A hypothesis: Final Fantasy, the series, is the absolute peak of contest performance. The number of votes that FF lost from last round are the number of people who "betrayed" FF (likes both, voted MM). A lot. Resident Evil has most of its base on the Playstation, with
basically only RE4 to diversify itself. And I'm convinced there's not a
single PS1 game that FFVII wouldn't overperform on. There's only one
that is debateably bigger than MGS -- and that's FFVIII. That speaks
volumes. Resident Evil is going to get massacred. We're talking Zelda/MMX, maybe even Zelda/Metroid type destruction here. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

Match 28 - Final Fantasy vs Resident Evil And now we get the fourth 1 seed making its way into the semi finals. And this one won't be close either. The pre-tournament favourite crushed Diablo before somehow failing to triple Mega Man. Resident Evil killed Shadow Hearts, and then showed that it was due to horrendous weakness from its opponent as it only just snuck past Street Fighter, pretty much a one-game series, by less than 2000 votes. Not much more to say about this really. I'd probably take Mega Man over Resident Evil, so I think FF does a little better than in the last round. Just about a trebling will do here. Is it worth a feedback ticket to ask Ceej to look individually at every
entrant that gets X number of nominations and combine them when

Wow. I expected SSB to do better than the Analysis Crew thought it

about that. Heh, I was actually thinking about that when I typed in 'Sheena Fujibayashi'. I'd figure most people wouldn't bother typing her last name since it's so easy to misspell. I know you specified on the form this time to spell correctly and use english names (Aeris) and for that we are thankful, but we now have another issue. Do we use first and last name or just first? Even on the bracket, we don't always know if you'll use both names - Cloud's last name of Strife is never mentioned in the game, for instance. So people nominating, say, Celes from FFVI seem to be splitting the nominations between Celes and Celes Chere. "Sephiroth was only an optional boss fight!" ranks right up there with "Vincent was only an optional character!" when it comes to a lack of common sense. It's related to FF7. Since it looks like it's going to be crucial in the upcoming contest,
I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on the Aeris/Tifa/Zelda trio. I'd
go with Tifa > Aeris > Zelda, but I wouldn't exclude any
combination. One thing's for sure, though: assuming there's no ToC, I can't possibly see Vincent coming back. We'll already be having Cloud and Sephiroth on one side, and either Aeris or Tifa missing the cut is highly unlikely. Vincent only did marginally better than Cid or Rufus or other fan
favorites from FFVII would have done. It's not him, it's FFVII. Now maybe after Dirge of Cerberus you'd have a point, but I really don't think it's Vincent. It's FFVII. --- Sousuke!! |

From the nomination form: Use a character's full name when possible, and make sure you spell the character's name correctly, as it is used in the English-language version of the game (i.e. "Crono", "Aeris"). I agree that he should come back in a gimmickless bracket, but as I
said, bringing him back in a split bracket means a big representation

I seriously doubt CJayC would go so far as to put FIVE FF7 characters in the contest. It's a popularity contest, so obviously putting the most popular characters in makes no sense. ...I don't get where you're going with that, but whatever. Out of the
actual 64 most popular characters on this site, you probably have 10
FF7 characters, and a lot more from other FFs. While a popularity
contest NEEDS the strongest entrants, there are limits to how far to go

When characters like Magus, Ganondorf, Auron and Knuckles, Ryu Hayabusa
are on the edge of being snubbed, Diablo shouldn't have a spot on this
next contest. It's not like it's a powerhouse or something. First round
