"But their big 4 franchizes right now are Zelda, Mario, SSB, and Metroid." Mario Kart is a better seller than Metroid by a lot, and it runs even with Brawl. But you also have to consider the second tiers are sometimes set for bonafide hits themselves. Kirby has never pulled in huge numbers (only 1 million seller), but he's still big enough if they put the right team behind him. Star Fox actually did pull in some big ones once upon a time. Donkey Kong has from time to time been an 800lb gorilla (pardon the pun, if you may). Plus, used to be a time when 3 games from a single series in the same generation wasn't all that strange for Mario, not to mention Zelda should get a release on the Wii that's actually meant for the Wii from the start. Check Nintendo's launch/near launch list. Galaxy is nowhere to be
found. The creator of SSBB has gone on record saying the game needs a
lot of work, I wouldn't bet on SSBB coming out anytime sooner than
October 2007, but March/April 2008 is my guess. They still have no idea
what to do with the online multiplayer feature. It took, what, two years to make SSBM from start to finish? The Wii's a lot more similar to the GCN than the GCN was to the N64, so the transition should be even easier. Nobody's aloud to say much about online for the Wii at this point, since Nintendo hasn't revealed much about how to play games online yet. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

No, I just thought really, really highly of
Ganondorf...which is why me giving him no credit now is such a radical
change for me. I would have taken Ganondorf over so much in 2k3
and 2k4, I always thought Magus cheated to even crack 40% on him, and I
always lamented the fact that Ganondorf had to get stuck with Link so
early in these things. The Villains Contest, while not *quite* the

I want to see a 2D metroid made for a powerful system like the Wii.
Imagine how huge of a world they could fit on a Wii game in 2

Metroid is no where near Nintendo top 5 list of franchises for sales. Mario Zelda Pokemon Animal Crossing Mario Kart SSB Mario Party(Yes this is sick but these games sell like crazy) are all definitely higher than it. Plus I think the 2 pikmin games outsold the 2 MP games. Heck I think even the two Starfox games outsold the 2 MPs. (MPs don't sell at all in Japan) Then you got all these new DS non-games like Brain -Age. Metroid might not even be top ten. Metroid is unique though in the fact that its the only franchise casual gamers view as "mature". |

Just because Nintendo hasn't done much with him since Rare left doesn't mean they won't. they didn't have a Metroid for the N64 generation but they didn't give up on the series altogether. They probably just wanted to let the Bristish smell air out for a few years before making a new console game of their own with him. Even if he doesn't I'll take him over Snake and anyone outside of the
Noble Nine. And on the opposite side of the spectrum, Ganondorf only has a shot at Snake if he gets TP...and he will never, ever, ever have a shot at Mega Man or Sonic. Not now. Not. Ever. And after 2k7 his window closes on Snake. I'd take Bowser over pre-TP Ganondorf, take Zelda over post-TP Ganondorf, and get a weird measure of satisfaction out of staring at the Link/Ganon result. I don't doubt that; they did make King of Swing or whatever, but I
haven't bothered to check it out. It's just that I doubt anybody will

Considering it was likely fuled by Samus' appearance in SSB and now people know what to expect, I don't personally believe another 3D Metroid will break a million. Super Metroid's sales were pretty poor. They seem content with very DS-like, or probably console adaptation of DS-like interface. They keep stressing simplicity, no record keeping, ya know things like that. I don't have a big problem with that, just get rid of friends codes please! |

Not Mario Party, not anymore. It's been on a steady decline for a long time now and the only one in the current gen to break a million is 4. They are both tier two with the likes of Star Fox and Kirby. And to be honest, I'm tempted to put AC there too but the Japanese really do love it (though WW sold far less than half of the original here in the US) enough that on a worldwide scale it could be counted as bringing up the rear of the Tier 1s (Mario, Pokemon, Zelda, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros) --- R.I.P. yoblazer33, murdered in cold blood by Sir Chris. Super Metroid is actually one of the worst sellers in the series. Prime
is number 1 and the original is number two, they are seperated by ~40k

I do wonder if MP2 got hit with DMC3/MGS3 syndrome (a sequel getting
poorer sales than a previous game due to the faults of the previous
game), but it had a lot more working against it. Less hype, less good

Well, DMC games don't have stellar sales, but Dante is plenty strong --
and would likely be up on that tier did he have Samus' history in SSB.
You may laugh, but if Dante is in SSB from the beginning I seriously

Chrono's the type of anomaly that you see with such small sample sizes.
If you look at the rest of the noble 9, you'll see that the games
generally aren't just popular here, but are pretty much either huge
franchises (Mario, Zelda, Metal Gear, Sonic) or a legendary game
(Cloud, Seph). I guess you could throw Crono/Chrono Trigger into the
"legendary game" category, but (and correct me if I'm wrong) GameFAQs
