Well, certainly Super Smash Brothers isn't the only reason Samus is
Noble Nine, but she'd probably be closer to the bottom of the group
than the top without it. Well, clearly. But then, Link would never have beaten Cloud without it, and Mario would never have beaten Crono without it. It hardly applies to Samus alone. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

I really doubt that Link wouldn't kill that poll eight ways from
Sunday. People like to use their favorites in SSB...because, as you
said, most people don't care about tiers and the like. For whatever reason this gives me the image of every SSB player on the planet spamming the spin attack forever and ever and ever. --- i thought people on gamefaqs had good taste in games i guess i was wrong -EstUmbra |

I don't agree with that. Link and Mario have much more of a legacy outside of SSB than Samus does. --- i thought people on gamefaqs had good taste in games i guess i was wrong -EstUmbra |

Summer holidays 2007? I thought it would be early-summer 2007. Winter Holidays 2007 is more likely. SMG will be out in early 2007, and I can't see Nintendo releasing the two games so close together. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

than the top without it. Yeah, this is what I agree with. Samus gets the majority of her strength from Metroid, of course, but the amount that she gets from SSB is certainly not negligible and would probably be the difference between beating, say, Sonic or Snake and losing to them. --- Don't quote me. - Blulum øütßá©k |

| Nintendo just don't shoot their load like that. They are already promising Zelda AND Metroid just for the launch. Mario Galaxy likely around summer 2007. SSBB is their 2008 big hit, they don't have anything else. |

My point is, I think Link and Mario would barely be weaker, if at all,
if not for SSB. Samus, on the other hand, has much more to lose because

Well, I think the difference between Link and Mario being in SSB and
Samus being in SSB is big. After all, Super Smash Brothers was Samus's
ONLY appearance in the N64 generation and likely the first introduction

Mario and Link don't exactly have anything to fear even if Sonic and Mega Man get into SSB. Samus does. Well, I know I'm in a minority with this opinion, but I think that SSB was a big game in its own right, and adds substantially to the popularity of the series...enough so that Sonic would've beaten SSBM on its own. Mega Man and Sonic being in one SSB game doesn't give them a big advantage over Samus's three. --- Pity for the guilty is treason to the innocent. |

I find the board's reaction really interesting - instead of whining,
it's "oh poor Metroid". it's like even the huge Metroid fans like Zelda
a lot. as for the Big Three, I still think trying to extrapolate their strength against what is essentially fodder is next to useless. FF would triple Metroid and would probably quad Metal Gear. god knows what it'd do to Kingdom Hearts. trying to extract some meaning from these huge SFF blowouts and triplings is really dangerous. I've felt for a long time that Zelda/FF is a very close match and nothing's changed my mind yet. (though Diablo getting demolished did shake my confidence for a couple of days until Zelda went and did the same thing to MMX) --- xyzzy I lost a sig bet to War13104. Imagine Crono gets into SSBB. I mean, Nintendo have already said they wanted characters that started on Nintendo systems. (So no Cloud or Seph) Crono is probably the most recognizably Square-Nintendo character. Plus Square could use this as momentum for a new Chrono game. |

| Yea they could have an ace up their sleeves. But their big 4 franchizes right now are Zelda, Mario, SSB, and Metroid. No way they blow all 4 of them within 6 months and have a huge gap until their next big hit. |

I have a feeling Samus actually got a bigger boost from SSB than ANY other character simply because her move-set is a SSB-newb's dream come true. She ended up being my favorite character to use in the original and gained a lot of stock with me personally from that appearance. I believe it's the case with a lot of others, and I have a feeling that while there is no main character for that game most people would, at least for the first instalment of the series, associate it with Samus more than anyone else. --- R.I.P. yoblazer33, murdered in cold blood by Sir Chris. Well, with Square re-releasing FFIII-FFVI on Nintendo handhelds, the
possibility of a Chrono Trigger port to the GBA or DS might not be a

| Check Nintendo's launch/near launch list. Galaxy is nowhere to be found. The creator of SSBB has gone on record saying the game needs a lot of work, I wouldn't bet on SSBB coming out anytime sooner than October 2007, but March/April 2008 is my guess. They still have no idea what to do with the online multiplayer feature. |

Square knew there was a huge market for that sort of thing on GBA.
IIRC, the whole reason they made Crystal Chronicles (which was decent

And let's not forget that this is a SFF match, and that applies to
whining as well. That's one of the reasons I don't think Metroid SFFed
Kirby -- there was too much whining. I don't think Metroid can SFF *anything* at this point. Whatever SFF Samus got on Ganondorf was in my book garnered from SSB favoritism. --- Do not kill. At the 1:10 mark, this match has 15365 votes. To compare with other matches at the same time: GTA/Warcraft - 13973 Zelda/MMX - 14538 Castlevania/Kingdom Hearts - 14774 Final Fantasy/Mega Man - 15747 Oh, and for the record, SMB had 10546 votes against Madden at this time.
