The fact that Mario has been relegated to endless streams of remakes
aside from NSMB on the handhelds has pissed me off from day one. At
this point, I've almost given up on Nintendo handheld games (shocking,
but I prefer their console material far more). I think that's certainly valid, to be sort of angry at nintendo for whoring Mario like they do. But on the other hand, it's a great way to visit classics without having a functional super nintendo set up, portability, and the like. It's "cheap" by Nintendo in that it's unoriginal, but it's still a lot of fun to play old games on the gba. --- Revenge is a dish best served cold. ~ Old Klingon Proverb |

uhh.. 55-45, CT. woulda said the same before this match I think. you know, I can't help but think about SMW beating Sonic 2 worse than the entire Mario series is beating SSB/M. that's crazy. people love SSBM on this site. I'm scared to death of overestimating it right now though. --- xyzzy I lost a sig bet to War13104. Yes, the same guy who had Kefka over Crono. FOR THE HORDE! |

Take a wild guess as to what is far and away the most popular
Nintendo 64 game to play online via emulator is. I'll even give you
three tries. The instant a GameCube emulator is released with online play, the fanbase for the original SSB will sink faster than the freaking Titanic. That won't be for another few years, though, so stubborn elitists don't need to get sweat on their brow just yet. --- "Thank you, Mario. But our princess is in another castle." -Toad in Super Mario Bros. |

Metal Gear and Kingdom Hearts are two very popular series, believe it or not! --- "...And then they made me their chief." - Captain Jack Sparrow |
MasterOfHunters | Posted 7/27/2006 9:37:49 PM | message detail |
SMB is doing better than I thought. I figured SSB would snatch up 40% of the votes, and it'll come close. |
Karma Hunter | Posted 7/27/2006 9:38:56 PM | message detail |
Link to the Past beats Mario 3 with a measly 52%. If you would have taken SSBM over Mario 3 before this performance, what's stopping you from taking it over LttP? Unless you think LttP has boosted since then (even though Mario related things have seemingly benefitted more than anything else recently from the Ninty boost). And even then, there's still Chrono Trigger, which is probably constant or perhaps even a little weaker. --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. Just think about Brawl, transience. You're essentially taking an bulked
up SSBM and adding ONLINE PLAY and unquestionably the GREATEST CAST OF
CHARACTERS IN GAMING HISTORY. Gives me shivers. --- Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your WOOOOOOOOORLD!!! |

The instant a GameCube emulator is released with online play, the
fanbase for the original SSB will sink faster than the freaking Titanic. As much as you'd like to downplay Super Smash Brothers's popularity, this doesn't do it. --- "...And then they made me their chief." - Captain Jack Sparrow |

The instant a GameCube emulator is released with online play, the
fanbase for the original SSB will sink faster than the freaking Titanic. SSBB will do that first =p ~*ST*~ --- Winner of the Spring 2004 "Best. Game. Ever." Contest Now Playing: Resident Evil 4, KH:COM (Sora), Larussa 92 (NYY) |

I don't think SSB's fanbase completely drops once there's emulation
online for GC. what reason is there to not vote SSB just because it's
not SSBM, but you netplayed it? --- “Back in my day we used to actually play our videogames instead of watching them.” - Vivi0198 |
BeTheMan | Posted 7/27/2006 9:40:07 PM | message detail |
I'd actually give Melee a slight nod over CT at this point...say, 50.5
- 49.5. I'm still a little shellshocked about this match, though, so
that's probably swaying me a bit. --- ALL YOUR VOTES ARE BELONG TO...Pac-Man? |

If you would have taken SSBM over Mario 3 before this performance, what's stopping you from taking it over LttP? To me, unless some game/series/character proves otherwise, Zelda is the god of all things Nintendo. I'll take Ocarina and LttP over anything else. --- Watch and you'll see... someday I'll be... part of your WOOOOOOOOORLD!!! |

You know, I'd love to see another Games Contest with Chrono Trigger and
SSBM in the same division. This board would eat that upset up. --- "...And then they made me their chief." - Captain Jack Sparrow |
Phediuk | Posted 7/27/2006 9:41:54 PM | message detail |
I'm kinda apprehensive about Brawl, personally. While SSBM was about
ten leapfrogs ahead of SSB, SSBB just seems like SSBM Ver. 1.1 with
online play. The removal of certain characters and "adjusted game
speed" don't help my concerns. The truncated development time also has me worried. The SSBB team was only fully assembled in December of last year. So, by the time it's released, it'll have been worked on for less than 2 years... :/ Less time than SSBM, and SSBB is expected to up the ante with more content and everything. --- "Thank you, Mario. But our princess is in another castle." -Toad in Super Mario Bros. |

GREATEST CAST OF CHARACTERS IN GAMING HISTORY. Marvel vs Capcom. But you have a valid point. That one game (brawl) can change everything for all the characters involved. I just hope Mega Man gets some deserved boost from that game. |

Ocarina and LttP over anything else. I always wondered how Majoras Mask would do against LTTP. Forget about that Zelda poll. More OOT's votes would goto Majoras Mask than LTTP me thinks. |

I really don't see why people are discouraged by what Crono did against
Mega Man. That was almost exactly what the 2004 stats predicted. --- "...And then they made me their chief." - Captain Jack Sparrow |

People complain about Twilight Princess' delays, but Ocarina of Time
was pushed back from February of 1997 all the way to November of 1998. Nintendo isn't good with release dates. --- "Thank you, Mario. But our princess is in another castle." -Toad in Super Mario Bros. |

allow that. --- i thought people on gamefaqs had good taste in games i guess i was wrong -EstUmbra Oooh... Yeah... I need... condom... sixty nine!! -IENJOYHAM |

I am completely anxious about SSBB. I could see it turning out
absolutely mediocre, and that would ruin a lot of what Nintendo has
managed to hype about the Wii. Continuing to play SSBM with SSBB out
would be disappointing in itself. -=- You. WILL. Eat. Healthy. Food! *Nails you with an assortment of vitamin-rich vegetables* |

I am a proponent of Crono dropping a smidge in 2k5 (though only a
smidge). Which makes my confidence in him taking Samus even lower. It's all up to you, Mega Man! YOU'RE OUR ONLY HOPE! --- Do not kill. Do not rape. Do not steal. These are principles which every man of every faith can embrace. These are codes of behavior. |

Nintendo aren't Blizzard, either. No, but close. TP was supposed to come out summer 2005. I've never seen a Nintendo 1st party game not delayed, except maybe Pikmin. |
LeonhartForever | Posted 7/27/2006 9:49:59 PM | message detail |
Even if CT maintained its strength, wouldn't the boost Nintendo received last year help LttP? I personally believe the Nintendo "boost" was partially in effect in 2004 as well. FFVII beat OoT with ease and Link still went berserk in the Character Contest. I'd take Chrono Trigger primarily because I know I'd be in the minority, but I still believe it can win. --- Squall, Tidus, The Prince of Persia, Nightmare, Sub-Zero, Captain Falcon, Raiden Presea, Chun-Li, Tifa, Celes, Quistis, Amy Rose, Mei Ling |
