hand, has done enough, winning with slowly dropping percentages - less than 70% in round 1 but managing a doubling, just under a doubling in round 2 and slipping to under 60% in round 3. It's got to where was expected of it, without looking massively convincing at any stage. Metal Gear should be just about strong enough to avoid the kind of blowout that Zelda's been managing on everyone thus far, but will still get beaten heavily enough. I think a doubling is odds on, 70% isn't out of the question, but a tripling seems optimistic. Either way, it's just filler time for what could be a moderately interesting semi final and, hopefully, a great final. I'd be suprised if Zelda doesn't break 70% here. Maybe even a tripling. This is Gamefaqs we're talking about! IIRC, from 2006 x-stats. Link is predicted to get something like 73% on Snake. I dont think that will be too far off. --- Smurf. The cream of SONIC Fanboyism. |

No, he didn't mention the ToC. But the way he worded how they were
guaranteed spots, as well as saying "this year's twist" when referring
to the whole gender thing, it doesn't look like we're having one this

Well, 75% on FF isn't *too* inspiring, especially considering that Resident Evil isn't going to be that far away from it (though the distance is likely going to be enough). Most people don't think that Metal Gear SFFed Kingdom Hearts in its last match (so it getting 58% is more or less legitimate). Most people would take Kingdom Hearts over Street Fighter, and that's damn close to RE, pic factor or not. That's a lot of ground to make up. I will say that if you specify that it's in the sprite round, you get a lot more people taking Mega Man. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. Which reminds me, that's a whole lot of ifs, but if the contest starts
on September 1st, Link gets the overall 1-seed and the October 2nd
rumor turns out to be true, then Link gets his second round match the
day after TP comes out. Oh joy. Personally, in the interest of competition, I hope the contest starts sooner than later. I still say male/female tag teams is the only way this "twist" can work
remotely well. Having a split bracket with males and females just lets
too much fodder in and denies entrance to reasonably strong males. Give
me a 64-entry tag-team tournament and then we're talking potential

September 1st is the absolute latest I can see the contest
starting too. The fact that CJayC is running nominations so early seems
to imply he wants to get this thing rolling as quickly as possible. The
nominations closing sometime in the next few days and a bracket shortly
