Ultima Division: Round 3 - Match 28 – (1)Final Fantasy vs. (2)Resident Evil Moltar’s Analysis Final Fantasy - If we’re talking in power, FF is more scary than ANY horror game. Round 1 – 85.98% vs. Diablo (14.02%) Round 2 – 74.19% vs. Mega Man (25.81%) Mega Man is able to avoid the tripling from FF. Resident Evil - I’d like to order one Jill Sandwich, please. Round 1 – 87.76% vs. Shadow Hearts (12.24%) Round 2 – 50.73% vs. Street Fighter (49.27%) In the closest match of Round 2, RE squeaks by SF. The final match of Round 3…what a boring round this was. You know what, this one is going to be another blow out too! Not because it’s Final Fantasy, but because of SFF! No, not that SFF were two characters from the same company share a fanbase and the majority sides with the stronger character. But the weird kind were two seemingly un-related series share just one thing in common and something weird happens so we just label it SFF! A good example of this is how Metal Gear flops every time it faces something FF7 related. One could say that since FF7 and MGS were two popular Playstation games and share a similar fanbase, Sony fans will side with the stronger game. In this case, FF7. Now, we haven’t seen FF directly own something RE-related, but Resident Evil got slaughtered in 2004 by MGS, which went on to get slaughtered by FF7. So does logic apply here? Who knows…Then again, RE2 and RE4 are stronger than the original RE anyway, so maybe it was just very weak. Anyway, I would already say Mega Man is stronger than Resident Evil, so RE is getting tripled. Now add in some fishysticks and FF wins with around 80%. I now demand everyone take 5 seconds to laugh at Shadow Hearts. Moltar’s Bracket Says: Final Fantasy will win. Moltar’s Prediction is: Final Fantasy: 79% - Resident Evil: 21% Ulti’s Analysis Blowout expected, and a blowout we shall have. The question is whether RE beats MM's score on FF or not, though I doubt it does. I'm fairly sure MM is the favorite Capcom series on GameFAQs, though that was before Resident Evil 4... Prediction: FF with 75.01% Soul’s Analysis FF defeated Mega Man with 74.19% Resident Evil defeated Street Fighter with 50.73% WHAT A SLAWBERKNOCKER! Let's see where we lie here. Final Fantasy killed Mega Man, while Resident Evil struggled against Street Fighter. On the Capcom totem pole, Mega Man is stronger then Resident Evil, which is stronger then Street Fighter. So basically, the result of this match will be Final Fantasy winning with more then 74.19%. How much stronger is Mega Man compared to Resident Evil? Mega Man got 64% on Leon Kennedy, proving that RE4 has some strength on this site. Other then RE4, the only other RE game that has some popularity is RE2, but it's all overshadowed by RE4. So if Leon can only get 64% on Mega Man, I'm thinking Final Fantasy is about to get another blowout here. My x-stats calculations are entirely off, so best estimates... My prediction: Final Fantasy wins with 83.01% of the vote. Mnm’s Analysis Battle Music: The Dark Messenger (FFIX) For some reason, I could care less about this matchup. We all know that Final Fantasy is going to destroy Resident Evil. The question is by how much. In the games contest, there is good indication that RE may have been SFF'd by MGS, which in turn was SFF'd by FFVII. Now RE directly faces the FF juggernaut, except this time with a tad of the Nintendo fanbase supporting it with the huge success of RE4. It won't matter though. FF has its eyes on Mario Bros. and Zelda, and RE is just a blip on the radar. 20% = success for Resident Evil. Bracket: FF Vote: FF Prediction: Final Fantasy with 79% |

Leon’s Analysis While Final Fantasy didn’t quite triple Mega Man, it still found a way to impress, somehow breaking 100,000 individual votes yet again and pulling in the second highest vote total these contests have ever seen. 135,000 votes in a blowout? Final Fantasy is proving that it is THE vote-drawing power in this contest. While the Legend of Zelda is pulling in higher percentages (though this has been expected for various reasons), Final Fantasy has consistently been pulling in more overall votes. Either way, the final match is shaping up to be loaded, and while I think Final Fantasy is still the favorite, the Legend of Zelda still has the potential to surprise. However, the only thing we’re really going to find out in this particular match is the Capcom pecking order. We’ve already discovered that Resident Evil is slightly favored over Street Fighter (though people would argue that the only reason Street Fighter got so close was because of the extremely unbalanced picture), but how do they compare to Mega Man? To be quite honest, I can’t see either one surpassing the Blue Bomber, and definitely not BOTH of them (which is basically what would have to be the case if Resident Evil outdoes Mega Man), but yet somehow, it wouldn’t be a total shock. Some people are also calling for some measure of “SFF” by Final Fantasy against Resident Evil, though I’m not so sure about that one. It has shown itself to be capable of overperforming on series primarily featured on the Playstation, so once again, it wouldn’t be a total surprise. Really though, the fun thing to see about this match is how low can Shadow Hearts go in the stats! If Final Fantasy manages a quadrupling or better, Yuri and company will register at less than 5% in the stats! How exciting! With that, Shadow Hearts will now create a triumvirate of suck, joining Tanner and Adventure for a combined force that couldn’t even defeat Mr. Driller! Now go for that quadrupling, Final Fantasy! Tranny’s indie cred is riding on this one! Leonhart’s Prediction: Final Fantasy with 80.08% Yoblazer’s Analysis Final Fantasy showed us it was vulnerable against Mega Man, but it will be back in cyborg-like form tonight. Actually, you know somethin'? I think that Zelda assumes the role of "cyborg" better than any other series. It seems to destroy everything in its path without thought, emotion, or mercy. It's simply executing protocol. Final Fantasy, on the other hand, is the "great warrior." Like any human, it is subject to flashes of its own mortality (Mega Man) but its great victories are truly out of this world (Diablo). ...Anyway, despite REMake, RE0, and RE4, we all know a majority of Resident Evil fans are Playstation fans. We also know that Final Fantasy dominates all things Playstation with an iron fist, and after watching what Metal Gear Solid did to Resident Evil two years ago before getting destroyed itself, no one should expect anything impressive from Capcom's series. Bottom line - ugly match. Final Fantasy + Strongest game on this site + Several other very popular games + Spans several consoles and eras + It's the backbone of GameFAQs + Credibility up the wazoo - Nothing Resident Evil + Incredible first round performance + Good history and credibility + Hugely popular game was released just last year + Whored out like a mother + Established a genre - Its Playstation fanbase will abandon it in great numbers - It's going to get killed My prediction: Final Fantasy def. Resident Evil (81-19) |

HM’s Analysis Final Fantasy Previous Matches : Final Fantasy – 85.98% -- 107,648 Diablo – 17,560 Final Fantasy – 74.19% -- 100,574 Mega Man – 25.81% -- 34,988 Resident Evil Previous Matches : Resident Evil – 87.76% -- 97,696 Shadow Hearts – 12.24% -- 13,627 Street Fighter – 49.27% -- 60,308 Resident Evil – 50.73% -- 62,087 Surprisingly, Resident Evil barely managed to scrap by in the last round against Street Fighter. On the other hand, Final Fantasy put up a rather expected performance that did sway its chances of winning one way or the other. This match should not be a good gauge of anything either given the fact that it could potentially result in some SFF being at play here. Still, you have to figure it will need to perform well in the wake of Zelda’s continued dominance in this contest. Last round, Final Fantasy started out rather weird by not even doubling Mega Man at the first five minutes of the poll. This led many to speculate that the home of the Blue Bomber had basically snatched up the spot as the fourth strongest series in the contest. But, to surprise too many, Final Fantasy went on a rampage and went from not even doubling to nearly tripling by the end of the match. Final Fantasy’s mid-70s performance puts it right where it needs to be to continue to look good at snatching up the championship. Resident Evil, however, put on a rather poor performance going by expectations. Those of us who sided with the survival horror series overshot just how strong Resident Evil would be or undershot just how strong Street Fighter would be. I, myself, went with a solid 54% for Resident Evil, which wasn’t too far from the final percentage. Still, Street Fighter definitely impressed by nearly getting the upset that a couple of others were hoping for. Regardless of its performance, it stands no chance against the beast in this round. Ultimately, this match is going to be a complete blowout. It will be interesting to see if there is any type of SFF in this match-up. If it exceeds 80%, I’m almost convinced there would be, but if Resident Evil can hold strong and keep this in between 75% - 79%, I’d be genuinely impressed by its performance. That said, I cannot imagine Final Fantasy failing to break 80% here, even if it’s only by a little. Aitch Emm’s Bracket : Final Fantasy Aitch Emm’s Prediction : Final Fantasy – 80.15% ; Resident Evil – 19.85% Aitch Emm’s Vote : Final Fantasy |

I'd also be cautious about FF maybe even SFF'ing RE -- if FF7 SFF'd MGS after MGS SFF'd RE and if that chain held true so that FF7 could SFF RE, then alot of the RE series would be up for SFF against FF...but that's probably ignorable unless we see this become an 85-15 match. Final Fantasy wins with 77.12% Lopen’s Analysis Final Fantasy smashes things, it smashes em good. Lopen's Prediction: Final Fantasy with 82.61%. … Not enough? Want to read more of my great writing? Fine… I'll just say that Street Fighter would do better here. Yeah, PS SFF will help to crush the enemy. Not to a Metroid-like pulp, mind you, because the big gun RE4's pretty isolated from the evil Final Fantasy dominion, so it'll be spared. There aren't any Gamecube FF titles, right? Oh, no… FINAL FANTASY CRYSTAL CHRONICLES!? WHY!?????? Lopen's Prediction:(hey, it's the same!) Final Fantasy with 82.61%. Comments: Ok, we were wrong today, but THIS will be a blowout. |

It just struck me that if the character bracket follows an 8x8 format,
is 32-male, 32-female each with their own half, and ToC-less, the
1-seeds have a good chance at going 12 for 12 for winning divisions
this year. Clinkeroth and Mario are foregone conclusions, so is Samus
(in fact, I'd love to know how many people nominated her just because
they couldn't think of enough worthwhile females)... that leaves us
with three divisions. What comes after Samus is obviously the
Tifa/Aeris/Zelda trio, and if they monopolize the remaining 1-seeds
(which would be a bad idea, why later), I can't see anyone out of these
losing. Now, that would be a terrible idea. Why? Imagine the Sweet 16 under that setup. You've got the 8 aforementioned characters, and 8 others who cannot possibly win. So basically, outside of the first two rounds, the only matches that can generate any excitement are Link/Cloud, and the two Tifa/Aeris/Zelda characters that aren't in Samus' quarter of the bracket. So effectively, the other one would go to waste, like Bowser did in the villain contest. So my ideal setup for the female half would be Samus with her own division, Peach with her own division right next to it, either Tifa or Aeris with her own division after that, and finally Zelda as a 1-seed with Aeris or Tifa (whoever remains) as a 2. (I'm only suggesting Zelda as a 1 because four FF7 characters as 1-seeds would be, well, ridiculous.) --- i thought people on gamefaqs had good taste in games i guess i was wrong -EstUmbra Oooh... I noticed that yesterday. you basically have to give Samus a free pass
to the semifinals in order to make it halfway interesting, barring
something freaky happening. on the boy's side, you've got four noble

the fun of hyping up a 48-pointer. That process has been entertaining
as hell this contest, and it's the first time in two years we're having

Bringing the ToC back won't change a thing. Instead of having
Clinkeroth and Mario as locks, you're having the other male half of the
Noble Nine. And I think a demotion to a 2-seed would be done to the
benefit of Master Chief before anyone else. Sure, it's a nice casual
trap (just look at his prediction percentage against Crono), but we all
know Chief will lose. --- i thought people on gamefaqs had good taste in games i guess i was wrong -EstUmbra Oooh... Yeah... I need... condom... sixty nine!! -IENJOYHAM |

But the thing is, you've got one Noble Niner who's just begging to be
upset, and this is the last chance any Non-Noble Niner will ever have
to do it. I'll go so far as to say this is the last chance the Noble
Nine in its entirety will ever have a chance to be upset, ever. If
you've got a 32-entrant male side with no ToC, you're more likely to
have Snake run smack dab into Cloud or Link before he hits Vincent or
Ganondorf. There are a TON of interesting matchups that just won't
materialize in a field like that. Maybe in a 64 field they would, but
in a 32 field it simply wouldn't happen. 32 females simply do not deserve to make the contest. Period. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

I'm glad we're drawing the same conclusions. 48 MALES, 16 FEMALES, CJAYC. YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO. It's not being a chauvinist. In the 10 strongest characters, there's one female. In the 20 (25?) strongest, there are four. They're just less popular because they're condemned to support roles is all (Samus aside).
