The brackets usually stay open for a month right? So I don't know about Sept. 1.

I think nominations will run the rest of this week and the next, with the bracket up sometime the following weekend. (Saturday August 5th).

I'm just hoping for a short bracket-making period (2 weeks), though with the number of brackets we got this Contest, I wouldn't be surprised if they lasted for a month again.

The bracket last year was about two to three weeks. But if he puts up the bracket on August 1st, which he should because it would be stupid to let it go on any longer, then September 1st is the latest.

Actually on thinking about it, Ceej probably has noms up so early because he is targeting September 1.

Doesn't mean he'll make it, but it does seem he's planning for it.

hmm.. a thought:

if this starts September 1, you're looking at FF12 being released during the last week of a 64-entry bracket. that could be interesting if a voter shift happens at the end of the contest.

that would only happen if they're put in the same bracket. I'd expect something like a female half and a male half.

i'm actually thinking that we will see a 32 entrant female half and a 32 entrant male half. follwing that, the top 2 males and the top 2 females will be put into an 8-entrant Tournament of Champions with Link, Cloud, Seph, and Mario.

that's a possibility i see happening with this contest.

In a fit of dumbassery, I nominated Marina Liteyears under the male category instead of the female category, now I only have one spot left and instead of nominating Nightmare, I'm nominating the guru winners pick if it should be a male. Sorry to the rally, but I feel like the guru contest holds more obligation, and without me the nomination rally topic likely would have purged at least once.

The more I think about it the more I realize how bad this is going to get.

I realized that even generic video game baddies would probably be stronger as a whole than females. Generic Shinra Soldier would probably crush Kerrigan, and I'd take Koopa Troopa over Terra. And we're probably talking above-average females here! Hell, I might even be tempted to take a Goomba over KOS-MOS.

I just realized how few new contenders there are for the summer contest this year. KHII and Oblivion are the only really big games that have come out since the last contest (though MKDS and NSMB were pretty significant, too.) People sure don't play Oblivion for the characters, and no one remarkable was introduced in KHII.

It's like the exact opposite of last year, where EVERYTHING came out the previous holiday season.

Ceej is going to have to have something massive up his sleeve to make me a believer. Females...aren't...popular...here. Sad, but true.

Heck, I'm willing to bet Samus wouldn't have the popularity she has if it weren't for that full body suit.

I was going to say that this new contest has a good chance of erasing the progress in vote totals we've made in the series contest. People have a hard enough time caring about characters, let alone many of the brain dead female counterparts they are paired with.

That's not what I meant. I mean if she had *never* had a suit to begin with. Granted, that ruins much of the 'twist' of the first game, but a lot of people here seem to have a hard time identifying with females in the first place.

Right. If Samus had never had a suit to begin with, but still starred in a high quality Nintendo crowd, she'd be a top character. Like how Tifa uses FFVII to be one of the Top 20.

FFVII is a completely different beast than Metroid. Virtually anything from FFVII can have legtimate and often stunning strength. Metroid has shown us that's not the case with Ridley and Mother Brain.

FACT: Gordon Freeman makes the tournament. It might be close, but he usually gets the noms for respectable seeding, and the board should rally behind him a bit more than usual just so that tradition ensues.

FACT: CATS makes the tournament. I've got a feeling that CATS has been bumped down in seeding for every non-Villains Contest appearance.

FACT: A big name character misses the bracket due to restraints. Has to happen, I couldn't see it not happening.

FACT: Jay Solano makes the tournament and accomplishes his mission. Hopefully.

FACT OR FICTION: Gordon Freeman makes the tournament.

Fiction. Not seeing any support for him any more. The bracket looks to be more restrictive, this time. Probably spells doom for him.

FACT OR FICTION: CATS makes the tournament.

Fact. Can't keep those crazy Cats supporters down. No matter how much I want to. <_<.

FACT OR FICTION: A big name character misses the bracket due to restraints.

Fact. Seems to happen pretty often. No noble-nine level characters, of course, but still.

FACT OR FICTION: Jay Solano makes the tournament and accomplishes his mission

Fiction. He gets enough noms to do it, but CJayC keeps him out anyway.

It's definitely true that Samus would be significantly weaker if she never had the cool suit.

Why is everyone thinking that the bracket will be tag-team? Don't you realize (or think Ceej realizes) the ridiculous amount of female fodder that would be required to fill such a bracket? It's not happening.

Why would this require any more fodder? Unless you think there won't be 32 females in other variations, which I doubt. Equal nominations is a very strong indicator of equal representatives.

Super Computer vs Hades

Sage of Board 8's Pick: The Tank! (Got land mines?)
Fanbabies Pick: KH in an upset...dream on kiddies!

The interview is postponed for a day or two...so that I can regale you all with The Sage of Board 8's Nominations! As everyone knows, the Sage has played games for over 20 yrs and his picks are reflective of the characters that have made the most impact on his life over the years, or are just plain hilarious and deserve a shot just cause of that...

Beginning with the fairer sex...

Kitana: Mortal Kombat Series No surprise here to those who know me beyond this site and on Xbox Live, etc. The Princess of the Fans has always been my favorite fighting game character, and in all truth as my interview with Sushi will detail in the next few days, my mastery of this character has won me cash, accolades, and respect over the years. And all who love MK will get another chance to face me in MK Armageddon in a few short months, where Kitana and all the rest are fully playable online. I am more excited for this game right now than even FFXII...

Aeris: FFVII I have nom'd her and Kitana every year, and with good reason...Aeris, the first true tragic heroine of video gaming, touched the hearts of every gamer who ever loaded up the first disc of FFVII and played it through til its sorrowful conclusion. I cried, my wife cried, and so many others I know did too. The boss fight with Jenova Life remains the most poignant and most stirring boss fight in any game I ever played...the piano music...the emotion...all of it is so perfect. This moment alone cements FFVII, even for an MK fanboy like me, as the greatest game of all time.

Rydia: FFIV Before there was ever the tragedy of Ms Gainsborough, or even the inner light of Ms Chere, there was one girl, an orphaned summoner, who gave us the first truly touching (and shocking storylinewise) FF moment, when she saved Cecil & friends from Golbez in another great FF moment. My wife and I's first child we will be having soon will be named Rydia, in honor of this character, the child who became a woman, and looked good in green hair to boot!

Celes: FFVI The game of my screen name sake must be represented, right? No doubt it shall be! Celes is the first truly torn Squaresoft heroine. Torn by love, by doubt, by fear...she outshines Terra and all the rest with her dialogue and dramatic scenes, including the unrivaled Opera moment. She gave us the first truly sad FF moment too, with the jump off the cliff after Cid dies from too much bad mackerel!

Sueng Mina: Soul Caliber I cant always play MK when I feel like kicking ass, lol, so I play Soul Caliber, and when I play that I choose Ms Mina more than anyone. She is just a cool fun character to play, and I have played the games with her since Soul Edge Arcade. Artistically she is drawn quite well, and her weapon is just cool. I like her, plain and simple.

Princess Toadstool: Mario We all grew up with Mario games, and so I represent the old school era with her, even though she happens to kick butt in the Kart series and SSBM. However, for me, it is choosing her in Mario 2 and flying through all the levels, bopping TryClyde and Clawgrip and lovable Birdo, and tossing bombs all over. :) Good times.

Chun Li: SFAnother of my fav characters in another of my fav series. She will only be my 7th choice if the Guru winner selects a male for their pick, which I shall also pick, as it is the right thing to do!

GO KITANA!
